How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. When I was a newbie in the hobby: my first thought was to have a 60 cm doll, but as the price was too high, I decided to get one of 45 cm. It was still too expensive so I ended up with a tiny.
Now, I'll save up more so I can buy a 45 cm doll. They are much nicer: not too small and not too big.

    2. Well I'm still a beginner and actually it's exactly the same case as Minaide described. I first decided on a 62cm Doll Family doll, which ended up being too expensive so I've now chosen to go with a 43cm Doll Leaves MSD.
I do play in the future to get a large doll, and I don't think that all of them have to match or be the same size. I mean, it's not like you're forced to actually take pictures of all of them in one shot : )

    3. I found a good deal on a sculpt I liked. So now I know I will have at least a couple SD sized dolls.

    4. I started with a tiny little thing (12cm) since I wanted one that I could easily carry everywhere with me for photoshoots. That seemed like the perfect size (not too small, yet not really big). I admit that now I'm interested in buying one that's 20cm+ as well. Namely since it's easier to find clothes for them.

I'm not sure if I'd want one that's 60cm+, but well, you never know. If I liked the sculpt enough, I would surely consider it.

    5. size was the first thing I chose when finding the right doll for me. I went with SD sized, I like the heaviness, and they don't seem very big to me, not creepy like a mannequin. It's also easier to sew for, tiny details being slightly less tiny than for msd or yosd. I like that she is more prominent in my house because of her size. I was even tempted by the Zenith, Model or Super senior Delf size, they don't cost that much more.
Eventually I hope to get a youthful msd to be next to my more mature looking SD girl, but I think SD will always be my favorite size.

    6. when i bought my first doll i had never actually seen or handled a doll in real life only seen them in pics people had taken of their dolls, so my first doll i bough i didnt even know what size it was even though it said so on the site the 45cm next to the mold name really ment nothing to me... to be honest i just picked a doll with a face-up i liked... but now ive seen all ranges of doll sizes and handled them all at some of the many doll meets ive been to with my baby boy dariel (the B&G msd ymir mold that i bought as my first doll) and have found that y some miracle msd really is my favorite sized doll to deal with which is why just moments ago when i finally ordered my second doll he is also an msd!

    7. Eenie, meenie, mainie, mou....Actually it depends upon the sculpt I like and compatible bodies, etc.

My first doll is an MSD out of sheer size practicality; I didn't know how large my living arrangements would be when I got her. Larger dolls are just as fun though in my opinion.

    8. Someone showed me a MSD doll/Dollzone Mo and I instantly bought that doll. I really didnt consider anything about size/etc. I literally just bought the first doll that I saw and liked. I always took out a measuring tape and pulled it out to 45cm when I'm waiting for my first doll but it still doesnt really prepare you when you first got the doll.

I thought I will love the YoSD size because as a small child, I always loved miniature things so when I first got my Yo, I thought he was really cute and easy to carry around. But as time goes by, I found out that I really prefer my MSDs more than my Yo. So I guess I'm all about MSD! I do like Yo size and will get a couple of them in the future, but I think I will still like MSD size the best. SD size will be too big for me to handle, but I really want some of SD sculpts >-<

    9. Ideally I would like to stick to only MSD (I think they are the perfect size) but I wanted ones with mature features (which many MSD didn't have) so that basically bumped me up to the SD sizes, I prefer their face/body mods. If I see a doll I really like then their price doesn't bother me that much....of course I don't think I'll ever be ready to dish out $1000+ for a doll no matter how much I like it.

    10. I mostly look at SD and MSD because its not hard to locate clothes and stuff for them :3

    11. My wishlist consists mostly of MSDs simply for convience. I would love to be one of those "crazy doll ladies" with a lot of resin beauties floating around my house, but the SD size takes up a lot more room. Especially with me getting ready to go away to school, I want to get a doll I can take with me without taking up a lot of space, or not being able to fit in a heavy trunk (so I can lock it away safe and sound when I'm not there to be guard dog). I have some tinies mixed in the list as children compared to my planned MSDs, and my first resin will be a tiny (ordered today!!!). I love the SD dolls, Im just not sure I'd have the room for them.

    12. Well that's actually kind of a funny story. I started out looking at a 65cm boy that I found on ebay. One of my friends had shown me hers and I loved him. After thinking about it though, I had intended to use him as a drawing model (he's turned into much more of a general model for my clothing experiments xD), I decided that a smaller size would be more portable. That's how I decided on my boy. My first boy was also a Christmas gift from my family so part of it was financial too, though less so in retrospect cause the bigger one ended up being cheaper within a month xD

    13. I chose the standard 60cm for my first sculpt. In fact, originally, he was all I intended to have. And I swore I would never get a tiny because their size never interested me... until a certain little tiny caught my eye. XD Now I just have to have him.

So I just buy the sculpts I fall in love with, I suppose. I mean, I used to think 70cm dolls were too tall, and now I'm waiting on a head for one I'll probably end up buying a body for later!

    14. I wanted a big doll, and the stereotypical look on the 60 cm dolls didn't really talk to me, it just was to "normal" :XD: And I saw these 70 cm dolls and I loved the way they look, then I found Chen-1 from DZ and I decided to buy it :)

    15. My first doll will definitelty be SD. I'm not discouraged by the big size and weight. Most molds I love are SD's anyway. However, if I fell in love with any MSD, I won't hesitate to buy him/her.

    16. The size didn't really matter to me, actually. My first doll was a MSD-sized doll. Not because of her height, but because of her mold. Her face was what made me fall in love with her. I had to have HER. Her size didn't matter.
Personally, I think MSD size is great. She's big, but not overly huge, and I find lots of clothes for her.

    17. At the beginning I didn't really pay attention to sizes, I just looked at the sculpts, trying to find out what I liked and what not. Since the tinies appealed to me the most, I thought Pukifees, Pukipuki and Lati Yellows would be the perfect size for me. But then I took a closer look at the Littlefees (or any Yo-SD, actually), and I loved that size just as much.
Now that I have one LTF and one PKF as my first dolls ever, I really don't think I'll go any bigger than Yo-SD, that would be too expensive and would take up too much space.
Plus, finding clothes for them is easy enough and the clothes for the bigger sized would cost more and I don't really want to pay the same price that I would for clothes my own size.
I really enjoy looking at other peoples' Minifees, though, I'll never get one...

    18. Hrm...here's how I did it.

At first, I wanted a SD because I thought it would be really cool to have a big doll like this((I only had like Barbie sized when I was little). But then when I looked around at all the dolls, and thought about heat I wanted, I decided on MSD. Why? Well....I realized that most SDs appear older in age/more mature, just as tinies are very young in age. I found tht I ended up liking the cuteness of most MSDs instead. ^^ ((what I was looking for was very specific >>;; ))

    19. I had a Goldilocks method when I had actually started paying attention to the sizes, but I had always gravitated towards the 40-ish cm sculpts in the first place. I felt that the SDs were too big, and the Yo-SDs too small. MSD seemed just right~ :)

    20. I think it is easier to customize a larger doll...the sewing is easier, as is the face-up. Plus, there such a presence in a larger doll than with the smaller ones, in my opinion.
