How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. The appeal of BJDs to me is partly that they're beautiful mini people, so I have a preference for SDs. ...Well, the only BJD I've actually been able to handle is my friend's SD, but I've seen some MSDs at a con before...

I like some of the MSDs I've looked at, but they don't seem to look quite as mature as SDs do, and the doll I fell for is an SD, so... :sweat

    2. I just like things a bit bigger , 40 is a nice size but it lacks something to me. I'm not saying I won't ever get one (having a RS/BBB Mei on my wishlist, the character is also a 15 j. old ) but the DZ 73 body is just awesome, and its a great drawing reference too !

I'm finding 80 and 90 cm too big tho :s ,but thats personal taste ^^

    3. As a former Barbie wrangler and Pullip customizer, I decided a long time ago that anything that requires fumbling with sewing and face-ups and such because it's so small, is not for me. I have experience lugging around various large, heavy instruments (including a bass guitar in a hard case), so I'm not too worried about carrying and handling my dolls, despite my short stature.

Not to mention, I am IN LOVE with guys with lanky limbs. And I decided that most mini-sized girls (excluding Unoas, Narae and Minifees) look... not fully matured yet. Plus, I think it'd be ideal for my dollies to look proportionate to each other.

So 60cm and up is definitely for me. -nods-

    4. I have only one doll, MSD from Dollzone. Decision was really easy because MSD feeled right from the very beginning. I didn't like SD dolls back then but now I've decited to get atleast one. But I guess that MSD will always be my favorite size of all.

    5. I wanted something to sew for. I like a lot of fiddly little details, so big was the way to go. (The majority of my dolls are Soom MAs.) That I happened to fall in love with the style of the biggest sculpts available at the time, well, that was just an extra bonus.

Naturally, I haven't found a moment to actually sew for them yet, but... well, I will get to it!

    6. When I first got into this hobby, I bought the first doll that I fell in love(DS Hound) without considering size or scale. I bought another SD sized doll, and then I realized that they were just too big for me. It's harder to get them to pose, they take up more room, and they're not easy to transport. When I went to Dollectable last year, I fell in love with the YoSD sized dolls. They're so tiny and adorable, and I can carry them with me if I want to. On the other hand, dolls smaller than YoSD are just too small for me.

I think it's best to go to a meet-up of some kind first before you decide on a size.

    7. It is more the doll that chose me XD

At the begginning I thought more of getting a MSD, but then I stumbled on a Senior SD that i really liked and was just perfect...

So Now I adore SDs and I think of getting all my dolls in that size :)

And maybe some smaller ones... like.. chibi versions XD

But yeah... I do not think of buying a lot... for now I got 2 dolls in mind and they are both SD, it will depend on how I cope with getting my first one XD

    8. I'm not sure why, but the thought of a really big doll sorta freaks me out ^^; so I knew right from the start it was going to have to be MSD down. (Of course my first was a tiny!) The only thing that bums me out about that is I always fall in love with the molds on larger dolls :...( And like the others were saying, they don't always look mature enough.

    9. I don't specify my dolls size, I love them all~haha:lol:

I choose MSD size for my first doll 'coz I never see bjd (in person) before.
when i adjust to MSD size, i choose SD size for my 2nd.:)
I want to have Tiny size doll in future.

    10. well i have never seen a bjd in person

but at first i wanted SD or bigger (i saw alot of pictures of people holding SDs and bigger and i was floored by the size. (when i first started looking up bjds i searched deviant art and someone held a head about the size of a barbies head so i thought they where all the size of barbies) i wanted one so bad then i talked to a bjd owner on ebay and a bjd owner on deviant art and they both told me to come here. when i found out about the diff sizes i said "the bigger the better"

but now i have found 5 msd's i absolutly adore and i figure its best to get an msd for my first doll. i dont think it would be hard to get bigger than im used to but it would probably be hard to go down a size so i think getting a msd for my first doll will make it so i wont mind either size

    11. I have a MSD. I thought the MSD sizing was perfect since I like to go to conventions. :3

    12. to me, i just seemed to see more potential with the 1/3 size, plus i just liked what i saw which was the city friend gretel..... but if i would of saw a MSD i really liked i would have gotten her instead.

Im also thinking of getting a Puki in 2009 because that way i can carry her everywhere.... but i want to enjoy the boy and girl i have :)

    13. Both dolls that I chose are of the 1/4 MSD variety- 40cm and 44cm. I knew that I was not quite ready for a large doll, so it was primarily a choice between a Mini and a Tiny. I basically sat around for awhile thinking about playing and holding my dolls, and I did prefer the Mini size. After looking at various dolls, it just so happened that the two that most called out to me were around the Mini size, so that is what I went with.

    14. I personally love MSDs because they are affordable, and I love how they look. When I first was deciding what size I should get, I took a ruler and measured out SD sizes and MSD sizes. I found that SD was just too big for me, and that I prefered the MSD molds more.:) I might consider an SD in the future but i'm sticking to MSD right now.

    15. I decided size simply by what feels best in my arms. I discovered after plans of owning a family of smallish SDs that what really appeals to my sense of tactility is 70's. Trust me, its not the best thing to find out when you start to look at the price difference. *L* But I really do feel a sort of symmetry with 70's, and this makes me feel much more comfortable around them somehow. So I plan to collect a family of 65+ now, and hope to find some way to mod the girls I have planned to catch up to that height.

Of course that plan got blown, or at least augmented, when my mom got me Idris, who is about 59 cm. *L* But he is a sweet, petite sort of person anyway, so it suits him.

    16. This is my second post in this topic as things have changed. I love SD, second only to MSD nothing taller then 70 cm and nothing smaller then 42CM as I have found I just can't bond with tinies, as much as I love Pukis it just never lasts.

    17. I decided size by my pre-existing interests. I always loved tiny things, miniatures, dollhouses, all of that - and while it's no real surprise my first doll was actually an MSD for a few reasons, I suspect many of my future dolls will be more along the lines of Orientdoll So - Love those little ones; have since before I was even into fandom.

    18. All the ones that are calling to me are mature but mini size (minifee!) which is probably good both for my bank account and the amount of space I have in my teeny little house. I think the SD size ones (and their stuff) would overwhelm the space I have. It helps that the bigger ones I've seen that I totally have fallen for are mostly past limiteds, or on the rarer side. I wish there were a little more mature looking boy faces for the minifees, but I think that may be partly a matter of dressing and styling them to look more adult.

I do also want a Puki someday, though!

    19. Well, I decided right off the bat that if I was gonna spend a huge sum of money on dolls, they would be at least 60cm. I'm personally fond of the idea. Having a large doll around. I can sew clothes for it (Not easy, but I doubt a smaller one would be any easier). And... Well...

My friend sorta convinced me that bigger dolls were the only way to go. But honestly, I would've gone that way even if she hadn't said anything. Being a tall person has put in my mind 'bigger is better'. :'D

    20. Back when I first got into BJDs I honestly thought that they were all the same size, this was probably due to the fact that I never saw different dolls in the same picture, I don't know. So as you may be able to tell I didn't do any research when I bought my first doll, which happened to be a mini. I wised up after that and my second doll was a 60cm. I liked the weight of the larger doll but for some reason the mini appealed to me more so that's the size I stuck with and I haven't had a large doll since. :)
