How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. My first boy was an MSD and I got a Tiny after him, intending her to be his child.

However I went to a doll meet and I saw soo many SDs... I fell in love with them. It might seem like they'd be freakishly large, but when you see one in person and see how detailed they can be in comparison to a MSD, its really shocking.

    2. I guess the actual doll comes first, like me falling in love with the face, then I find out about the size.

    3. For me, I know it was partially an issue on price and partially about what size I could comfortably sew clothes for. MSDs just happened to fit well. I've gotten Yo-SDs as younger siblings with my MSDs as older teens/younger adult characters and so far it's worked out well for me. I don't think SDs would work well for me, mainly because I'm a rather short person, so having such a big doll would only make me seem smaller by comparison.

    4. I actually wanted an MSD originally, mostly because I am very small, and felt like an SD would be too big compared to me (the taller one's being almost half my size)
however, I just had to fall madly in love, so I ordered a smallish SD (Junir Delf, I guess they're considered SD with their 56 cm?)
So I guess that's the size I will mostly stick to. My future dolls will probably be bought to suit him, I even already know that the next one will be an Iplehouse... although I will have to see which mold I want to get ^^

    5. I'd prefer something around 45cm, but I absolutely love Migidoll Ryu. He only comes in 60cm so I'd happily buy him regardless! (If I had the money.)
I guess it just depends on what you'd prefer. A bigger one seems better for details and possibly photos too. A smaller one just seems more convenient for carrying around. I wouldn't know anything about how clothes add into the mix, but like I said, it seems like it's pretty much preference.

    6. Dunno if I already posted here. O 3O

I chose an MSD for my first doll because they're smaller, but not too small. I just thought it would be easier, less expensive, and I could easily handle it and what not. Also, I could get used to it! xD

    7. I'm a fan of SDs and similar sizes. I like the fact, that this size isn't THAT hard to sew for. From childhood I've always dreamed about a big dollie, so I ended up with SD. If my plan will work, probably it will be size of all of my dolls. Or maybe I'll have a few MSDs too, but for now I don't feel strong need for it.

    8. I started with MSDs, and honestly most of any future dolls will be as well. They're less expensive. They take up less space. Furniture is easier to find for them (I'm lookin' at you, American Girl... *wink*). And they're super simple to carry around (Of course, I'm a pansy and have a luggage cart jerry-rigged for them).

However, my next doll I want to be SD size. He's gonna by my Ty-Ty Baybee. Tyler is a character that I've been developing for about half of my life. So he needs to be bigger and have more pressence! :D And the fact that is from a different universe entirely from Syd and Ernst, allows me to make this decision. Otherwise, I just wouldn't be able to deal with the scale diff. Ahahaha. Plus, it's easier to find/make clothes for SD Size.

    9. I like the MSD size. 45cm (or about 16 inches) seems perfect for me. Not too big and not too small. Though, I think in time I might have to get a Puki, they are tiny but so cute!

    10. At the moment I'm all about tinies. It may sound strange but I'm kind of scared of any doll above 30cm. I've only seen one once in real and she seemed really scary. Maybe I like that the tinies don't look that "real"? I don't know.

    11. It was an issue of price for me mostly. Originally I planned to get an SD one, but then when I started adding on the extra costs it just seemed too much, and so I ended up choosing a MSD size one. However, I think when I order another doll I'll probably get the MSD size again, as it just seems right to me, and most of the sculpts I really like are that size. I also think I'll prefer to have all my dolls the same size so they...match.

    12. I didn't want something too big or too small, but when I found Fairyland Littlefee I loved their faces so I got one. She is 25cm tall, small enough to carry around but big enough to sew for!

    13. I don't have any dolls yet, but I have decided that I would like to get an SD first. I think that most of the larger dolls have a more mature look. Paticularly Soom.

    14. At first, my intentions were not to go by size, but what I loved when I saw a head sculpt. Then I realized some of them can be so tiny. Like my hamsters I used to have, I'd always be terrified of crushing a minifee or a tiny! Being a really tall person makes everything so much smaller.

Although, at some point I will be getting a tiny or minifee, just to prove to myself I have nothing to fear. When I'm all done (if ever) with getting dolls, they'll be various sizes. I have to say, the larger ones are easier to hand sew clothes for! The barbie and smaller are a pain.

    15. I chose and MSD because it seemed like a way to ease me into the hobby. Then I fell in love the homme kirill sculpt so it worked out. I will most likely have atleast on SD in the future but I think that anything smaller than an MSD would be too small for me. :3nodding:

    16. I wanted a doll that in no way could I lose him if I set him down amongst a pile of stuff....

I have a sort of reverse OCD. if there aren't toys and books and pillows and whatnot strewn about I get nervousand I have to make a mess. I mean, I never let dishes or trash pile up (god forbid), but I'm more comfortable if the couch only has the seat coushins and a throw pillow on it, while the other coushins are arrayed about the floor. it also makes the kids I babysit more comfortable too....

the downside is that small things tend to get lost very easily.

    17. I knew I wanted to start out with SD even though MSD really called to me as well. I wanted the larger size because of the less childish faces. I had full intention of trying out anything YoSD or bigger eventually. I just went with what I was most familiar with for doll sizes, what suited the majority of my characters age range, etc. So far I love YoSD, MSD and SD, it's just finding a doll that's not too thin or light or too meaty and heavy lol.

    18. Lets see... I think the whole reason I wanted an SD in the first place was because I fell in love with the sculpt. It was just my luck to choose one of the odd sized Crobi M-line boys. I know in the future though I'm going to end up with an a few MSDs, maybe even a YoSD if I find the right sculpt. c:

    19. I fell in love with 70cm dolls first. Then when I decided to get my doll, it was tough choosing between 65 and 70cm. Went for the doll with the head sculpt I like most - and also considers availability of clothes, shoes and accessories to particular size. I choose SD in the end. :D

    20. I always said nothing bigger than an MSD, they're perfect for transporting and carrying around.... But I may.... At the beginning of next year... End up with an SD. XD I have a desire for one of the big Iple guys, and they're starting this new choice system, so if they have it working well, I might go ahead and get one with my taxes instead of the other doll I was going to get. Maybe. XD Who knows, but I have a serious want for one of those in a lt tan. And they'll be offering it as a choice~! XD
