How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I started out with an MSD boy. (Tender TOO) I did a split and I wanted to get both Too and Bee-A. And I did. So I had two MSD's that were male and female. I didn't want to get an SD because I thought they would be too big... THEN I decided to make a character doll, but I wanted to try out a big one. So I eventually got an SD head for Chrno (vamp elf yder). He didn't get his body until after I got my SD13 girl Rosette.

So now I have two boys and two girls of each size! I've been wanting a tiny, but we'll see.

I love them for each of their sizes. ^o^ Sometimes I like holding my little ones, then other times, carrying around my big ones! =3

I've come to love all sizes!

    2. Whether the doll can fit 18mm glass eyes or not.
or if there is a really really pretty dress that I would like to buy,
then yeah, buy the doll so you have a dress hanger...
      - that happened with my PF Peter that I bought because there was
a really really adorable PF dress made by Dollboutique, and now
the nightmare is back again with USD dress... I bought the dress,
      but not the doll. hmmm-

But at the end of the day, what you want is a doll that is managable.
Do you have enough wigs/clothes/etc of that size to play with?
If not, how much are you willing to spend for all this expenditure?

    3. I just fell in love with my Imogene and then she just happened to be a nice size (44cm). I'm not a fan of the bigger dolls. After I bought her I found myself liking smaller PukiPuki dolls a bit more than the teen-types. Plus, my boyfriend adores the Tiny Dolls so I'm getting him one for his birthday. That way we're both happy ;D

    4. 60cm and up for me - the bigger the better!

I'm not very patient at making tiny tiny little stitches and stuff, so it's easier to sew for my big boys than it is to sew for my grandma's DoC. I also love the weight and feel of them, they're just so solid. <3 Oddly enough, anything smaller is just too lightweight for me.
I also like the more mature sculpts, so that influenced my decision in the beginning. (Actually, I had only seen SD-sized dolls in person at that point too)

60cm is probably the lowest I will ever go size-wise, I adore my Hound and have plans for other 70cm boys. (And would *love* a Mecha Angel o.o)
There are two MSD sized boys that I adore, though... CH Mars and Jupiter. They're just *so* cute, I just can't see myself owning a doll that size, so I will probably just continue to admire smaller dolls in photos.

    5. I decided size on.....price! students in school dont get much money ya know! :)

    6. I went for a mini because it seemed like a comfortable size to hold and take to a meet-up without worrying too much about her on the way.

    7. Your Grandma's*_* Thats awesome you and your grandma both have bjd's!

      And to answer the question...
I started with msd size and thought they were great. Then I got my soom godo (sd13 size) and he was great. Then I got my rosen lied Beige, and (you guessed it!) she is great! I am getting a Puki on thursday too so we are not at all sizest in our family!
I do have more of the bigger ones though. I think because they are easier to sew for, and they are so unique, there are no other dolls that compare in size.

    8. 1 word. Ears. Quinn had those cute elf ears and I fell in love. I think I will stick with SD size dolls but I do want 1 MSD size. its not really a big deal about size so much as long as they have the ears.

    9. I liked the doll at first and then worked out the size. At first I was a bit put off. But then I was watching youtube and this girl had a big one and It looked nicer sitting on her lap and more huggable. I decided then maybe I figured bigger was better.

Still haven't seen him IRL but I am sure when I do I will be more then a little taken back by his size. But he is so sweet looking I will love him anyway.

    10. I had only seen SD dolls before, and to me the huge size was one of the draws! So much easier to sew for, and so cool to carry around (cat sized XD), but I'd also like to get a few MSD's as well, and I want a 70cm doll next. I don't think I'll ever get tinies though, and the MSD's I like are the less mature looking ones (at least, less mature faces)

    11. The only reason I got an MSD sized doll first was because I was to impatient to try saving for a SD sized one xD

But I'm pretty comfortable with all sized dolls. :3 I love my MSD, and I love my Tinies, but I'm ready for someone bigger <3

    12. I fell in love with a face and i have to have it no matter what size it is :|
      and that bring us to:
true, i had my SD girl (after failing in love with her face) and i said to my self as i went in shopping frenzy for her wigs/shoes/eyes that i will only have this doll... month went by and i start liking other faces :sweat, so i was thinking (OK only girls SD) but i fall in love with Luts Yedr :oits a boy so i went in shopping frenzy for boys wigs/shoes and clothes ... then moths passed, i fall in love with yet another face, a MSD size  and currently in shopping frenzy for her :dohit will go on i know, and i am willing to spend money in different sizes and there different maintenance, especially that i keep them wearing same outfit for months, and they do look cute when i play with them together or all posing side by side.

    13. Well, I've tried (and still own) dolls in all the major size ranges. I have four minis, one "large" tiny, two "small" tinies, one Dollshe boy (who really are a bit bigger than the standard 60 cm dolls, and I feel in a different scale as well), a whole slew of 60cms. I enjoy all of them, but I've definitely noticed that I prefer the 60cm/SD scale dolls. I occasionally see molds that I like in the other size ranges, but I've pretty much decided that I'll be sticking to around 60cm for all my future doll purchases. The only exception is that I'll probably end up with one more "large" tiny (another YoSD, for anyone who wonders what I mean there - I consider YoSD/Petite Ai and the like on the large end of the tiny spectrum, and things like Pocket Fairy/ReiTenshi on the small end) someday, because I really do enjoy the one I have, and would love to get another. But aside from that, I've found I'm most comfortable with/interested in/stimulated by the 60cm dolls. I like handling them better.

    14. When one face likes to me... I buy the BJD... ^^U Although how my first BJD was a SD, i try to buy other bjd's with the same size.

    15. Another one here who fell in love with the doll at first sight, with no consideration at all for size at the time. Now that I have him, though, it's good (or perhaps very, very bad :doh) that he's in the 60cm range -- the most accessible size range for boys' clothes. :sweat

He's also just the right size to sit in the crook of my arm. :)

    16. how i decide on my doll size is that i perfer bigger doll...one is that i can carry and hug them esier. and i would want consitance of my doll in size like a couple cm apart but not a whole lot.

    17. I just fell in Love with My Puki Pipi and then My mom convinced me to get another one and Now I've fallen for Elfdoll Hana Devil and want another Puki. Tiny seems to suit me, but I do really want an SD sized as well. The little ones also seem a lot more attainable, so maybe thats why I'm drawn to them

    18. I used to collect 1/6 scale Dollfies, but I got too frustrated with the size because I don't have the dexterity to paint anything that small and I don't like the way most clothing that small drapes (or doesn't). Thus, when I commited to buying a BJD I picked the biggest size available. :) Now my two 60cm guys seem kind of shrimpy in our collection that includes most types of the 65-80cm dolls. :sweat

I do have one MSD, but I only allowed him because he was a fullset styled by my favorite Volks artist and I have no intention of repainting him.

    19. My choice is the MSD sized with immature looking. I like their looking that around early teenage. I prefer a little doll more than a large one, but tiny-sized doll look too young for my taste, so a MSD is the best choice. I think taking care of MSD sized suit me best. The price also a reason, larger doll costs more.

    20. MSD's just seemed to "click" for me. SD's, while highly detailed and gorgeous, are too big and heavy for my tiny apartment, and tinies are a bit too "cutesy" for my tastes. I wanted the mobility of a smaller BJD but with a maturity comparable to SD's... so I ended up setting my sights on MiniFee's. :)
