How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I've always wanted an SD, but price was a problem for my mom, so I had to pick out of the MSDs. But then...

Good ol' Luts sent me the Wintery 09 event head. Mikael's body is currently being shipped! :P

    2. I'm going with msd size. Just because their portable and I'm going to be going to conventions alot with them. Anyways I was also worried they might look "barbie-doll size" but after looking at youtube & youku bjd size comparisons and measuring a barbie, I've found that thier quite a bit bigger. Barbie's are about 11 inches (28 cm) aproximately, and msd is about 16-17 inches (41-43cm). That's big enough for me, I might go SD but I would be sad about leaving them at home all the time. :(

    3. I decided on size by looking at prices, when I bought my boy he wasnt drasticly more expensive then a smaller doll so I decided on him. but mostly I liked him most ^ ^

    4. I am a short person. XD I compared the measurements of dolls to myself and realized that anything larger than MSD would probably intimidate me, let alone be highly difficult to dress, pose, etc. I decided MSD would be my cap size, and, conveniently, almost all of the dolls I fell for fit into that umbrella category. Having just received my first MSD, I must say I made the right choice- anything larger would overwhelm me, but I absolutely adore my new doll. c:

    5. I believe it will be MSDs for me because frankly it's the best option for me at the moment. I want a mature-ish collection (not a bunch of 1-7 yr old dollies as in YoSDs) but really can't afford SDs unless I'd want to save up my entire savings for a year to get one. Not to mention that I'm quite short/small, I'd be rather worried that an SD would be too much to handle so early in my collection...
I would love to have a few SDs later on, but for now MSDs are just more practical all around. :)

    6. I think the first one I got was considered an SD size?? I'm still unsure of the names of all the sizes. First one I BOUGHT was a Senior Delf Howl... but the first one ARRIVING will probably be a Tiny (even though he's not really tiny....), my Pipos Demon. My floating head boy is... lol a floating head. So he is only short right now.

I tend to prefer the larger dolls, when looking at humans... MSD and up at LEAST. I don't like child like dolls or tinies. But with Anthros, because I've been in the furry fandom before, and still draw for it, I prefer tinies and more androgynous or childlike dolls when it comes to anthros. I find them to be more innocent and sweet, cuter. Because of my personal associations with the furry fandom which have been largely negative, I don't want to end up with an anthro doll that someone tells me is sexy D: D: D: (CATS ARE NOT. NOOOOO THEY ARE CUTE)

    7. I've already decided that I don't really want an SD sized doll. my sister has both MSD and SD dolls so i can use that to see the sizes, and i think that for me personally, the SD is a little too big. I feel that i'd have far more fun carrying around and MSD or tiny. I'm not sure if this will change though when i get my first doll, and have it for a while but for now i prefer MSD/tiny sizes, and i already have plans for the ones i would like to purchase.

    8. Well, my story is kind of silly. I was browsin' around for a doll after bashing them and thinking they were dumb and feeling like a hypocrite, and I stumbled across the good ol' Kasi Dan of Dollmore I ramble about all day. To me, he closely resembled the goofy-looking Kuja from the original Final Fantasy IX, my favorite game of all time, and Kuja, being my favorite villain of all time- I was like.
      "Wait a minute here."
So, I wanted as close of a life sized Kuja as I could get. And 75CM is half my height almost exactly (I'm 5'1 and the doll is two and a half feet).
Of course, that wasn't the only reason I wanted him. I want to get him a black wig and do Kuja-esque red eye makeup on him, but that's all cool.
But that's why I chose the size for that doll to be so big. I just feel also that the bigger the better.
I was originally gonna get Dollmore Vian (boy) but then I took out my measuring tape and was like, "43CM- ... wait, that's a little small..."
The three dolls I plan on getting are Vian, boy and girl and Kasi Dan, the non-masterful version.

And that is why I chose the height of my first doll to be as big as I could get.

    9. Well, price is going to probably affect what size I get...But I'm going to try and get an SD size real soon!
I do like tinies but only certain molds...
MSD's are brilliant though! They'll always have a place in my heart!

    10. I decided to buy a 45cm, i find her not so big and not so small, I just grabbed a ruler and saw that she is not like a barbie, barbies are smaller smaller. But if you only like bigger dolls molds i recomend you to buy what you like most.

    11. To be honest, I was totally looking at SD size dolls for my first, and then I bought a minifee on a whim, when a new and perfect face sculpt came out. Having gotten a SD sized doll now, I definitely prefer the smaller size. I found the SD size to be very cumbersome and my arm gets tired very quickly while trying to walk around with it.

In the past I've seen some tinies in person, and was turned off by how simplistic their jointing was, but having now seen what Fairyland has to offer in smaller sizes, I'm currently saving for a pukifee.

    12. I decided to go with the MSD at least to start since I already have other types of dolls in that size and didn't want to be over-whelmed by getting something larger. But now I'm thinking I'm ready to try the SD size.

    13. SD size dolls are the only size i like. I love to customize my girls and SDs have a lot of room :D! I also like the more adult looking dolls because I can easily incorporate them into my stories.

    14. I am nervous about money a lot. So I decided if I got a MSD it would be cheaper to buy clothes for her instead of a 1/3 or up size doll. Sadly, I had not realized finding clothes for her would be so hard! I find so many more SD clothes I like much much more, makes me frustrated in my choice : (. I also wanted to go for something that was more mature. Sure cutesy is nice but I love full figures.

    15. The first doll I bought was a Luts Dark Elf Soo (SD). I was incredibily niave adored the doll and assumed she would be about 10 inches. I bought clothes, wigs etc at the same time and still never twigged.
When she arrived I nearly had a fit, she was a giant!!
She was also incredibily beautiful and after my initial shock I was smitted and bought another.
I now have SDs MSDs and tiny's but will never forget that moment when I first saw her, my expression must have been priceless!!!

    16. I want to start small. MSD size is the right one for me. I think usd is a little too tiny! I want to make my own clothings so size kinda matters...

    17. I liked the SD sized dolls a lot, and I still like them. Their size to me is just perfect. I may eventually get a MSD, but for now it's SD all the way. c:

    18. I picked MSD because the first doll I met was an MSD!

I like the MSD size, because they're little enough to carry around or leave out on the bookshelf. Minoru World came out with a "Junior" size, which is between MSD and YoSD size, and I have two of those Juniors, and I am planning on getting two in a YoSD size. I like them small like that because they are very doll-sized to me.

SDs seem kind of big to me, so I will stick with my minis, juniors, and yos. :) Plus, they're easier to hide when they're small-- my mom only knows about two of my currently four dolls.... heheheh.

    19. My first doll was SD sized because I liked the idea of having a really big doll, and I'm glad I made the right choice. I love SD size, there's something satisfying about carrying a large doll around. My friend has MSDs and they're cute, but I find that I don't like their size very much, but I loved her YoSDs, I have a tiny sized doll now so yea, I love big dolls and tiny dolls, but not the ones inbetween.

    20. Originally, I had made the decision to go with a MSD size -- thought would be a good starting point to begin the hobby -- not too big and not too terribly expensive .... then I saw the Val Zeitler / Haute Doll collection :aheartbea

Completely revamped my idea and am now in the process of buying my second SD with thoughts of an MSD later :)
