How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. All of my BJDs are SD sized. I have one little Custom House girl and she's cute, but big dolls of any type have always been my favorites, so it's no surprise that when I bought my first BJD, it was Lishe, from Luts, followed by Elfdoll Ryung and Dollmore Ha Yarn Cho, very tall...They are heavy, but most can be posed so gracefully, and they are such fun to dress, like fashion models. Love many BJDs, but the big girls and boys are my first love.

    2. I.. well, i didn't. I bought Momo because of his mold, not because he was a large doll, but I'm going to size most of the rest of my dolls around him, heh.

    3. For me, it wan't really a decision. From the moment I started researching BJD's I was immediately drawn to the really big dolls. As others have said, they tend to have more mature features, have a bold presence and the size makes sewing, etc. easier (or so I've heard). Soon, I'll have my 72cm cutie home to know first-hand! :)

    4. I've wanted a 1/3 size ever since I first saw one at an anime convention. It just sealed the deal when I fell in love with B&G's Freya. :fangirl:

      EDIT:
And, for clarification, I'm not saying I only like SDs. I adore Pukis (I cannot resist something that disgustingly cute!) and I think MSDs are pretty awesome too. I go by sculpt. I just wanted an SD first. <3

    5. I couldn't decide between msd and tiny, but I waited untill I had seen some in real life. The msd looked to be a perfect size! Not too big, but not toooo small, and something easy too cary, but not easy to lose. :) That's what I'm saving for now ^__^

    6. My first is msd size, but now I decide to buy others all in SD size or larger than them(65-70cm). Because large doll make me feeling ease.. hehe strange enough.
the SD size girl can dress smth really luxurious, that should be the second reazon

    7. I decided on MSD-ish size because it seemed much more... Reasonable, for lack of better word. Some of the smallest SDs are nearly as big as my entire arm and I think that overwhelmed me (where MSDs are about the size of my forearm). And I don't think I'll ever get a doll quite that big either, since then I know I'll then be anal retentive about having accurate height differences between them and my other (future) dolls. :sweat

    8. I got a MSD cos I liked her mould, but I'm now considering getting a SD cos they are more huggable. =X And I fell in love with a bambicrony I saw last Saturday. She made me want a not-so-tiny! Argh! I guess I like all sizes.

    9. I wasn't going to a particular size. I fell in love with the sculpt of both the face and body, it just happens to be an SD. I also think some of the Pukis are adorable, so I wouldn't restrict myself to one size. I like what I like.

    10. Small things are cute. :3 /rationale

Haha, no, um, serious time now. I haven't actually gotten my first doll yet, but I have a tiny RS Bei on the way. At 27cm she's on the big side of tinies (since the range here is 35cm and below, right?), about the same size as a Barbie doll. Which probably has a lot to do with why I decided to get her for my first doll.

When I started to get interested in BJDs, I didn't realize there would be so much to choose from. The range goes from itty bitty Puki-sized to the size of toddler! I didn't want to buy anything that would feel ridiculously huge or ridiculously tiny, especially since I have never seen a BJD in person yet. Bei fits into Barbie clothes, and I used to be really big on Barbies when I was a kid, so I have a good idea of what size she'll be when she gets here - it shouldn't be a big shock for me. So tiny seemed like a pretty good 'start off' size for me. (Especially since Bei is gorgeous :D)

I also am pretty fond of how young most tiny dolls look, they are so cute. Even if I got into bigger dolls, I'd probably still try to find ones that look young. :3

    11. Most of my characters are are in their mid to late teens, so it kinda falls in the SD category for me. These characters have already been developed through my writing, and these dolls are their tangible forms (other than words on a page), so it's the face sculpt and build of the whole body that determines my choice.

Right now, I'm saving for my first MSD size doll for one of my younger characters. I hope this experience will be a lot better than when I had a Yo-SD for the same character, because Atsuko outgrew her shell too soon.

    12. I buy the dolls according to the characters I want to "dollify". Since two of my characters are adults, I went for the larger dolls. Another character is a teenager, so I went with Obitsu's 55cm boy. Should there be other characters, I'd choose the size accordingly.

    13. My first doll love was 70cm. I'm a big girl so the larger size never bugged me. The other sizes have been trial by fire. so far the only size that doesn't work for me (and I've tried owning one) is the 30-50cm range. With the rest of the family they're like kids...not a 'kids' person. Love babies though. So there you go.

    14. I really like the MSD sizes. A friend of mine brought down her SD and she was just too big for me. I already have a porcelain doll that is the size of a SD doll and I always thought she was scary but to me MSD's are just CUTE. I think if I found a doll that really appeals to me and is an SD I would get it but right now my heart belongs to the MSDs.

    15. I started out liking MSD however I am finding now that it's not the size that gets me it's their individual personalities.
If I see a doll that just makes me melt due to faceup, poseability, etc and it seems to speak to me a bit personality wise then I will get that particular doll.

I am currently in love with the Little Fee's that I keep seeing everywhere due to the pictures on the site as well as first hand getting to see one at a friends.

    16. Hmmm well it was mostly decided on what doll I liked first which was a DOI Luke at 70 cm. Next one was 70 cm too. Smallest atm is my Narin at 60cm. Smaller than that just doesn't work for me at all. I really like the heavy feel of them and seeing as I'm 6"2 myself it's really no problem dragging around a few big dolls for a while. And sadly I'm a bit messy/lax with my possesions so things smaller than that have a good chance of disppearing in the mess that is the room of an art student (I had a Bobobie tiny but I kept losing it cause I wasn't playing with it so I sold it.)

    17. I have a msd from AOD and I love her. AOD tends to have more mature faces, even for the smaller msd dolls. I liked msd siza a lot because I felt a little nervous and embarrased about buying a doll in the beginning and a smaller doll wouldnt be as "in your face" or attention grabbing in a room. Now that I am more comfortable with my new doll hobby and like how she grabs your attention, I still prefer the msd sized dolls. They just seem perfect to me, not too big, not too little I dont think they resemble a barbie in anyway.

My problem now is I want a boy to go with my girl and I have found that a lot of the msd sized boys have immature or boyish faces compared to my AOD doll. So far I haven't really found a msd sized boy I really like.

    18. I chose my dolls based on mold more than size, but I do prefer larger dolls to smaller ones- even though I fully intend to get a few tinies in the future. I think the larger ones are just a bit easier to deal with as far as maintenance goes since I'm not particularly good with small details and whatnot, and it's easier to sew clothes for larger figures.

    19. So far my two boys are all MSD, i chose to start with 1/4 size because they are lighter, easy to carry around and play with. i also don't have a lot of space in my room so i think they would fit better than bigger sized dolls. However, i do like some of the more mature sculpt that SD dolls have, but many times i was stopped by their weight and of course, their prices.
I will see how i manage my two boys then maybe decide on whether or not to invite some of the big guys into my house...

    20. I personally lean more towards SD sized dolls.. I'unno, I like the bigs dolls. Lol. But I do have an MSD on my wish list. I think for me, it mostly depends on appearance. I mean, if I like a doll that much, it doesn't really matter what size it is. I have also seen some smaller dolls who have attracted me. But not as much as the SD sized ones. Lol.
