How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I have been buying all msd's (5dolls, 1 head, 1body) only 2 i actually have so far. I like mature minis, but i REALLY love some of the 60 or even 65cm molds out there. Not to mention the Soom MDs. I dont want to start buying big ones, because im afraid ill love them! My house/bank account will hate me. lol Anyone else trying to resist the bigger ones?

    2. Prefer larger SD sized. I like the larger sculpt and the detail you get and the sense of maturity in them over the smaller sizes. I do like some of the smaller sizes but prefer the larger ones.

    3. All mine and all my future ones are/will be MSDs. Mainly because they're the prefect size, weight, and price range for me from their body+heads to clothing, etc. for me. :)

SD and bigger, I find too big and out of my price range (though there are some I would love to have if they were msd sized!), and the tinies are too small for me and I would lose them, not to mention there isn't any look of the tinies types I actually like beside perhaps the Pipos and the like. XD

    4. When I first saw this kind of dolls, my reaction was "I would like to have one big, that I can sew clothes to".
So... when I really started to look around, I looked at dolls of 65cm and over. And because I'm soomed, I've fallen for their SG's.

    5. I fell in love with a face, then learned about sizes. I fell for an MSD and I think it's a nice medium (whihc is where I usually fall on everything, so it just fits for me). Though, as I learned more and more about ABJDs, Pukis started to become more and more appealing...

I think I will stay with MSDs, and pepper in some smaller dolls here and there as companions. I don't think I could ever have the space or time to handle a Larger doll.

But then again, I never thought I'd be crazy over dolls to begin with! ^_^

(Sorry for double-post. My internet hates me today! /facepalm)

    7. I personally love the SDC line, as I like the more mature look, yet also prefer a more compact size. Unfortunately, I tend towards being less oriented on practicality when pretty gets involved in the equation... Now if they made SD16 types in 1/4th scale, I think I'd have to lock my wallet away for a good while to keep myself from spending all my savings... T_T

    8. I was lucky and when I started collecting I had a friend who owned 43cm to 70cm so I got to see a wide range before I even purchased one. I really like both MSD and SD (own both) but I find that 70cm is just to big for me. I also like having size to my dolls so I know I could never go below MSD even though there are some really cute molds out there.

    9. I had initially said I'd have all minis and maybe a tiny or two. I still think the mature minis are my favorites and are a great size (I'm short, and my house is SMALL) - but I now have an SD in the works. I definitely want a Puki. I held one at a meet and was caught by the cuteness. I guess I'll end up with mostly minis, with a few tinies and a couple SD's, in the end.

    10. My first dolls were MSD and that was because everyone I knew had those. Then I got my SD just because I love the mold...he's georgeous. Lately I have been wishing for a second Puki. I have had mine for a few months and although the size is a bit small for me I won't part with her cause there is so much more I can do with her (minature shops are like god to Puki owners).

    11. I seem to be drawn to the MSD size because I like to dress them, and they are a more manageable size. ... not too big, not too small.

    12. I didn't decide yet wich size I like the most, but I'm drawn to MSD.
I've had dolls from tiny Puki to SD.
After knowing all these sizes, I came to the conclusion that I don't like tinies (I sold them all).
I like SD very much, but they are too big to carry around (I like to carry my dolls everywhere).
YoSDs and MSDs are the best sizes for me, but I prefer MSD because I can find some mature dolls in this size too.
I'm going to keep my two SDs and the Yo, but I think I will collect only MSDs from now on.

    13. I actually had to hold them to find out. My first girl was an SD, and she was just way too big. Plus it took quite a bit of fabric to make her stuff. Now I have nothing but mature minis and 1 Puki, with a YoSD on the way. But like others have said, I'd love to see some of the SD sculpts in MSD.

    14. Size-wise, early on when I started thinking about ABJDs, there were only a few companies producing dolls. Volks being the major one and I didn't like their mini-sized molds at all. So, I went for the 1/3 scale and never looked back! :)

    15. My first doll is going to be SD sized... but for the longest LONGEST time, I wanted a Soom Sabik. Still do too.

But, from what I've read, MDs are pretty hard to carry around, find clothes for, as well as pose and stand without a lot of help fom wiring/sueding/what have you. When I DO get my Sabik, I'm sure I'll have been in the hobby long enough to deal with him properly, ya dig?

The only time that I'd go lower than... SD is to show my boy's different ages throughout his life, you know? I'm not very fond of the young looking dolls... or the Puki and Bobobie scene. (Girls either, for that matter...) I'd rather go attractive than cute adn sweet. Because of that, I always lean to older, larger dolls~

    16. I think I'm leaning towards the "teeny/tiny" size dolls. As it was a LaTi yellow doll that introduced me to the whole bjd world.

I'm so happy it opened my eyes to all sorts of wonderful and magical things!!!
The bigger dolls seem too big in my eyes, I have a Blythe doll and she seems like the biggest scale I'd go.

But I'm sure I'm open to others opinions and will probably change my own in the future. :)

    17. I didn't. The doll size found me :)
The doll I fell in love with and just had to have happened to be a MSD. Before him, I was all on the bigger dolls but I ended up getting him, ad with him I got a msd event head, so then I had to get a body to her and then I had two msd dolls :sweat But I will have dolls in all ranges :D My first SD is flying in as we speak :D

    18. My first Bjd was a Tiny(Lati Yellow) and i love this size! :D
I have 2 Lati yellows, a Lati white (regular size) and waiting for a Pukifee Zoe! :aheartbea
I loved to make all kind of miniatures, since a long time ago. And nowadays i love to sew for my tinies and crocheting and knitting ;)
Space and $$$ are a bit of an issue too...
I have Blythes dolls and they seem like the biggest scale I'd go :)
      I'm thinking of a Planetdoll Mini-Riz :D

    19. I have been all over the place with sizes. If I still owned all of the dolls I have bought I wouldn't have room for all of them. I started out with MSD. I liked the size for sewing and posing, and I adored the BBB Sprite, who was MSD with a mature bust. I had 3 MSDs (1 girl 2 boys), and then I bought a couple tinies. After a while I realized I didn't like boys because I like sewing girl clothes. So I sold the boys. I also wanted to try out SDs. I loved my first SD and now I have four 60 cm girls and another on layaway! I have sold all the MSDs and one tiny (for different reasons), and I gave my Pipos tiny to my daughter. Then I wanted a "child" doll, so I have ordered a small bust MSD again. Long story short: During all of that exploration I have realized that I like SD size the most. I love sewing the bigger clothes and making the faceups. MSD, especially adorable childish molds, are my second favorite.

    20. When I first started looking at bjd's and shopping around for that perfect doll, I was convinced it would be an SD... but then I stumbled across a picture of Mina [My DIM Sweet Eileen] and knew she was going to be my first doll. I think it all comes down to the person, and what they expect in their dolls. For me it'll always be about the innocence and overall cuteness factors in tinies, at least the larger ones. I don't think I'd be happy with something I thought was too small.

Size is a personal matter, you just have to figure out what best suits you.
