How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. The Pern books~ <3 I need to stop being busy and read more of them. xD

oops, this is a useless comment too... erm, sorry?

But to be more on the subject I'll say I'm glad I have SDs for reasons kuraiangels brought up. I've been getting into sewing recently and SDs are already small enough [with human things being an inch off or so is no big deal, but with BJDs it might be the difference between a nice fitting outfit and a ruined, unwearable outfit] and I'm practicing sewing more before I attempt to make anything for my MSDs, since sewing such small things seem like a pain that I don't want to deal with before get more used to sewing.

    2. OH, that's an excellent point. Sometimes sewing for SD is hard enough!! I can't imagine myself having the patience to sew MSD clothes. XD I mean, I get sick of sewing on two tiny snaps at the back of every halter dress I make, so clearly I don't have the most sewing patience, anyway, but still. XD

    3. Aw, sewing for the wee ones is fun... I've been scaling down human patterns to SD and MSD size, and SD patterns down for tinies (made one of the FlimFlam shirts for an Orient Doll). I guess I just get bored too easily to keep working at the same size.

    4. Don't worry, I'm the same way. I tend to see human outfits I like or draw my own outfits and try to figure out how to make a pattern for them and make them [I've made nothing yet, I'm such a newb that I'm sticking to ready made patterns at the moment.] so I don't even want to think about making anything complex for such a small size and figuring out how to make the pattern. @_@ I'm pretty patient but working hard on something only to realize you've gotten one little measurement off and ruined the whole outfit is no fun. I'll stick to practice and cosplay [or should I say practice for cosplay] for now, thanks. xD

thothep - I've only just started playing with sewing for dolls but maybe one day I'll see the fun in sewing so small. But right now as a beginner to sewing... yeah, maybe one day. xD;; [Maybe it's just because I'm not really all that goos at sewing in general yet...? I've gotten the basics down but I still have a lot to learn.]

    5. When I first decided I wanted a doll I thought a lot about size. I decided that MSDs would be best for me. I have a pretty big apartment now but I will have to move at some point - I'm having problems getting up and down the stairs - and then I plan on a much cmaller appartment. Also by now I have 4 MSDs and two tinies - DZ Feilian, Lati Blue Censya on an older Lati body twin Bobobie Sprites on mature bodies, Soom Mini Gem Uyoo elf ( kasandora I can really recomend them. They are 30cm and fit Barbie clothes and they have an awsome body. She's one of my best posers) and a Sleeping Elf Tiny Moona.

It would be kind of hard for me to find room for a DS or two since they all hang out with me in my livingroom all day - mostly on my coffee table.

I don't have a problem with them being different sizes. They are just differet spieces or from different worlds. Besides so far my DZ girl is the only one without elf ears.

So for me not having a SD is good . . . . . . except that I have fallen in live with IpleHouse Lt Cocori :aheartbea :aheartbea :aheartbea . . . . . but I'm not getting her. No really I'm not. [IMG]

I AM however going to get a Soul Kid Apple and a IpleHouse Tatiana before I won't be getting Cocori. :sneaky

    6. Personally, I want to start out with a smaller doll first (like a mnf) and then move on to the larger SD-sized dolls. I want to get comfortable with a smaller doll first before having to deal with a large one, and it would also give my family time to get used to the whole doll concept before I spring the "big one" on them. Plus, the one I'm thinking of getting would be a different "race" than any bigger ones that I get, so there won't be a problem with scale.

    7. I just like the larger size because they feel more "real" to me. More mass, surface area...it's just more realistic in a sense. Instead of carrying around a tiny, near-weightless tiny, I like the slightly larger than newborn, 5lb+ BJDs ^ ^

The bigger ones aren't quite as "fragile" looking as welll....and they generally come as more mature molds, which I tend to lean to ^ ^

    8. As long as I like the mold, the size doesn't matter to me at all. ^^ I have 4/5 (depending on how you see it) sizes going on here. ^^;

    9. That's a good way of looking at it, SakuraLee!

    10. Unfortunately, I didn't. Which has led to a mis-match in size, and dolls that really don't go together. I simply buy molds that appeal to me, and they have a habit of working together on the simple basis that I love them all.

