How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. It depends of my story and doll's age. In my first story, MSD dolls are adult ones. (Well, okay, maybe something between adult and teen...) And little bit shorter dolls are teen and tiny dolls are children. So, if I buy some dolls for this story, It depends of her age.
In my second story, I just buy little dolls for a teens. I don't even want to have any adults to this. And if I want some younger child's.. Well, I wouldn't know what to do.
And if I want to do some doll's who are just beautiful and with no story, I would like to have SD. I think that I could make that size look's like awesome! So, if I'd do some doll with no story, it's the only one witch could be SD size...

    2. i dont have a doll but i am making one. it is about 17 inches. (around msd size i think, maybe :P) I feel like it is a good size, not huge, i dont like big dolls that much. I really like small size with adult body, like Marina Bychkova's dolls. so like 10-18 inches range is what i prefer.

    3. My first doll was an Orient Doll So Dong XD. He's adorable and I love him to death, but I don't think I'll ever get another Tiny.

I have about one of everything (I think) except an 80cm, but I really love MSD. They're easy to sew for and easy to carry.

So why do I have 4 SD and only 2 MSD? Because I find a lot of the MSD faces are just a bit too young for me :(.

But I have a few I'm saving up for anyway!

    4. with my first doll, size wasn't what I was thinking about... (I kinda was surprised)
I fell in love with an Elfdoll Mir being sold 2nd hand on Ebay and bought him... ordered some clothes based on size info...

and when he arrived I was "OMG! he's huge!" even though I had gone and figured out that 60cm is roughly 2 feet tall.. I still look at him and think "He's taller than 60 cm!"

    5. lol, trinlayk. XD Yeah, same here, I knew 60cm was 2 feet, but I didn't really think about how tall that actually was until I saw my first BJD in person. After that, I decided I wanted a mini. Smaller would have been fine too, except past mini they all start looking like kids, and it seems like it would be harder to make clothes and stuff for them, so a mini is a good ballance of big-enough-without-being-huge.

    6. I don't know why but I always wanted a SD. The idea of a big doll just appealed to me. My first girl was 58cm and that just felt right, she's light enough to carry in one hand. She's also easy enough to sew for.
Though when I first got my 70cm DOI, I was shocked at how big he was. I love him and he is beautiful, but he's just so tall and heavy. After my dollshe boy gets here, no more dolls that big:) Though I will probably crack down the line and buy another.

    7. I want a 1/3. The smaller ones make me feel like a pedophile...

    8. I have an SD size and a mini-size. The only other dolls on my list are MSD-sized ones. I get them to complete story sets, not because size is so important. Owning the larger and the smaller ones have helped me not worry much about having the family look odd, because in their story sets, they are the same size range. The MSDs have an MSD size story set, the SD has an SD size story set, etc. Group photos of them all are likely to be rare save comparison shots.

    9. ...and he's JUST such a hottie... I think his size is actually just right for him... :aheartbea

    10. Originally I wanted a 1/4, the huge 70+ cm ones were just too big, and I thought the 1/6 dolls were just too small, but... Well, I fell in love with a Resin Soul/Bobobie 'Bei' and that was pretty much it. Couldn't help myself :sweat

I would like a 1/4 though, easier to sew for at least. It is easier to carry such a little doll around though!

    11. The size of my dolls depends always, how old is my character and is he/she going to be taller/smaller than others. : ) But now I'm in love with MSD and SD size dolls. : )

    12. I love a lot of the SD faces but the size intimidates me...so I think my first doll will probably be an MSD.

    13. I never really liked the size of bigger dolls, and I have to admit I'd take cute things over Pretty, Smexy, Elegant or handsome ones anyday. So, I personally think MSD are just right for my taste! Not to big, not too small and have that adorable face that I just can't resist. Besides, I can make alot more things for them c:
I don't think i'll ever plan on getting an SD sized doll, because the anatomy of a MSD and a SD would just annoy me so bad. They always look so odd when standing beside eachother and bad anatomy is a big peeve of mine. xD
Although I don't mind admiring my friend's SD dolls c:

    14. I *thought* I had it down to the minis, when I only had one SD sized girl. Then I got a Raurencio boy, picked largely to be a body donor for a Minimee head. Somehow Ark snarked his way home, too. Sphaler ended up here just because he was pretty, and between the three of those guys, *someone* should be able to lend a body to my Zion head, too, I figured. And then they discontinued Ark, Jace, and Feanor and sold the unassembled kits at a discount...so there's another body and Jace head on order. So much for sticking to minis!

But I'm trying to be reasonably consistent with the big guys, around 65cm (in human feet, anyhow!) is the "normal" size, and Sphaler's the odd one out, shape-wise, because the Raurencio and Unidoll bodies have much larger thighs and chests - they're much more difficult to fit (yay for marshpants and other made to fit stuff!), so most stuff is bought to fit them. My incoming Sabik kit's going to be in a class of his own, but Ark's already swiped a shirt sized for him and just rolled up the sleeves - it's not such a bad fit around. Sharing is caring - make sure your dolls can get into each other's pants (literally) and life is easier! ;-)

    15. My doll is a MSD just because of the fact that she was cheaper than the bigger dolls and my mom and I thought she would be small enough to find a place for her...
After she arrived we both were surprised how big she is - my next doll is also a MSD because I decided that 40+ is the perfect size for me and all my dolls will look like they are at the same age.
But I also want to have some bigger dolls to give my older OCs a body that fit them better than the little ones.

    16. I like Delf size or SD size the most. And the majority of my dolls are that size. I have a MNF and a Sabik, so if I really like the sculpt I would consider almost any size. I would really like to get a Puki Puki in the future. If I am at a convention, I keep myself to one 60cm. Its perfect for carrying, but more than one is burden some

    17. At the time of deciding my first doll, all I had to compare was what I had real-life exposure to: MSD girl and and SD boy. I thought the SD was too big and that MSD was a great size so that's what I got!

Then I got a girl SD (Delf) and it made my MSD (MNF) feel so small and fragile...but I really like it because it's not as big as the SD boy that I've seen.

I feel like anything smaller than MSD is too small and anything larger than SD girl is too big. I guess that's my preferred range.

    18. Not so much size.... as I really only like anthros and they are all about the same size :P I did want one of the slightly larger ones though :)

    19. I have always liked small dolls, so I assumed SD's were too big for me.
For some reason I overestimate these bjd's size, even with exact measurements. So, my first was this teeny weeny tiny, who is light as a feather in my hands. Almost too small.
My second is an SD and MAN she is just the right heaviness and size seems quite right too.

If a meet-up was an option before buying my dolls, I would have gladly taken the option rather than guessing my way through. (Even though I like both of my dolls very much and strangely, they go well together.)

...a mini sounds fun though.. :)

    20. My first bjd was a tiny, I bought her 'cause I thought that SD will be too much big for me, but...
I seen a SD and now I have one too >.<
