How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I don't have a doll yet but over all I prefer SD sized. I mean I'm just so facinated of how big they are and I think there size is perfect for me (I'm 5'6) so I think its not a problem of how big they are. But I think you should go with the one you love most, not by the size. :)

    2. The majority of my dolls are MSD sized (I have a Narae in that size BTW). to me they are the perfect size, if I could only own one kind, it would be Mini. Not too big, not too small. Definately not Barbie size, but not like a small scary person either!

    3. I originally started with an SD sized large gril 57cm luts. She was way too big.

I have since gotten both MSD and tiny dolls. I find tiny dolls are great for bringing multiples to meetups and are so portable to take on day trips. They are my preferred size range

The MSD size is great if you want slightly larger than barbie and are easy to find outfits for as a few companies such as Tonner makes similar sized doll clothes. They are the perfect size if you prefer more mature girls

    4. Um. A couple factors decided that for me. :) Firstly, I wanted something big enough to work with (ie: clothes, detail art, etc), and something big enough to hug. When I saw my firt 60cm+ BJD, I thought "Oh, wow!" because they weren't too big for me to handle, and they weren't too small.

Also, with the bigger dolls you find that they look more mature in the face. ;)

    5. I have one tiny at home, and two approximately 60cm dolls on the way. I have seen the full range of sizes in person, though. My next purchase will be either SD or MSD sized, most likely.

Maybe it's because I've collected stuffed animals all of my life, but I have no problem with collecting whatever appeals to me, regardless of size. I'm not really setting out to have a unified, family look to my dolls, so I figure I'll just buy whatever sculpts I like, and worry about my finances, rather than matching. It also helps that I own a house, and live alone except for a couple of pets. Space for whatever I want :)

    6. i first thought minis would be really big (like american girl, considering there size) and sd would be HUGE but i was disappointed by size they did not seem huge at all, heck i saw ahound he seemed, well kinda small. i realize now when i handle my mini it seems kinda large, so i guess i kinda was right. oh and the reason i choose msd size is that thats what unoas are *shrugs* might have one or two tinies, i want one at least

    7. So far I've just got two 60cm dolls, but I have plans on getting a couple of MSD sized ones in the future. =3 (As well as a few more SD sized ones XD; )

    8. I haven't gotten my doll yet, but I'll be ordering an MSD :3 I liked how they weren't too big for me to carry around, but they still look mature.

    9. My first doll was an MSD and I bought a small doll because (and I am ashamed to say this) she was cheaper. I regretted it and in the end I sold her. I love the size of SD's. They are the perfect size and perfect weight. Now I'm buying Unoas though and they are really small, I think I like the sizes in different ways since Unoas are so detailed and yet so tiny and... shoot, I don't have a proper answer -_-

    10. first i was in love with only sd sized dolls, and i was savoing for one. then i took a look on MNF, a lil bit smaller, but kinda way cheaper! so I got a MNF Shushu first. now i have her, and it seems as if the sd sized dols are too big for me @_@.

i never thought this could happen to me

    11. Whatever tickles my fancy ^_^ I like a variety, and it's easier to pop my Kkotmu into a bag or purse than my CP Miyu, haha!

    12. I was pretty set on getting an SD at first, but I fell in love with an MSD. I guess I don't really base it off size, just how much I like a mold.

    13. I decided to go for the dolls that would go best with my wider doll collection so that helped me limit my dolls to MSD sized and smaller only. Now the problem is there are so many MSD and tiny BJDs out there to love!

    14. MSD 4 me : D ......i like the fact that there smaller,so even though i really like some sd molds i decided not to get one because i dont think like i could deal with the size to own
like hounds XD gorgeous but to big 4 me...
      So MSDs tickle my fancy

    15. oh and minis are cheaper, plus im just about 5' it would be wird if someone was to like see me holding a mecha angels :P

    16. When I first got into BJDs, I wasn't attracted to the younger sculpts of the MSDs. I suppose you could say I defaulted to the larger dolls simply because they had the mature looks I preferred.

    17. My first doll was an MSD-sized bebe and she worked out wonderfully for me....but now I got three SDs and I am ADDICTED to their size! Sure, they are harder to travel with, etc. but there are was more impressive to me. And easier to manage....my MSD I can balance in one hand....I really like having a big boy and girl to tote around!

    18. Well ive collected this type of doll (not that i see them as dolls really ) off and on for two years now and in the first place i had the tinys which i find heartmelt adorable and i still have a super soft spot for them then i had MSD size along with them...and although theyre so lovely etc i was able to part with them pretty easily...now im back and activly needing again im going straight for the top end of the scale i want big..so they can sit properly on my sofas and have "impact" when people come around!!!

    19. Hello, everyone.

I'm curious to know why and how you chose the size of your doll(s).

You see, I originally bought a SD13 long-leg boy, and I enjoy his company. Then I bought a SD boy, and I find myself enjoying a smaller size doll, since theyre easier for me to handle, dress, and pose. I enjoy having my SD boy stand on my palm as I balance him. I cant do that with my SD13 long-leg boy.

I originally planned on having two long-leg SD13 boys and one SD, but I find myself feeling more comfortable with a SD (and maybe even a MSD) doll. Now, Im thinking of putting my School A on a SD instead of a SD13 body, and changing my youngest character from a SD10 Kun boy into a MSD Myu boy. Now, Im just concerned that I have to find more clothes for the SD boys, since Volks doesnt release as much for their SD boys compared to their SD13s. :sweat

So if you have ever switched sizes or are thinking of doing so, then what are you reasons? What are you concerns? Have you switched an existing character from one size to another? How did that go for you?

    20. Hi, Daniel!

My wife and I have several sizes, from tiny LatiDoll White Aiko to SD16 Phoenix. Know what? We love 'em all!
