How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I do recall there being a thread of people with their dolls. I think it was in the BJD games or Memes section, but I can't remember where.

Is there anyone who actually bought a 1/2 scale doll? How do you lug it around? *_*

    2. The sculpt I wanted determined the size. I've always been fond of SDs and I didn't have an issue with what the size was supposed to be. I love my Delf girl very much. I just got my Akando today because he was perfect for my OC, even his size vs the Delf girls is perfect because he'll be about accurate to his story height with his lover (a Delf funny enough). Just worked out that way.

    3. I haven't seen it. I did spend hours and hours on Flickr and the tinies comparison thread trying to find pics of the mold I wanted next to something I knew the size of. Usually Pullip or human! *lol*

    4. I think too that even with all the research in the world the best way to know if a size is right for you is to either buy it or have the opportunity of playing with someone else's.

I've recently decided not to buy anymore dolls smaller than a Lati Yellow or Pukifee. I recently sold a Lati White SP and I'll be selling my Puki Pipi as soon as I get the pics up. Although it was hard for me to decide to sell these girls as they are just so beautiful, they are too tiny and I don't enjoy struggling to dress them. My fingers just get all in the way! *lol*

I do have a Realpuki on the way though and she is smaller than a Puki Pipi but as she's an elf and living in my mock 'forest' I won't be bothering with shoes for her and she'll have on some very simple (most likely sleeveless!!) dresses. Same with my elfdoll tiny Lyn who is living in the same forest.

    5. At first I wasn't sure whether having different sized dolls would work because they wouldn't look like they all fit in... I really wanted the Iplehouse Tatiana so I thought I might stick to MSDs but after seeing some photos from people with mixed sized dolls and seeing some really sweet SDs and tinies I don't feel the need to stick to MSD size anymore

    6. i tend to like msd size best, but i will have a couple of big guys and a few tiny ones. msd seem to be the size for me, its not too big or small, but they tend to have younger looking faces and i don't really like super young looking dolls. at first i was agaist getting any big guys untill i went to a doll meet and saw a couple big one and they didn't look as giant as i thought. but my minmee head is a sd size and i fell in love with the heliot face scuplt... i guess i tend to get doll that suit my fancy but i tend to go for for msd size more...

    7. Size doesn't really bother me, its the mold that pulls me in and thats what I will buy. Coincidently all of my purchases so far have been SD, save for a single tiny. There are a few MSD sized dolls that are niggling me to get them, but at the moment I can resist as I am saving for a Heliot. (Grail dolls over just normal want to buy dolls!)

    8. Hi. This is my problem right now. I have started with some tinies buyng all their needed stuff (wigs, shoes etc) and then I said that I should buy just one yosd to have in the collection but not playing wiht it. yeah... that was before I saw my Isabella Bb. It was an instant love and I forgot right away all my tinies. Why that happened?? Deleted in my breai? Can not understand! So I bought a dozen things for her to fit the different styles of the clothes I create but then one day I saw Amy of iplehouse and... omg right from the start again? I am pretty scared and trying to resist. The problem Iis that would like to buy another yosd but most of them are very baby-faced but (new excuses you get it?) Amy looks more than a girl and if I let myself go on talking I shall never finish...
Yes, I am in a big dilema. Any ideas please?
      Thanks in advance.

    9. I have the same issue with baby faced tinies. They're are too many of them!

I have a Bei, the elf-ish version of Isabella, and faced with the same issue, I bought her a Bao BF so that I could have a good looking boy partner that doesn't look oddly proportioned next to her. Bobobie and ResinSoul 27CM yo-SDs scale perfectly to look like young kids, maybe even tweens, next to MSDs, so she could easily be a younger sister to an IP Amy (Your Amy doesn't have to be a little girl if you don't want her to be!). I'm getting an MSD next, and she's going to be like an older sister to my pair.

If you're wanting a doll in another size that appeals to you, keep looking around, you might find a nicer doll in another company, or not. Whichever, get the one's you want, you can have more than one!

