How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I honestly do not get people who will only collect one size of doll. I have one of every conceivable size, from Puki to 43cm, and will be getting a 1/3 for Christmas ::hopes:: They all look great together, and for photostorying, there are ways around size differences; I have seen photostories that mix doll scales and it detracts not a whit from the impact of the tale (although I will own that the people with the courage to do this are good storytellers, so that might be a factor).

The biggest bonus of dolls in a range of sizes? I order an outfit and it doesn't fit its intended recipient? It just goes to the next one bigger, or smaller :D

    2. BTSSB and cute harajuku volks molds = SD10 girls:D

    3. I never really think about the size of the doll, but I do find myself more attracted to the 60cm and up. I think it's because the larger dolls tend to have a more mature look, something that I am attracted to,

    4. Since my family can't afford it before, I have to rely on a friend who's SUPER DUPER KIND to get me my first doll. I thought a MSD is already enough to satisfy my craving for a super dollfie but no, it only helped me crave for more. I didn't know a SD size doll would be so cool too! XD Thanks to my friend who bought my first doll, I was able to convince my parents to get me a doll. Thanks Weslie!!! *hugs*

So yeah, I'm just gliding with my "want" flow... ^^

    5. Simple as that - big dolls are too expensive. :P So, MNF it will be. Also, I'll want my dolls to be the same size, since they're supposed to be characters from my story.

Then again, I think I might get one SD one day, just because they are soooo cool. :P I'd have to wait till I earn much more, though.

Also, I just don't like Puki-size dolls. I find them kinda creepy @___@

    6. When I had chosen my doll, the size was not the most important part to me. I fell in love with the mold and sure I was fascinated about his large size. But I still have moments when I think it would have been better if I had chosen a more popular size like SD13 because of the clothes and accessoires... I'll never get the stuff I like for my 80cm monster :doh but I'm sure I'll love him anyway.

    7. I look for pretty faces, not size. It doesn't really matter to me.

    8. Honestly, I actually prefer the bigger dolls, like around 80cm's, or even bigger (although I don't own any, I love big dolls). But my first doll was an SD size, and considering I fell in love with majority of the sculpts in the 60cm range. I guess I kind of just stuck with it, but that doesn't mean that I'm not interested in the other ranges of sizes available, I'll eventually get there one day.

    9. I chose MSD because it was readily available to me. It's similar to the size of doll that people are used to, like Barbies and whatnot, so it isn't as likely to freak people out. Also, they are more affordable. I do, however, plan on getting an SD for Christmas! :)

    10. *pokes head in and does the "Hi, I'm new" dance*

Yeah, I'll be honest...I went with MSD because it was what I could afford that I still liked the look of. I'm more drawn to the 60cm range because I do like the more mature look for dolls, but I'm getting a Dollzone MSD because I think that even their MSD sizes look more mature than some of the other dolls I've seen. I like their sculpts.

I might go for a larger size when I have the funds, but for now as a college student, this is in my budget and it still looks good (IMO).

    11. my first doll is going to be MSD sized, but every other doll i want is SD i think for me it's just how much i love the body and face shape. it's like how i think i'm only going to get male dolls because no female has caught my attention XD

    12. Space is a limiting factor. But thus far I have not found a large doll I like. I tend to like the juveniles so MSD is perfect size and look. Can't wait to order a Iplehouse Tania trapeze in the next few days.

    13. "whatever tickles my fancy", I should say :P It's more like the character the doll has than the size.

    14. I didn't. :| I've switched back and forth twice, sold more dolls than I can count. I thought I'd chosen mature minis, but the more I look at them, the more frustrated I become that I can't really portray the depth of the characters they are supposed to represent with those cute and slightly playful mini fee faces.
Choose slowly and very carefully is my advice.

    15. Actually, my first interest was an SD. But I convinced myself that 63 cm was way too tall and way too much money... So I went for the middle size, who looked a lot like the SD I really liked except with a happier facial expression.

I was really glad I did, too, because after ordering I attended a doll meet and figured out that the size and weight of SD's just... terrified me. Someone gave me one of the bigger dolls to carry and play with for a bit, and I just... sat him down and couldn't do anything more. They don't bother me as much anymore... which I guess is a good thing because all but one of the dolls on my wish list are 60 cm+. I just like the sculpts more.

But I like the MSD size too. It's big and heavy enough for you to feel the weight in your hands, but small and light enough to be portable and not take up too much room.

    16. At first I had an MSD and that made me realized I wanted SD's, lol!

    17. When I was looking for a doll to boy, at first I wanted an MSD sized doll because of the price. (how bad)
But then I realized that smaller dolls are harder to make clothes for. So then I decided to go for a 60 cm doll. And because most MSD dolls look younger. I prefer a more adult/adolescent look for my dolls.
And I am still happy with my SD sized dolls. I have one tiny (dollzone december event coney) and I don't really bond with it because it's too small for me.
And I think that larger dolls would also not fit me.

So 60cm for me, that's fur sure! :)

    18. I love the yo sized tinies best of all, i just find them easier to handle and pose, i am lucky as my daughter collects BJDs and has all sizes so i was able to have a play and determine what size suits me best.

I find the SD size way to difficult to manage and near impossible for me to get them standing with their long legs and they weigh a tonne lol! MSD size is not too bad, i can just about cope i think, i just ordered my first and probably only MSD as i just couldnt resist her cute face, but on the whole i will stick to yo sized

    19. My boy is an MSD and pretty much all of the ones I want are MSD. IDK SD just seems a bit too big 00

    20. I notice that people keep talking about portability on here...I'm getting ready to get my first dolly and while I'm currently tending towards a MNF (just because there's one face mold there I just adore), I also really like the 60cm size as well after seeing both sizes at a doll meet with a friend recently. My big deciding factor? Next fall I'll either be going to grad school overseas in Glasgow or doing the JET program, depending on whether or not I get the scholarship I need, and since I want to be able to take my doll with me, are the SD sized ones particularly tricky to transport on a loooooong journey like that?
