How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. My first doll was chosen not on size but how it looked. I didn't like how any of the miniature dolls looked when I first started this hobby. Dolls back then also didn't have the range of mobility they have now. For some reason I had a lot of trouble with minis. Years later Fairyland came along with puki-puki and then Resinsoul came along with their gorgeously sculpted minis.
Again the choice came down to liking how they look more than the size - but with all the choices out today I think I might be favoring the minis. I love that size now!

    2. I've always though SD sized were cool, but I fell in love with an MSD; Size doesn't make a lot of difference to me, anyway, so I'm not too concerned about getting smaller sized girls. ^____^

    3. at first i decided to go with the MSD dolls but when i looked up size comparisons on youtube
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JEhiw8ABJc
i found out what it looks like compared to a person and i immediately changed my mind to SD
because the msd ones looked too small to me and the sd was just in between the 70cm and 40cm mark
and ive read its easier to make clothes for them sence they're bigger

    4. I mostly just buy what I like, but I've made it a goal to get at least one doll of every size. I have a 45cm, and just ordered a 60cm, so now I need to go for the smaller dolls. However, if there isn't a doll I like I'm not going to buy one just for the sake of having it. I have to be attached.

    5. Size didn't really play a role in any of my purchases. I got every doll simply for their sculpt and concept. I started off with a super gem because I loved her face. I don't regret it one bit, but now that I actually sort of have a better idea of just how "big" a bigger doll is, I would suggest to people that they start with a smaller doll. I just got into smaller dolls and when my mini gem arrived, I found it so much easier to handle her. I know that with her I'm not as afraid of stringing and I tote her around a lot. With my super gem it's much harder to do things with her because she's just so large. I'm much more paranoid of taking her out and about. My Nenad has travelled with me between my houses and I also have no problems toting her along in the car and sitting her in all sorts of places. I don't think I'd feel comfortable doing that with my super gem. :) But still, I say go for the sculpt you love. Deal with the size issues later. :-P

    6. The first time I saw BJD's was at a con panel, so I pretty much decided on a 60cm girl after seeing the real thing. I think it would be easier to make clothes and accessories for a larger doll than a small one.
But I also really want a zuzu delf, so I guess I like small ones, too? As long as they're anthro - I don't really like small human ones. No offense, tiny doll lovers! :sweat

    7. I've been an SD fan for ages and I loooooove the big guys; Soom MDs are my absolute favourite and I am lucky enough to own a Soom Sard. My first doll just under 4 years ago was an Iplehouse SooRi and even though I didn't know a lot about dolls, the size just really appealed to me.

However, recently I have developed a real fascination with MSDs since seeing one at a meet-up. I always assumed they were the 'kid' version of SDs more or less with exceptions (Limho Mono etc.) but I loved the more manageable size of them. Now quite a few of the dolls on my list are MSDs simply because I am fascinated to see what the size is like and if I like it more than SDs!

    8. Hard to say, especially since I've only dealt with one doll before I received my own! At first I went for the MSD size simply because I fell in love with the mold--well, that and a friend got a DOC and I figured I may as well get my own DOC as well. After that, I picked an SD for my character simply because of all the various SD molds out there..and then bam, it was love! I've handled 70cm dolls and tinies before, but none of them precisely struck me. If anything, I'm not affected by tinies in general because to me, they all look the same; and 70cms seem too big for me! Granted, I do plan on getting a 70cm doll anyway, but that's because the character is tall and hopefully now that I've been exposed to many other doll sizes, I should be somewhat used to it. MSDs still scream for my attention of course..but I figure my little boy already rules the collection, why ruin that? : )

    9. I like MSD because they are small and light to carry. I only have one full doll, a Dollzone Shoyo (bunny one!) and she is my little sweetie. I wouldn't mind getting more MSD even though I often think the SD have nicer faces. They're just too heavy for me most times.

    10. I only like MSDs. SDs are far too big for me. Every time I have to hold my friend's SDs I feel overwhelmed. They're just too big and too heavy for me. YoSDs are too child like for me. I can't stand anything that resembles children. This only leaves me mature MSDs. That's how I like it. ;) I think that MSDs are the perfect size and there's still enough companies out their that have ones that look like adults.

    11. I have SDs on the way, MSDs and a couple of Yos. The Yos don't get a lot of love from me ( but they have parents ( MSDs) for that. XD )

I enjoy having my MSDs, as they tend to get clothes made from bits of fabric scraps that I have laying around and wigs from spare hair fibers I have everywhere. I admit, I'm not found of anything over about 65cm in height.. and I could maybe handle a 70cm doll... certainly no 1/2 for me.\

As far as decisions for me go, it's all about facial sculpt. If I like the sculpt, I get the doll. Size for me only factors in when it's a really big doll.

    12. I liked the younger looking dolls thats why i got my 43cm but i would love a 60cm!

    13. Most of my dolls are SD sized, my biggest is 65cm. I also have MSD sized dolls and a few Yo sized dolls. I've found that anything smaller than a Yo is too small for me, although I'm currently waiting on a 10cm sized doll! We'll see how that turns out, lol

    14. My first doll was an MSD. I got him because I loved his face and he was in my price range. When I go to conventions it's easy for me to carry him around. I always felt that SDs were too big for me, but recently I found one that I love! I'm saving up to buy him! I will still probably bring my MSD to cons since he's lighter. :kitty2

    15. I usually like MSD because of the amount of clothing & shoes that are available for them.
I ventured out a bit and purchased my first SD doll. It will not be here until July so I should
have plenty of time to "shop";)

    16. I decided on a MSD because it was a familiar size. The larger dolls like SDs freak me out a bit but I'm dreaming of a Dollfie Dream as a birthday present to myself, so I suppose I had best get used to 1/3 sizes. :)

    17. MSD are much more affordable than SDs, and I thought I wanted an SD as my frst doll but after goiung to a measuring tape and seeing that MSD are good size doll. I said MSD will have to my first. I think that in the future I would like at least a pair of SDs a Guy (80cm) and a Gal (60 to 70 cm) (I already have their love story in the works)

    18. Whenever I think of BJD, size SD always comes to mind first for me. I only own MSD and SD dolls because it's my preference. I think that the smaller dolls are absolutely adorable but I just cannot move myself to purchase one. I buy more SD size dolls because, to me, that size sets them apart from all other dolls...PERIOD! ;)

    19. My first doll was an 72cm. I love the big guys!^^'
It is pleasant to me that my doll looks as the small person. It is very pleasant to sit near to him and to hold by the hand.

    20. I looked for the molds I liked, and almost all of them were SD size. Even though I thought SD size was too big, I got them anyway, and I am happy I did. You have to go with the molds you love!
