How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. Ok, so here's my dilemma.

I really like Kizdoll Saiy, and he's perfect for a character I have in mind. However, he's 63cm and I don't think I want any more SD sized dolls apart from him, and the rest of the characters are either MSD or tiny sized (but the tinies are toddlers/young children, so they're allowed to be small) I'm wondering if he'll fit in really badly. And wether that would bother me. Being mainly photographed with my other dolls in photostories, the characters are all in-human (elves and whatnot) so I could say he's part giant.

      What would you do?

Also, do you guys ever have these kinds of doll dilemmas? How do you deal with them?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this in, as I am pretty new and despite having read the rules I don't quite get how it all works yet.

      Anyway, thankyou!

    2. My favourites are those that appeal to me in some way. Size doesn't seem to matter. :-)

    3. All the dolls I've been most attracted to so far have been SDs, so that's what I'm planning on getting. I prefer more realistic looking dolls and I just haven't found any I like in the smaller sizes. All the characters living in my head at the moment are adults, though if I come up with a child character I may look at other sizes.
That said, I do occassionally struggle to resist the call of limited SOOM tinies. ^_^ If I decide to start collecting fantasy and non-human dolls I will definitely branch out into different sizes, but at the moment I have limited funds and need dolls that will work together.

    4. My first doll is 27cm and that seems to be a good size for me; the really big dolls make me a little nervous. If things go well when my Benny gets here, I may stay in the MSD to tiny range.

EDIT: I picked her because I liked her the best. Size technically didn't matter because she fit what I was looking for. She's comparable to the familar Barbie in height, so I didn't have to adjust to size difference terribly much. The fact that clothes and wigs are easily obtained for the size is a plus. I only have to look for shoes.

    5. I plan on owning dolls from yo-SD up to 65cm dolls. They're not part of the same storyline, really, so I keep the ones who need to be together the same size. Tinies smaller than yo are just a little too tiny for me, especially since I would probably have a tendency to lose them ^_^;; Any bigger than 65cm though is just too big for my barely 5'3" (if even that!) frame. I've held an EID boy with the superhero body and was shocked with how heavy he was... I couldn't carry that around, and I like carrying my dolls. Not to mention that 90cm AoD boy who STANDS TO MY HIPS D:

    6. I was wondering if anyone found having one of each size awkward? I'm looking to buy my first doll and like a couple MSDs and a few SDs. My two favorites are an MSD and then an SD and if I eventually got both..wouldn't it be strange to hvae one small doll and one tall one? I know many people own MSDs and SDs both but usually they have two or more of each. Does anyone own just one MSD and one SD and/or a tiny doll? Do you find it odd that your few dolls have such a size gap?

Also I heard it's easier to find clothes/wigs for SDs then any other, is this true?

    7. I'll be honest, the only doll I have now is a SD. I didn't pick the size, as it used to be my friends who happened to grow board with him. She's bad about that when it comes to everything but her car... I do love his size though, and because he's my first, my friends little ladys (MSDs) seem a little to light for me. The next doll I plan on getting will be a SD7, because I would feel guilty if this specific character didn't have penis parts... besides, Cycas is a hotty... Because of his size, I have several other boy dolls who will be SD7s because these characters cannot be dwarfed by his height. I'm not so worried about it with buying girls...

    8. From my experience, I believe, yes, SD size clothes are more common than other doll clothes because they have been around a lot lounger. Volks, one of the earliest pioneering companies in making bjds focused more attention on the SD line and later the SD13 line. Other companies later came on similar with SD doll sizes and it became easier to get clothes.

    9. I see, it makes sense that SD is more common. But does that mean it's hard to find things for MSDs? Or just easier for SDs?

    10. I went with 1/3 size as it's the largest common size. Part of me would love to get (or make) a 1/2 or 1/1 size BJD though...

    11. I don't decide, I just get the doll I want regardless of size. I don't have a plan or story going on or anything so I'm not bound to things like such doll needs to be such size to fit in. I suppose cost of said doll helps decide whether it is worth it for it's size, like "do I get a really expensive tiny or could I for that price get a mini or larger sized doll for the same?", but size of it initially doesn't really come into it.

    12. I thought about size a lot before I got m boy, but there was this head scult that I fell in love with and I just ended up buying one of the 60 cm dolls. Plus, I tend to find more interest in the larger dolls because they suite my style more than the smaller ones. Something about the 60 cm head molds really draws me in. But I also do not like the very large dolls like 70 cm, because I think they might be too large.

    13. OMG!!!!! I'm not alone!!!! :D
I would SERIOUSLY love a 1/1 doll and am currently thinking about getting one of Angel of Dreams 1/2 dolls for a character I have who is supposed to be ginormous. Do you know any other company who sells 1/2 dolls? *cough cough*

    14. Before I purchase a doll, I will consider the doll's make-up and design, so size is not a big problem to me.

    15. I, personally, don't have dolls at the moment, but my first one is going to be large. Iplehouse's basic Luo (Boy, what I wouldn't have given for one with the strongman tanned skin, though. ><). I fell in love with the sculpt and that was more important than size. He's going to dwarf my room one day, but he'll be worth it. I'm prepared to make room for him in the far off day I have money for him. XD

Though, I am also considering a Puki, because those little things look SO FREAKING cute! Most of them that I've seen just look so happy that I can't help but "Daw!" over them.

    16. The only way of deciding on a size is by physically handling different sized dolls. I feel my favorite size is MSD and this is based on my different experiences with dolls of varying sizes. I feel SDs and higher were too large for my liking although I also liked YOSD sized dols, the lack of detail in their sculpts was offsetting.

    17. Don't know of any myself I'm afraid. I've decided though that if I was to start making BJDs, I would definitely have to make a 1/1 to take to conventions and the like. It would definitely get people talking!;)

    18. Yeah, I've decided I'm just going to buy whichever one I like just for the design (with a little influence from the price) and not worry about sizing :) Thanks for the help!

    19. At first, I wanted to go large because I thought it would be awesome to have a mini person in the corner of my room (except when I wake up in the morning and it's the first thing I see), so my first doll was 62 cm. However, my second doll was 41 cm because size was no longer a factor once I had my first. After getting my Bory, I realized that I like smaller scaled dolls better. Easier to carry. Easier to pose.

    20. Recently I got 1/3,1/6 and 1/12 sized dolls, I think my decision just depends on the face of each doll which really attracts me.Besides, I never buy 1/4 dolls because its very difficult to buy 1/4 sized outfits I think....