I was seriously considering getting an SD I really liked (HZ Hui Ka), but, doing exactly what MotherofPearls recommends, I took a friend's BBB Ju (a mini) for a few days to have time to really play with a doll around her size, and she feels large to me, despite being a mini on the smaller side, and I have little space to keep more than 3 or 4 dolls currently.... Basically, I'm still still getting a group os MSD and Tiny dolls. :sweat

    10.
    11. For me the size isn't a reason to like or dislike a doll (though I don't have much space to put a larger doll :sweat) My first and so far only BJD is a Resin Soul Mei, because I fell absolutely in love with her sculpt. I didn't really have a mental image as to how large 42cm would be. Two other sculpts that I really want to bring into my home someday are a Resin Soul Dan (58cm) and a Fairyland Puki Pukisha (11cm) because I love the way they both look.
The only dolls I was used to are 1/6 scale (I used to own barbies and I have a 27cm Obitsu), so even Mei seemed huge to me when I first saw her in real life :sweat

    12. Hahaha, I think I've been having the opposite problem!

My first one was an SD13, so when I got an MSD boy it was eerie how light he was in my hands. o__o I almost wanted the weight there, because I was afraid that I'd forget I was carrying him.

    13. I dont have any of my dolls yet, but I chose mine on looks. I dont care if their heavy. I'm not a middle person. Their eather really big to me, my Ys will be like 66cm, or really small, my puki pongpong will be 11cm. As long as their cute or beautiful size doesnt matter.

    14. I used to love barbies, but always wanted something bigger so when I discovered that there were 60cm dolls I knew I had to have 1 :)

    15. I really like the 1/6 scale dolls because then I can decorate their rooms with pretty rement stuff! The availability of clothes is nice. Also...they fit in my china cabinet... XD

    16. Before I got my first doll I had thought that I would only want to collect 60cm dolls. Now I have a little mix, from 70cm- 24cm.
I don't have any MSD dolls yet, but I have plans to get to before the end of the year... so I guess it's whatever tickles my fancy ;)

    17. Considered first an MSD-sized doll, because someone pointed me to the Dream of Doll website and fangirled the dolls there. Then I attended a few meetups and thought, yea, sure, MSDs should be alright. Then I got to look after an MSD for awhile and found that it felt too small for me, so I decided I'd go with SD-size. So I got a Hound. ._. Subsequently, anything smaller than a Hound felt small. ^_^;;;

Recently, though, I've gotten a bit interested in tinies. They're small and cute! But I'm still not fond of MSD size. ._.

    18.
    19. Since deciding to order a doll at some point, I was torn between MSD sized (Homme Kirill was who I was going for if it turned out to be MSD sized), or SD (and realistically, I planned on either Camine or Lahoo then), and I honestly thought that I would like an MSD sized doll more.

However, I'd always been the type of person who liked things that felt more substantial, not really heavy, per se, but something that had a bit more weight to it, which would definitely be an SD sized doll. In addition to that, as a kid, I liked the big stuffed animals more (more fun to cuddle with ^^), and so I decided that SD sizes suited me much better, and having seen one in person a little afterward (one of my friends is the ONLY other person here I know who owns bjds), I decided I really was more comfortable with SD sized dolls, so that's basically what I decided to go with (it really helps to see one in person though, as far as getting to know their height and weight and such) :)

    20. I once said that i would collect only MSDs because they were the perfect size for me. Then I fell in love with a mold that was a SD so i bought him and don't regret it^^ I love both sizes equally.

However, I was never a fan of tinies. I thought they were too expensive for their size and that their size would not satisfy me. So I said: "ha! I would never spend money on tinies!" I saw the pukis, fell in love with them, now I have 2 pukis which i adore above all things. They are adorable beyond words! I would have more Pukis but right now I found another obssession: the 28cm tinies.

Never say never! I'd have a BJD in any size at any time:aheartbea
