How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I actually bought one of each size xD first found a tiny girl I liked, bought her, loved the size, but didnt really bond as much as I'd hoped. Found an SD girl I liked, brought her home, didn't like the size at all even though i loved her sculpt. Found an MSD girl I loved, brought her home, loved everything ^^

    2. Actually I think the mold chose me. Originally I liked SD Sizes, but I couldn't find a scuplt that was the one. I found a MSD that I absolutely loved that was in my price range, and It really worked for me.

    3. I seem to favor certain Tiny's. My daughter pointed that out to me. It could be partly due to how careful we must be with the larger dolls, due to the investment and how delicate they are. I'm used to painting very small figurines, so doing the face-up for my up and coming first puki seems a comfortable idea.

I also like the wee dolls for ease of transportability. Pocket pets, ya know?

    4. I'm more MSD oriented :3
My dream doll and the doll that got me into BJDs is MSD.
SDs are a bit too big for my taste. I'm 150 cm tall and it kinda scares me that I'm a tiny bit taller that two SDs together...
When I first met BJDs I got to meet all sizes. When posing for photos the SDs were far too tall for my taste, they're heavy and hard to carry around everywhere. The pukis were so fun to pose, they fit everywhere! I would be afraid of having one though, dropping it, losing it and such, and they seem hard to sew for, I dunno just not big enough for my taste really. Most YoSDs were kinda childish looking body wise which was fine but I didn't want to be limited to those characters... so... MSDs! The pukis were a bit too light as well, weight wise the YoSDs were the best but for a little extra weight and bit bigger proportion, I settle for MSDs. They seemed a bit big at first when measuring, I kept thinking 40cm is HUGE. When I got to carry two of them around at a meet, they fit perfectly into my arms :3

    5. For me, bigger is better! Bigger dolls have more "presence" for me, and the vast majority of mine are 60cm/70cm. MSD size is okay, but I just prefer larger dolls overall. I can't really rule it out, but I don't really forsee myself getting a YoSD...

    6. I just go for the mold I extremely like.
Extremely like, for like at least a few weeks.

As for the size in general:
I think I'm not gonna have a big doll like Dollmore's Dahlia, ever. It's just too big and realistic child-like. Also I don't wanna own a itsy-bitsy 5 cm doll, either.

      ~
Soon I'm gonna have three boys, in each size: SD, MSD, and Yo-SD
so I'm alright with that, as long they look good together, as for they have also different ages.
      ~

I think it's difficult to have a bunch of minifee's who look pretty adult standing next to 70cm dolls~ but as long as the owner doesn't mind... ;)

    7. I like them bigger I guess. ;D

I've had all sizes but the bigger ones are the ones who are staying majoritivly. My first was a 70cm, and I'd like more taround that size I guess!

    8. Intuition! ... Maybe?
I just... sort of knew I liked larger dolls. From seeing owner picture and watching box openings on youtube I suppose. They just seemed to 'fit'. The size I like best is a smaller large doll. Like my Zaoll. So, in the 52-60 cm range. I just like the fullness you get with short SDs as opposed to the more slender MSDs.
      c:

    9. Size, availability, versatility, character of the sculpt... Plus, I have a bit of paranoia of dolls coming to life and wanting me dead for whatever reason, ha.

    10. Well Emily is an SD because she was going to be my muse/book character and have a husband, well the guy I wanted was an SD so that narrowed me down a lot. Sadly the character and doll thing went belly up and now Emily has her own story. I like the way SD's feel. I'm a tall person (6ft) so a bigger doll helps me know I won't brake her. Even though I'm now getting an yo-SD to be her little sister and such, I still like the size of an SD, just the little one will be able to go EVERYWHERE with me... much to the groaning of my boyfriend. I do want other size dolls, just SD's are the 'adults' while everything else has their place.

    11. I like msd size, theyre not too big and not too small, so it's not difficult to make their clothes like it would be a puki or something. I also really like the sculpts. I've only held a sd, and he was huge! i don't think I could ever get one, they kind of scare me. T_T

    12. I prefer 1/6 because it's the size I'm most used to, it's an easy scale to work with, you can find lots of accessories in that scale, and a "tiny" doesn't take up a whole bunch of room. I wouldn't have room for an SD at this point.

    13. For some reason, I just want large dolls. (60 cm +) ^^

Maybe its because I like the more mature faces and bodies, or just the feel of being able to carry them around.

The smaller ones are very cute, but they just don't attract me as much, personally.

    14. My daughter did introduce BJD's to me with an MSD, so that would be my second choice, except for my pocket book ;) I don't sewing teeny little puki clothes will be a problem (says the lady whose eyes seem to get tired very easily). Mind you, I paint figurines that are 1 - 2 1/2 inches tall...

    15. Well I wanted dolls to whome I could probably try and make some clothes so not too small. I decided first that MSD would be a good size for me, not too big nore too small. BUT my first girl ended up being SD and I wouldn't change her size for anything. My second doll was petite XD and I like her size as well. Third one will be MSD and probably all the dolls after this, will be MSD. One reason is also the price, MSD is cheaper then SD. And somehow I feel as though many SD dolls would take so much space. So With MSD I can get more dollies :P

    16. A good friend of mine who got me into BJDs let me play with each of her dolls a little. Her MSD was the most attractive to me (not really sure why), but she then pointed me to the DenverDoll site (where she got hers) and I found a doll I fell in love with.

The boy I'm hoping to get is on the larger side (50 cm range), so I'm not really *opposed* to having bigger dolls. I just like the MSDs because I can carry then on one arm- sitting up, back against my upper arm, shoes in my hand. Less risk of dropping them that way!

    17. I always thought that I would like mini to MSD size dolls, so I bought an inexpensive doll at about 24cm to get a feel. I do like the size. I find that anything taller than 44cm is a bit too much for me. I even considered building an "orphanage" of LatiYellows and PukiFees.

But then I found a beautiful SD size doll and realized that I wanted my first doll to be an SD. She might be the only SD I will ever own... or she might end up needing sisters... but either way the deciding factor was her realism. She is one of the few realistic dolls that I have ever liked.

And I view her as a piece of art that I will give life to.

    18. I didn't really decide, I just brought home the doll I fell in love with, which happened to be a SD xD
I have two SD's and one tiny, saving up for another SD and a MSD, so it's various really. I do have a tendency to fall easier for SD sized dolls, though xD

    19. The first two dolls I bought, the reason I picked their size was because I loved their faces :D it was conincidence that they were both the same size. But I just ordered two more and one is really small compared to them and another who is really big compared to them :D So I guess I don't have a size preference haha

    20. I'm really into sewing and embellishing clothes, so I was drawn to the larger dolls (60-70cm) immediately. The larger bodies make it easier to sew clothes for them (at least in my opinion) and you can put more detail in said clothes.

I also just like the face sculpts of the larger dolls more :L
