How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I specifically looked for MSD size, because I am sure I cannot handle anything taller/larger than a doll/figure that doesn't meet my line of sight when the doll is standing on the table while I am sitting down. :sweat

Besides, I find it difficult to manhandle a doll that towers over me when I am sitting down, when putting the doll aside for a while and also when carrying that doll around. Plus, they fall harder if they are taller.

The down side of having a MSD is the sculpt is not mature enough :?

    2. I don't identify well with young characters, so I'm always drawn to more mature looking faces. This of course equates to dolls of 60cm or larger, depending. That and in my mind, Bigger typically = better ^^ I'm not too partial to the Mecha Angels (at 80 cm!) with their lanky legs, and the 90cm AOD molds aren't all that attractive to me, so the 70cm range it is for me. :D

    3. It was sort of decided for me, when I saw Hound, I had to have him, so I sized the rest of my dolls to suit. I never wanted minis, but recently got one, I love him to death, and admit there are times when he is much more convenient, however I am still a big doll addict, and always will be. For the record my minis are children of some of my big dolls.

    4. My girl is 58 cm and my guy is 65. Since they're based on my characters, I'm extremely picky about their size in correlation to each other. 65 is about 6 feet for me. My girl comes up to his shoulder, which is about where she should be. XD Problem is, finding a tan girl to go between them. x_x Then, I'll need to compare both of them with a DOC to see if the one I have in mind would be a good choice for another character of mine who is supposed to be about 10 years old.

But if I were just buying dolls randomly, I'd probably stick around SD size. They're easy to sew for and not too horribly cumbersome to carry around. MSD would be nice too, but I think I'd have trouble sewing for it. :/

I've debated if I should get a Mecha Angel. I think I'll need to carry/handle my friend's Sabik to decide if I really want to get one in the future or not.

    5. I've always known that SDs are for me. I like big plushies, I like big dolls... OMG a few days ago I was looking into those pretty Japanese sex dolls, and only because I thought it would be neat to have a doll this huge:o Although I am not planning any Soom Mecha Angels or 90cm AoD dolls, as a) resin is damn heavy b) my other bjds would look really bad with one of these monsters, like from a different world, and I can't resize the whole family as there are no cute huge dolls.

Sometimes I wonder if I would rather not buy MSDs instead, but I know I would never be 100% happy with them... I am wondering about that only when I have no monies, MSDs are cheaper:doh

    6. Humm....for me,all I have in mine when I decided to have my first was "I want a teenage size !!" that's all ^^;

    7. I tend to look at faces before I think of the size. o:
But I do go "Oh, this girl is gorgeous, but she`s a SD and my boy`s a MSD. That won`t work ):"
haha. But yeah, mostly I just care about prettiness, really.

    8. I go SD size, because all of the other dolls I collect are smaller and I'm sick of dealing with teeny clothes/shoes/jewelry. I also wanted the more "mature" look.

      Hugs,

      Jan

    9. I didn't even consider the size, which I suppose is a good thing because the Rosette Doll that I ordered is an awkward size (47.5cm)~ I fell for the sculpt, and the size was just what the doll was available in.

    10. I was slightly freaked out by SDs at first, specially that I fell for MSD in the first place but by now I'm not thinking about the size as a deciding factor at all. I truly desire a Bermann even though it's WAY out of my league and I do not care about his size, his posing issues or anything, I just want him. So I figure size isn't important at all if the sculpt is what you truly want.

    11. I originally got into MSDs, as all of my friends' dolls were that size.

I later saw my friend's SD sized dolls, and it was love. I'm falling for SDs, as it is much easier to shop for cute wigs and clothes for them, so I find! :D

    12. I have decided that I'm going to focus on SD-size, since I have more adult characters I'm turning into dolls. I still love little girls and am considering getting another one or more of those someday...

My first doll was a MSD girl thanks to my friend teasing me with Bluefairy's site. She was ordering a MSD doll from there and suggested that I and my sister would also order together with her. The Tiny Fairy girls were so pretty and as I had until then been thinking that even though BJDs were extremely awesome I wouldn't buy one, I suddenly fell for a cute little May. 'It's only one small doll and not as expensive as the big ones' was my excuse and after buying it I definitely wasn't going to get any more. Nowadays I'm pretty thankful to my friend because I've started to think that without that first fall I probably wouldn't have started to collect dolls in the first place - not even to mention me switching to buying SD-sized dolls. That 'only one small doll' thus was the first step on my road to doom... :p

    13. I bought the one I fell in love with that was within my budget *shrug* I know it makes me a defective in the community because I did no reasearch, started no threads and did no angsting.. oh well.

    14. Ive actually got one of each and I think I prefer SDs to MSDs - but I so want homme kirill so bad!!

    15. SD because as a little girl, I always had small dolls (they were usually cheaper and made for kids) and whenever my mom took me to a doll store or art gallery with dolls, I always admired the large dolls that were sculpted so realistically. Once I finally had the money for a BJD, I had big dolls on the brain. They just seem more novel and different. Although I'm sure if I found the right tiny, I'd love that size too.

    16. I was totally confused about that too! I wanted do know what they even looked like compared to a human being. I saw a picture of a woman with a MSD on her shoulder, and I just thought, "WOAH that's small". I never saw a picture of a SD though, but I read a manga and the BJD's were in it. (Shishoku Kiss). The doll looked pretty big in the girls arms, and I was just like, "that's exactly the size I want!" so I bought one.
Now I'm really happy with my boy. I wanted a bigger doll because I wanted him to be unique and different among other dolls (I'm talking about size only here), that you could find at Wall Mart or something, you know? Plus, the SD clothes and wigs just appealed to me more.
I don't think that you should base your doll choice on size though. I mean, I was on a limited budget, but if you're not, then just go with the one that you like best. If you know in your heart that that's the right doll, then buy it, no matter the size :)

    17. It's really whatever catches my eyes.
I prefer the SDs over everything else though, I think. Even the MSD seems too... I'm not sure... The smaller dolls give me the jeepers. It's pathetic, I know, and there are tons of cute little dolls I must admit. I just could never picture myself actually owning such a small thing. Perhaps it's just my paranoia speaking, I'm not sure.

    18. I like MSDs the most. Just the weight of them and the size is perfect. Not too big and not too small.

But I liked having a tiny. I was able to take her anywhere with me!

And I would like an SD just to have a bigger doll. I think it'd be neat.

    19. I know this might sound really odd but to me SD was the 'standard' size. At least for my character dolls. So all my character dolls (at least in my COF universe) with at least one exception were deemed to be SD. Oddly enough I got the one character who wasn't going to be SD but MSD first.

I'm definately not against other size dolls. I really want a puki posedion and a puki piki for example...

    20. When My aunt bought me Luna se bought it for the fact that an MSD might be easier for me to handle for my first BJD. the next one i'm getting is going to be an SD. I think I choose them as more of what one looks good to me....Like i've seen some small ones that I like and stuff.
