How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. Well, I ordered my doll with a friend, and it was basically her who decided that MSDs would be the best size to get. At the time, SDs seemed way too bulky for me. And right now, I still only have MSDs, but I really want an SD and a 70 cm as well ^^'

    2. I guess it's time for me to admit that I haven't decided on size yet. Or rather.. my dolls seem to be shrinking.

I started out with a 70 cm doll. Then I got a 58 cm. Then a 52 cm. Then a 14 cm. Then a 11 cm... and I've currently two other 11 cm's (Pukipuki) on the way as well as a 27 cm Bobobie. In the meantime I've sold the 52 cm again...

So I guess you can say I haven't quite decided on a specific size just yet. If you're counting, I'm apparently more into tinies than larger dolls although I still love and adore my big boy. it's just like with music... some days I prefer classical music, some days heavy metal (to name both ends of the spectrum which I DO listen to) - every size of doll has advantages and drawbacks. The 70 cm isn't exactly portable, while the pukis slip right into your pocket. On the other hand the larger dolls are easier to interact with in photoshoots. The smaller dolls tend to "drown" if you're taking them to some attraction. So it all depends on what you want with your dolls.. as a certain commercial stated it: "Where do you want to go today?" ;)

    3. Well,at first I was going to have Caesar actually be a 60cm chiwoo but then I thought of my money issues and how I'm buying a laptop. That and I adore the MNF chiwoo way more than the bigger one.
That and I adore MNFs for some reason x3 I think it's how childish and cute they look.
Most my dolls are their size because they're a certain age in my rps and so that's how I pick the size :3

    4. I don't really care about size..really.
Honestly I wasn't plan to have any SD size doll because I thought they are too big.
But when I saw Sakaki, my first SD, I forgot about size...= =

I don't thinki it really matters now...I have almost all sizes in my home.

    5. Well, I don't really care about the size.
      I decide which doll to get base on ...L O V E!!! ^^
But 1/3 is my favorite because I love adult dolls~

    6. Hi there. I'm brand new to the whole... 'world of BJDs' here, and I was just wondering.

How did you decide which size dolls you tend to want to buy? Or maybe, what size doll is your dream doll? I've been sort of straying towards the larger scale of things, I guess what's called SD or 1/3? Is that right? I really don't know too much about the whole thing, but anyways.

      One of the dolls I really want is Orientdoll Il. My friend told me he's a weird size and that I'll have to make my clothes for him. Which I don't have a problem with. Except for, y'know, having to learn how to sew. Which I will do. <.<;;

But anyways. When you were starting out, or if you are still starting out now, how did/are you get comfortable with different doll sizes? I see actual BJDs all of once a year at the local anime convention (Fanimeee~), but until this year I've never really thought all that much about them. So I've never asked the people who are carrying their cosplaying friends around what size their doll is, or the people who are selling hand-made clothes. I mean, would that be rude to ask?

    7. well I decided based on price, I new I wanted a pretty big one so I went with an MSD size and ive had him for a LONG time now and I love him and soon im getting another MSD size, there also easyer to carry around lol, but I plan in the future to have a SD size

but right now I have my Dollzone Fei, hes wonderful

    8. Hmmn. See, I'm also having a problem understanding size terms. Everywhere I go, I see both "SD" and "MSD" being used. At the same time I see things like "1/3" or "1/4" going on. What's the difference between them? I'm at a loss. >.O;

Also, I never thought about that. Carrying my doll around. o_o I guess I should start fitting that into my considerations while I fill up my piggy bank. :: nods ::

    9. you can say SD = 1/3 and MSD = 1/4 ;)

I decided to get an MSD and smaller ones because it's easier for me to carry them around and fit them in my shelves. note that sometimes, an MSD can be more expensive than an SD :o

    10. Thanks, siruveru, that helps a lot! So much makes much more sense now. x3

Anyways, would an SD be that difficult to carry around? I remember back at the local anime convention that people would carry around their dolls in hand baskets and whatnot. Would those probably have been MSDs then? Or possibly smaller?

    11. I didn't really opt for a particular size, I just waited until I found a doll that I wanted to bring home ^_^ She happened to be an SD-sized girl. That was all! :)

    12. I've had 1/6 Obitsu for years but my first BJD was an MSD and that happened because I just fell in love with the sculpt (cat ears no human ears).

She needed a companion so another MSD.

Her brother was an SD...and cat boys aren't a just lying around everywhere so that is how he came home. I am also waiting on a a pair of tinies of different sizes but they will probably be one offs because

...when my catboys SD companion arrived ~ I had an epiphany ~ I really like SDs a LOT.

So while I adore my MSDs, & won't give up the pair for anything, I have concluded SDs are the size for me.

    13. I said I'd never get a SD - but then I saw several "big guys" at a meet-up and realized how amazing they could be. I mostly like the super tiny guys - like Pukis - but a beautiful face gets me every time!

    14. I have still never choosen a size--they sort of just happen. I have tinies, minis and SD16sizes. But I won't go larger than the SD16 as I just don't have the room and do I want another size of clothing to have to buy.

    15. Well, I have a MSD size doll now and he is just not big enough for me to hold. He actually is very awkward for me to hold since he has a smaller figure. I was able to hold many SD sized dolls and I LOVE there size since I can hold them without worry that they'll fall. But, since I carry Aki around everywhere I go, even restuarants, he even gets heavy sometimes. :sweat So I know when I get Konrard, my arms are going to feel like putty. *_*

    16. Well, before I did a lot of research I thought I would get an SD sized doll. My sister ordered a DIM SD sized doll and when I seen it in person.... I was like "Whoa! This is way too big for me!"

For me, SD size is too awkward to handle and dress. I've decided to get an MSD size doll.

    17. Personally I am going for 60+ specifically because as an artist I have a feeling I will use the doll to help me draw. Sure I have a wooden artists mannequin, but anyone who has one of those knows they are not really helpful for anything but standing poses, and even then, not so much. I'd also really like to get the ball jointed hands for the same reason. I like multi-task items and I think the right BJD could be a great multi-tasker for me.

    18. I love the dolls, and I think the sizes is not very important.... I love to have them all.....haha

    19. I love MSDs. They're so easy to carry around and travel with. But I just got my first SD, a Soom sard/cp hybrid. He's a big boy...twice the size of my MNFs.

I think I mostly stick to MSDs because of their sculpts, though...not so muscly and creepy and...and huge. I cant do the huge thing. Easier to shop for, too. :3

    20. There are a few reasons that helped me in my decision to buy a 70cm doll; a nice big head to faceup myself, easier to make clothes for because of the larger size, something big enough that I wouldn't lose it somewhere in my room. I also wanted something much bigger than a barbie, and a 40cm MSD didn't seem big enough. Though I gotta say the biggest reason why I got my 70cm doll wasn't so much a logical reason - I just wanted him. I loved his face, I loved his lanky skinny body, I just wanted him lol.

Now that I have a big doll though, I want a tiny, just because the size difference between the two amuses me so much!
