How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I went through alot of MSD dolls because I didnt want to handle such big dolls, I couldnt imagine being very careful with something so large and heavy and so denied myself any bigger dolls. But then one day I realised I really drooled after big dolls and then clothes you could get for them, they had a more mature look I really didnt get from MSDs, so I started over and for three years now I have kept with SDs, I cant imagine going back to MSD, but I do like some mature tinies and own one. I think I like mature looking dolls in general so SDs are the ones for me. Plus I prefer making clothes for bigger dolls.

    2. well i didn't i fell in love with their faces. Honestly now i've had all the sizes almost I find I love Tinies to work with in photos and Super Gem is nice too. But Tinies are addicting

    3. I ordered my first two dolls in 63cm and 45cm - one reason was that they had my favourite faces/bodies and the second was that I want them to be sisters. I bet they will look absolutely fabulous together!

    4. I was originally drawn to the bigger size, but talked myself down to MSD after rationalizing that not only the doll but all of it's accessories would be more cost effective. I do admit that I still want to get a biggie some day.

    5. I like the bigger size dolls especially ones around 59cm range and under 70cm (for boys and girls) and any bigger than that becomes difficult for me to handle. I like to have a doll in certain range or I call it "the average" range for a doll to customize because too big can be hard to find clothes for (even though I can make it) and too little can be difficult especially if I want to make a specific/detail dress or top. I know all BJD's are very nice but sometimes certain sizes becomes too difficult for me to handle so I tend to go for sizes that matches my capability : D.

    6. I figured that I'd get a tiny doll first (Pukifee) to see if I liked BJD's at all and to know how it feels to own one. I do want bigger dolls, but feel like I need more experience and maturity in this hobby to be able to handle the bigger dolls I want. The dolls I want are all pretty complex dolls and would take a lot of time and commitment that would be too overwhelming for now. Other people may view this differently but I feel like I'm just not ready yet to take on an SD!

So for now, I'm taking it a step at a time and I added a Littlefee to my collection. An MSD might be next and after that I really do want my Dollstown girl!

    7. I decide to get the SD for the I'm-A-Cute-Teen-Boy look thing. I was going to get MSD boy look to young, but the girls are soo cute, and i think I like them better than some of the SD girls! ^-^

    8. I went with a bigger doll cause it was the first time I ever saw, and I wanted one that would fit in my arms and be impressive. and Im so glad I did!

    9. When I first go into bjd I did a lot of research and felt a an SD was way too big at the same time I didn't like the childlike apperiance of tinies so I decided to get a MSD because they were a managable size and more adult looking.

    10. I don't really like bigger dolls. They're too big for me - I have a 60 cm doll and I'm probably going to sell her. She sits in a box in a closet now and never comes out. I like the medium-sized dolls, around 40 cm, but I'm not a fan of how they mostly all look like 12 year olds (I know there are some exceptions, but not many compared to the very child-like faces - I like really realistic mature faces) sooooo I'm making my own. :)

    11. I like the smaller dolls. I have a YoSD, which I find to be a great size. I'd also like to get some tinies. Maybe a MSD would be ok, but SD is too big for me.

I knew I wanted a doll with a more child like sculpt, so the YoSDs were the best choice for me.

    12. I think that, at least for a fist doll, that a full 60cm doll would be too much for me to handle. The place I'm currentlly living is too cramped for them, they would have no perch to sit upon! :( I would be too afraid that they would get knocked over or dammaged too easily, or that my four roomates wouldnt respect them enough to even tell me if they damaged my baby.

A YO-SD would probablly get lost in all of the mess, never too be seen again! I know I would loose all of their clothing in said mess.

I've looked at the MSD and thought that 40 some cm was a good middle groud, big enough to play with, small enough to fit. But getting to see some dolls inperson at a doll meet just confirmed my suspicion. Seeing an MSD next to YO-SDs and SDs just showed me how diffrent they were, espcially when i was able to hold them. Don't get me wrong, eventually I'll most likely get one of each (at least), but at this point im not ready for anyone but an MSD.

    13. I knew i wanted an SD size doll just because they have a stronger presence. I think it is the biggest size i would ever get though haha. They take a lot of energy to handle, but they do demand attention

    14. When I was first getting into the hobby, I was a bit hesitant to start out with a bigger doll, but I didn't outright think that I definitely wanted an MSD size. It just happened that I happened to fall in love with an MSD first. :)

    15. I eventually bought one of each size and figured out the size I like best, though I still have ones in other sizes. :chocoberry
I try not to choose solely by size, but I know definitely that doll sizes 26cm and smaller don't work well with me.

    16. I like the smaller size, but ended up with a larger doll then I wanted because his face mold was perfect for the character I was going for. Eventually I plan to buy some small dolls, just so they will be easier to carry around. I don't know, I think if you love the doll size shouldn't really matter . . . unless ou are trying to pair it up with another. Lol.

    17. i didn't really *pick* a size, i pick dolls that represent my characters. some of my characters are adults so they are SD sized, and some are kids so they are MSD sized. then i have tiny tinys [5.5in/14cm] that are my little fairys :) so far, the MSD sized are the most convenient size but I love all my dolls regardless of size

    18. I just got the dolls that were for sale and I love them both.

    19. My first doll was MSD sized...but not for any particular reason. My second doll was 70 cm, because I thought I'd like a big doll, but it turns out, I can't, so I got another MSD, then a couple of tinies. I don't think I'll ever buy another doll over 45 cm, and I only have one more MSD planned. I really only want more tinies, now.

    20. Still a good topic, now matter how old :) I went for SD - had yellow Lati's then sold them years ago. Then just decided I wanted a bigass doll, so went with Peakswoods SD. Love her!