    11. My incoming doll is SD sized, and i think that's because i was drawn to the idea of having such a big doll, if that made any sense :/

I didn't want something too small, like a barbie or whatever, and figured if I was going to buy a doll, why not go the whole way and buy a big one? xD

    12. I figured SD right off the bat would freak my parents out, so I opted for a smaller one. :) The MNFs just appealed to me more in general too.

    13. So far, I have purchased according to which mold appealed to me the most and according to what I wanted to do with the doll. I got an Elfdoll June,(she arrived today:)) partly becase sewing is easier for the SD size and also because I wanted to make jewelery for her and the larger size allows for more variety in that craft.
Eventually I will have more MSDs than SDs tho, because my space is limited. Not to mention that the Minifees Shushu, Miyu and Lishe have been calling to me.:3nodding:

    14. I fell in love with an MSD first (my Suntan Asha) and have never looked back. I loved how she felt when I held her, I loved the size of everything on her, and I loved her shoes. LOL.

I thought I might want an SD someday but the more I hold my friends' SD dolls, the more I think they're not for me. They're just a bit big and heavy for my liking. Darkawaii's SA Saint nearly takes my arm off every time I hold him! :) Not that I mind... not when it's him.

    15. My first doll was an MSD. I thought I would like that size best, easily portable but easier to shop for than a tiny. Then I saw a 70cm and I knew that had to be my next doll. After my 70cm boy arrived I knew I wanted SD's. I also bought a tiny and it turns out, I love tinies too, not the super tinies though those are really cute, but the 26cm range. My AF tiny looks perfect in the lap of my 70cm DZ boy. He just looks like he belongs there. I wound up finally selling my MSD because MSD's just didn't fit for me. I have another 26cm tiny on the way (this time a DZ BB) and several more SD's planned. Those are just the dolls that work for me. I like the size and presence of the bigger dolls, but I also enjoy the cuteness and portability of my tinies. Plus all of my dolls are characters in the same story line, so their sizes need to work together well.

    16. My first doll was SD13 size, at that time i thought i should keep my doll in same size..so they could share clothes and wigs..but unfortunately, now i have tiny size, SD13size and SD17size...totally they are run out of my oringial planning...T_T....

    17. I decided through trial and error. First I ordered a tiny from Korea. While waiting for it to come, I bought a less expensive vinyl bjd, MSD size. I wanted to try making clothes for this size. Then my tiny arrived. After that I purchased an 11 inch doll. Now that I have 3 sizes to compare, I have made a decision. The MSD is too big for me. My favorite size is the 11 inch doll. My second favorite is the tiny (6 1/2 inches). So now I want to sell the MSD. I know this was the hard way to learn my preference, but I had never seen these dolls IRL.

    18. I chose SD first because I wanted to get into sewing for them and SD seemed like the easier size to start with. Though that doesn't mean I don't want smaller ones. I have quite a variation of sizes in my plans lol *sounds evil*

    19. I decided I wanted larger than a pullip..... but not huge. So I got MSD size.

    20. I originally wanted an SD, but seeing them in person, I felt they were a little bit too big for me and my itty bitty apartment. So when I got back to looking for dolls again seriously, I started looking at MSDs, but I wanted a mature doll. Eventually I landed on minifees (especially after fairyland released the a-line) and was getting ready to purchase a lishe when they released the carl sculpt, which had so many of the facial features I had been looking for in one place. I ordered her the day they released the sculpt she pulled that hard.
I wouldn't mind getting a larger doll in the future, but they'd probably have to have something very unique to get me to spend more on a larger doll. For my next, I'd really love another minifee or a tiny puki.
