How Did You Decide Size?

Apr 9, 2007

    1. I like having a variety of sizes, so I selected my favorite mold in each gender and size when I picked out my dolls. So, my collection includes a 70cm giant and (I will soon have) a 20cm LaTi yellow. The ones I play with change depending on my mood, whether I want to play with a big one or a tiny. That way, I can take a different one with me depending on what I'm doing.

    2. 1. Sculpt. I prefer older older dolls with a certain look. At the time (2004) the MSDs were all more childish-looking. The styles of sculpts I liked were all SD-sized.

      2. Clothing choice. At the time, there was more variety of styles available in the SD size. Also more mature-looking clothes.

      3. Larger size. For some reason, I felt like if I was going to spend so much on a doll, I might as well have something BIG to show for it! I like the larger presence. I like the more mature look.

--Of course, now there are minifee versions of my favorite sculpts! I have to admit I'd be tempted if I were coming into the hobby now. But I love my SD-sized dolls and will stick with them! They are a lot less easy to haul about, but being easy isn't everything. :)

    3. although i'm only getting my first doll in about a month, i knew right away that i wanted one that was at least 60cm. i draw alot and wanted to use him as a model. and since bigger doll means bigger details, it was the only way to go. :)

    4. I've known ever since I first got into the hobby that I wanted 60cm dolls, but I also knew that someday I would want smaller dolls too. Sure, I prefer large dolls, but there's some Minis and Tinys that I would love to have!

Though I'm not really sure why I've always prefered large dolls...

    5. At first, I wanted 2 MSD sized, 2 SD sized and maybe a tiny, because I want my collection to be balanced- but I keep wanting more and more MSDs- more than any of the other sizes I was considering XD; I generally like their mold better... Right now I only have 1 MSD sized girl, my wishlist, though also containing a few SD sized dolls and one or two tinies, is pretty much MSD-sized dolls dominated.

    6. I like MSD sized dolls.
The big ones are pretty, but I find them too big and not as handy as the MSD sized.
I don't like the little ones (20-26cm) because they look too much as little children.

    7. Well my first doll was a large doll.. at least that was the first one I ordered. The first doll I received was a mini doll. Once I got my large sized one I realized it was waaaay too big for me. I do like tinies too :) but minis are now my favorite size (easier to handle and less weight) the only good thing about large is better clothing options and more details in the sculpting

    8. I don't like any particular sculpts in MSDs, so naturally I went with whatever I liked in the 1/3 variety. Though there are some cute dolls that are smaller, I've never been quite interested enough to actually purchase one. The size just doesn't seem worth it to me. I like them big!

    9. I am attracted to the MSD size. I have my first one on order and I thought it would be a good way to step into this hobby and see how I like it since MSD are more affordable than SD dolls. I have seen some wonderful SD molds, and I may consider one in the future. Meanwhile I am eagerly waiting for my MSD to arrive. I make teddy bears ranging from 2" to 19" and the MSD size just looks like it would fit in nicely with my bear collection.

    10. I love huge dolls, so naturally I went for the Super Dollfie! I actually have other dolls bigger than my BJDs, haha:lol:

      Sera~

    11. I don't like how giant and heavy most SDs are. To me, MSD is perfect "doll" size. I want a tiny or two, but the majority of my dolls will always be MSD. Some of my friends keep trying to tempt me with various SD molds, but 1)I can't justify that much money and 2)again, big and heeeeavyyyyy...

    12. I think the overall impression of having such a huge doll, made me want a SD. I wouldn't have minded getting a mini, and in fact my first doll was a mini (little fair AR Dana) but I always wanted a bigger doll and just couldn't afford it. I don't know, it's hard to say because both sizes have good and bad qualities. I would say I prefer SD size though. For some reason the SD size is just more appealing because it seems more Taboo and unusual then a smaller doll (IMO). I remember before I had ever even seen a SD in person and just thinking how huge they must be made me so excited for some reason. Like, "how big are they in person, how heavy are they" and "it must be so cool to own such a big doll!" I think that aspect of it made me lean towards the bigger sizes in the end.

    13. How did I decide...? Hmm... Well, mostly it was that the first doll I ever fell so helplessly in love, gotta-get-him with just happened to be a mini. I fell for his face, not his size. But because he was mini, the rest have been/will be in suit.

      Though I have since then also fallen for and gotten one of the Dollshe boys, and I must say the difference is incredible. .>_> The big guy is a brute to try to carry around. So needless to say, he'll be my only SD+ size, and probably won't get out nearly as much as the little guys. .^^;

    14. Most of the boys I liked were SD, the beauty of the sculpt was my first concern, the size was a plus since making patterns and sewing for SD's is much easier. But to be truthfull I was unprepared for the sheer size and weight of my Kazimir, I certainly wouldn't be carrying him around in my arms all day long ( he would consider that undignified anyways..)

    15. I like more SD size and my first girl I wanted to be big one...Also I have had pullips before, so MSD wouldn't have been lot different from their size, but SD is double compared to pullips. Also I had seen both sizes many times before and I just like big dolls more, though I will get many smaller ones too. x3 I just wanted the first one be big because I know I could enjoy it way more different then. I was really really scared to buy, because it's expensieve and if I don't like her!? Yikes! But I love her now... So whatever fancys you go for it. ;)

    16. I can't call this a decision...It's most likely i listened my inner voice ;D
First doll i've ever seen was a SD!Then most of the dolls i liked were SD sized too... That made me think 60cm is the perfect size for beginning (which was fortunately a right thought)...
It's always harder to take care of smaller things for me...Dolls aren't an exception...I have 2 YoSDs and i'm scared to touch them (since i might drop them or ruin their face ups or stuff)...It's easier for me to carry my SD sized boys around! And even though i own both MSDs and YoSDs,i still think that SDs are the perfect sized dolls for me! :D

    17. I'm a big dork who wanted her doll to look like a pretty anime man, so I went with SD. ^^;; While a few MSDs have caught my eye, I really prefer the more mature look of the SD boys. Although sometimes I wish I were into MSD just because they're slightly more affordable. :-/

    18. I will not decide the size if I love the doll's face~

    19. I started with MSD to see if I liked the composition of these dolls and could appreciate them, not get sick of them in a few weeks :p They are also reasonably priced, and then seeing AngelRegion's beautiful little boy, Cien, was the deciding factor; he suited Alex perfectly and I just had to own that gorgeous lil pissy face ^_^

After that, it was based on face for me. I always knew I would have a variety of sizes, so for me it's easy to decide which size next-- just what character/face calls to me more! I prefer larger dolls for the presence and, er, manliness, but if a tiny or MSD is perfect for me, I won't hesitate to plan for it. I love all the sizes, really, so far. I have as much fun with each size.

    20. I definitely chose my doll based on his face, not his size, but now I'm trying to remember what I looked at when I was checking out manufacturers' websites. I'm fairly sure I was concentrating on the SD-sized dolls. I knew I wanted an older sculpt, a bishie instead of a child, so I naturally gravitated toward the larger dolls. From the other side of the issue, I'm rather pleased he's going to be of substantial size, though I'm too tired right this minute to analyze why.
