How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I don't even have a doll yet but I'm only really drawn towards the larger ones.
I don't want something that looks like a baby and I don't want something that looks like a barbie. Therefore the larger dolls seem to be the only sensible choice for me.

    2. my first doll was an MSD only because he was the one I fell in love with. It really didn't matter what size he was at the time. Since then I have fallen for many more dolls and in all different sizes and I like that. I guess in my case size really didn't matter.

    3. It doesn't really matter to me about the size, it's whether or not I love the doll that decides it. I'm only 145 cm, and Vain is 62.5 cm! But I love to feel that I'm actually holding something, and I think they're not heavy at all, at least not Luts SDF :)

    4. At the time I thought that the SD size was just too big and expensive for me. So I focused on MSD's and I've been happy with the size that they are.

    5. I only have one BJD at the moment, a MSD. For a starter it seemed right to get a MSD, they are not the smallest, nor the largest out there. Now I am getting a 60 cm one and I wonder how I will like that size. At times Lico just seems a bit small for me, but it is the face that matters most, not the size. Tinies, even though they are extremely cute and hugable, I think might just be too small. But I never saw one in RL so I am not sure.

    6. i didnt decide it fully. it was when i had no monies, so i asked my dad for 4 months, and by then it was my bday, and i was looking at luts and dollzone, and he wouldnt let me get an sd(he says therye too expenasive. i say theyre awesomely big!), so i went with msd size. after a week of comparing, i went with the 10 dollars more(after adding up wat a kid delf aru would cost, and doing the pros and cos of dzz and kid delfs) dz nina! yayay! now im in love with msd, and resin has eaten my soul.

    7. I'm still waiting on my first doll, but I decided on msd for variety of reasons. First, was of course the cost factor. Some of the higher end dolls can be quite expensive! I wasn't willing to shell out the price of an SD when it could go toward almost two msds. Especially for my first. Then of course there was the size. Minis means having to use less fabric when making clothing versus SDs (eventually I hope to make my own XD), and size wise makes them easier to travel with and store in limited space, especially with more then one. Finally, of course, there was the fact that some msds can be made to look mature enough for the type of characters I was looking for, without being overly gender-specific or even mold specific. I find that with the msd molds, they're more versatile with face-ups because of that slightly younger-than-teenager face they have. With a good face-up, they can either look 12, or 20. And of course they're older then the smaller dolls..

That's not to say that SDs or Yo-sds/equivalent are a better choice, because there are a few of the bigger AND smaller dolls that I would love to call my own. But Minies got the best pros, so minies it is!

*reads* Wow XD Didn't mean to write so much, but ^^ It was a combination of these factors that lead me to decide on minis :) *waits impatiently for doll to arrive*

    8. The Goldilocks method. First was a tiny. Too small, also too childlike. Second was an SD. Lovely doll, love her to pieces...don't think I could handle a horde of them! Just a bit big and a bit heavy, though I intend to get her a 70cm guy to hang out with someday. Then my Resinsoul Mei showed up, and the size and weight is a nice balance. I prefer mature to childlike, so I've ended up liking one of the less convenient sizes to find clothes for the best, but at least that'll help me weed through stuff! And they do take up less space than the SD size. As for weight, I may even end up getting a RS body when I eventually get my larger boy, just to cut that down a bit.

I thought bigger would be better, but I never knew for sure what I'd like until I held them and dressed them and such. I think faceups would be easier on bigger heads, though. And I do also like really tiny ones, because they can just fit anywhere!

    9. For me, bigger is better. I can't see myself going smaller then a MSD. Currently I've got one, and have an SD coming my way. I'll see more once they're both in my hands but from other dolls I've interacted with, I like the larger ones. Yes they take up space, but I find it easier to make clothing for them and they're something very satisfying about a doll that size.
      I'm eyeing a 70cm next...

    10. I've always had MSD-sized dolls, but I'm waiting on my Hazy...I want her to be big enough so I can macro shoot her face and have a good stitch-to-clothing size ratio without there being a big person-like thing in the corner of my room.

    11. i decide upon 60cm only...but somehow somehow it all become 65cm+ i only got a few msd and tinies >.>

    12. I've decided only MSD and under because I am small and lazy and don't like to carry anything that big and heavy. XD *shot* I have minimal space in my room as it is too. @_@ I feel that MSD is a nice, comfy convienent size for me. ^.^ Also less expensive if you're making clothes/accessories for them, I would think.:sweat

    13. Sizes of my dolls are all related to family members I want them to portray. I have a Secretdoll Binu and DollnDoll Cookie (AG serendipity) in my Tonner/Kinetic family. DollnDoll Cookie also has her own 1" scale dollhouse. My SD Hazy (currently in the waiting room stage) will be hanging around with me for the most part. I'd love to get a BFF or love interest sometime in the future.

    14. I just buy whatever I like, but I don't have any tinys--they are just a bit too cute for my taste. I also rarely buy with characters or stories in mind. What attracts me is the artistic quality.

    15. How mature a doll looks was the deciding factor for me, so all the planned dolls on my list are either 60cm or 43cm sized. Don't like little kids at all so having a doll look like one would only annoy me.

    16. I just like what i like. but for me the Bigger dolls are my favorite. right now i'm still deciding if i want my first doll to be Iplehouse YID Louis or Dollmore's Lusion. One is more affodable but the other is just 0_0! so it's a toughie lol.

    17. I just chose an MSD for my first doll so I knew what I was getting into. It was smaller, and much easier to deal with and take care of as a first doll, yet still big enough to play around with. Also, the first dolls that I really fell for were MSD's. It was funny because I used to tell myself "I would hate to have a doll family with such different variations in height, so I'm going to stick with MSD's!!" But yeah.... I was silly to think that would happen, anyway...

That's just my opinion, but i think it was a good move on my part. Having an SD for my first probably would have overwhelmed me somewhat. Now that I have two MSD's though, I'm moving on up! xD

    18. I buy based on sculpt. The character the doll represents is more important to me than the doll's physical size. Two of my characters are the same "age" but one is an MSD and the other is 65cm, and I refuse to justify the physical height difference on something like dwarfism or just being really short/tall. I know what my characters are like in my mind, and that's enough for me.

    19. i have a small room and i want my boy to stay in there with me. so a MSD size was perfect. that size was also better suited for my price range. but i know i want to bring him places with me so a MSD would be the perfect size.

    20. Based on seeing/handling other people's BJD throught the years, the MSD size was the one that appealed to me the most. The fact that the first headmold I saw that I liked enough to buy was also that size was the clincher.
