How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. My choice was simply because of personal taste. :)
The first doll i fell in love for was a MSD, and so were the second and the following dolls in wishlist (i only have two dolls so far XP)
but from the fifth to the others, they're all either very tall SDs or mini mini's :)
So, i don't have a particular scale for my dolls. Some variety can be fun too :)

    2. I consider the look first, but at the same time, I like bigger dolls because it'll be easier to make things for them in details. But if I like them, I like them regardless of size.

    3. the first doll i fell in love with was 64cm. i'd never seen any BJDs in person before so i just ordered him and didn't think about the size.
when i got a 41cm doll it was really weird and felt like she was too small/light so i probably won't buy many smaller dolls in the future.

    4. Well, I first wanted a MSD because I really loved the face sculpt of DZ Megi. At that time, I didn't know anything about BJDs or their sizes. When I made a conscious decision to get an MSD size, it was because I figured things like shoes and clothes would be less expensive for them. I'm about to get my first SD sized doll, and I think that he'll be easier to sew for since there's more space. I got a puki and she was IMPOSSIBLE to sew for, everything had to be SO tiny. So I will not be getting a puki that needs clothes again. I am planning for a Yo sized doll, but I think that I'll be okay with her. I can buy her some clothes and make her some too. So over all, I feel good with pretty much any size doll, but I only like to sew for bigger ones.

    5. I wanted a 1/4 doll at first, but then I fell in love with an 1/3 doll, so I now have an 1/3 doll

    6. My first was an SD, a larger doll really appealed, though I can't explain why. I'v since gotten 70-80cm's aswell as a 30cm and can certainly say 60cm+ is right for me.

    7. i always wanted sd or sd13 size, just because a larger doll seemed more "worth" the money.

but now IH has these wonderful faces on their JIDs and, well.. ya just can't fight true love.

    8. I had only 58-60cm sized ones for a while, now I have two of the MSD sized ones and they're really cute. But I do still tend to pay a little more attention to the bigger ones.

    9. I just wanted the biggest doll I can get..... was very temted to go for one of those big scary 1/2 size. Only $600 and they wear size 3 toddler shoes! But I decided on 60cm so it would be easier to buy clothes and shoes.

    10. I went with the biggest bang for your buck concept. Well that and I was at the Dollmore store when I decided on my doll...I didn't do a lot of research before I picked out my model doll. It was more or less....These dolls from this store are gorgeous! Before I ordered I was on here and vguely read some of the things on smaller dolls, peeked at afew but again it was 'if I'm spending that much money.....' So 1/3 it was!

Lately though, I've been looking at some of the smaller ones. One cute tiny little feeple, and sone 45 cm....I want them, but then I wonder if I wouldn't feel they're not worth the ammount when they're not as big? I suppose we'll see!

    11. I think this way too^^ My other hobby is sewing, and i enjoy sewing clothes for my doll as well.
Also, when I looked at first msd seemed too childish-like for me, but those 70cm and 1/2, too realistic...so it seens SD size it's my favorite.

    12. I went with MSD because they're cheaper... ^^;

    13. First of all I saw many BJD pictures and I was sad that many beautiful dolls are so big :( I prefered MDS size. Now I like all sizes: SD, MSD, tinies, except VERY big dolls, such as MechaAngels or AoD 1\2. They still seem very big and heavy to me. Now I plan to buy some tinies doll if I can find suitable characters. And now I have some SDs in my wishlist and I not feel any troubles because this. :)

    14. i decided size when i started out with a mini, thought it was too small, so i moved to SD's and now i'm back with mini's and happy. i like the fact that you can make them look cute or mature depending on how you style them...it sometimes takes a little trial and error to find out what size is best ^^

    15. The sculpt I loved most was SD size, that ultimately decided it. I've owned mostly large dolls, and don't think I'll get small ones anytime soon. I may get bigger than 60cm, though.

    16. Well, I decided to get a 41 cm doll as my first. My reasons are that she's less expensive than a taller doll, I like the mold a lot, and I think it would be too overwhelming to have no resin people and then suddenly have one gigantic resin person who I don't know what to do with. XD

    17. When i first picked out my doll, i really didn't pay attention to the size, I know I was getting a large doll 1/3, but it really didn't sink in till I finally got saw the box she cam in, and I was like wow she is really big...

    18. I don't like SDs. They are entirely too large for me.

I really LOVE the variety of sizes and looks of tinies, but want some adult(-ish) bodies to fit some of my characters in. After fighting it and struggling to find well rounded group of good looking adult tinies (read; nearly non-existant dolls :...(), most of my planned dolls are going to be MSDs.

I want to eventually have a small army of tinies, though.:)

    19. I started with tinies, (I was going to start with mature tinies, but didn't find any I liked) because I thought the small size would be easiest to house and play with. Then, I decided that I wanted to get elder siblings for them, so I got some minis. But now I'm ready to fill out the families and get SD sized dolls as well. Luckily, the right sculpts for characters have been in the right size ranges for the concepts I had already set down.

    20. I'm still very new in the hobby but I first got into BJD's because I wanted a cute younger sibling for my Pullip (and because their faces were just so beautiful). So I started out with tinies.

I was really wary of getting a big BJD, ie something lifesize. I think it's easy to become confused with just how big a lot of the BJD's are because it's rare to see pics of the dolls with people. I really loved LTF Ante when she came out but I was worried she would be too big. I think a lot of the close up photography tricks us into thinking BJD's are larger than they really are. It was when I happened to see a pic of an Ante next to a Pullip that I realized how small she was and I bought her. I've been very frustrated though with trying to dress my Ante in more mature clothing. I wanted some Victorian style clothes for her but everything is just so childish for that size.

So instead of fighting it I'm going to get an MNF soon as they have such a great selection of mature clothing and my LTF Ante will be her younger sibling. The MNF isn't as huge as I once imagined so I'm very comfortable getting her. I doubt I would go larger though, I want my dolls to be doll size and not human size ;)

What would be very helpful I think is an all encompassing comparison thread where owners submit pics of humans standing next to their dolls. Even if the owners don't want their faces on the internet, they could block them out in a graphics program *lol* But it would be sooo helpful to see the different molds etc next to a real person to really understand how big or little each BJD is.

      luv MOP...
