How Did You Decide Size?

Jun 23, 2011

    1. I have little to no experience in the different doll sizes as I'm new to it, but for me the sculpt decided the size of the doll. Though I did know I didn't want a very small doll to start with, as I wanted to make my own clothes for the doll, and it's easier on a larger doll :)

    2. My choces regarding doll size have been pretty easy to make thus far. My dolls are all based off of my pre-existing OCs, and I want them to all be in scale with one another. Olivia, my first doll, is a vampire stuck in child form, and since the sculpt and doll size that matched her character was a littlefee, that means that the rest of my dolls are going to be in the yosd and msd size range. :D So far I've managed to find scuplts that match my characters in said sizes, so I'm pretty pleased. <3

    3. I'm a MSD person all the way because of price and mobility...I've went to meet with people and experienced all three sizes and man do these people who have a whole family of larger dolls have trouble carrying them to meets, and the smaller ones are cute but i'm not sure if i want my house to look like a mini kindergarten...MSD just seems like the right size for me at the moment because 1) i can justify their price in my heart 2) they are a bit more flexible in character representations, they can look very child like or relatively mature 3) i can easily carry two of them in a hand held suit case if they curl up 4)the larger dolls seems to intimate a lot of non-dolly strangers i some times meet, my parents find it strange and weird and outright creepy to have a 70cm+ manly man standing on the shelf menacing at them

    4. I mostly am concerned with how the doll looks before its size, but I prefer larger dolls just because they're a lot easier for me to play with/handle/make clothes for.

    5. My first doll was a Noyadoll Luh (artist doll - yosd size), but I haven't kept it very long because the size doesn't suit me. So I quickly acquired a MSD and I really like this size. SD size is definitely too big for me. On the other side, I tested pukipuki and I love it !! :P

    6. I prefer mature-looking dolls and the SD size gives me a wider range of options.

    7. I get bjd that appeal to me with their looks, there wouldn't be much point to getting a bjd who's looks I don't like. Sometimes the bjd price factors into consideration too. And the pesky details of currency conversion and postal prices.
So far all my bjd's 'Characters' occur after purchase so I don't have pre-set OCs. Then again I only have MSD and SD right now and I'm unsure if I'll add any Tiny sized ones :).

    8. I first thought the SD's were too big, and so I bought MSD's, and I have mostly MSD's today. I think it depends on the price too. I love how SD's look, their age and stuff, but I like the size of MSD so much better, so yeah... I also have two small dragons, which was rather unexpected. I thought I'd stick with MSD's forever xD But I doubt I'll get any bigger dolls than MSD, as well as any more smaller ones :3

    9. My "first round", somewhat between 2008 and 2010, was all SD: they were adult (or teenager) sized and MSDs were children. It was mostly because there were no mature-looking minis at the time. Even most of the SDs were childish...

Now, on "second round", after almost four years of hiatus, I'm all in for MSDs. A lot of mature ones have appeared since 2008 and it's possible to find fitting dolls for my characters. Back in 2008 MNF El was pretty much the most mature one... 'Nuff said. I'd love to still have SDs, but as I'm a student, I'm POOR. So the more affordable ones are for me. <3 I guess it's a common trend nowadays, what with the bad economy and all. I'd guess that's why the abovementioned mature minis have appeared as I'm probably not the only one who can't afford SDs and the doll companies know that. I still love how SDs look and feel, though. It's also easier to get the wow effect with them. :D (/and I don't mean this in the sense of getting others to admire my doll but that I'm impressed myself XD )

    10. I considered buying June from Dollzone once, but I had no idea how big she would be. So I took some measuring tape and tried to imagine and I was like no way, that's too much. So I figured SD is not the size for me. Then a couple of months later I went to the shop in Nijmegen to check some dolls out. While looking at them, I liked MSD most. So I picked one up. Love at first sight, so I went with it.

It's not like I'm going to stick to MSD. I actually ordered a YOSD as well, but for the time being, anything bigger than 45 I consider too big.Maybe in a couple of months I warm up to the idea of a bigger doll, but for now no.

    11. I wanted to collect MSD dolls but I fallen in love with SD girl and bought her. Now I want to buy only SD dolls but just now I ordered 1\6 doll  I don't have any MSD yet and I'll try not to buy it

    12. When looking for my first doll, I came across a SD sized one, so she became my first doll. ^^
      Pretty straight forward, I know. ^^;

    13. Didn't think I would ever go for SD but then realised if I'm going to be making clothes for them it's probably easier to start with the biggest. Curves are annoying at half scale, I can't wait to see what they are like at 1/3.

    14. I always tell myself to buy dolls with standard size because it's easier to get their clothing but...I just can't stop myself to get dolls with unique size which cause me so much trouble from finding the right size outfit. And...I actually stuck to buy dolls between MSD to SSD.

    15. I watched videos on youtube to get an idea of how big different dolls were. I also based it on the sculpt and I have preferred mostly SD sized but have recently fallen head over heels for Realpuki Tyni and Popo and also minifee Chloe. Still think i prefer the big kids.

    16. I’ve started with MSD size because of price and also room space. I love the look of bigger dolls though so it’s likely that I would end up sticking to smaller dolls. I just want a bit of all sizes, but I like them for different reasons. I’m sort of worried about being able to accommodate large dolls.

    17. It was quite easy for me to decide my first bjd size because a big role played the prize. I didnt want the little bjd though because I was kind of used to the Barbie sized dolls. I ordered a MSD size and I think it is the perfect size for me. I havent had 1/3 njd yet, but I had 72 cm one and it was deffinetely way too big for me.

    18. Since I don't have a lot of space and money, definitively, my right size now is Tiny! Many people started with big sizes, but with times, many realizes that tiny dolls are just perfect, because you can manage them much more easily.
I have more space for them, i can bring them with me much more easily (lati yellow size it's just perfect ), I can buy much more fabrics for her dresses, it's everything more easy ! Big dolls, MSD or even SD or super SD, are too big and with times, can give space's problems. Probably one day you'll tend more to sell an SD than a Tiny... SD and Super SD are like mannequins, I really don't have all the space in my home, and I can't know my future if I could have more problems with these sizes! So Tiny it's really perfect for me but in general, would give less problems. :)

    19. I started with a sd doll since the sculpt appealed to me and from then on the dolls have gotten larger! lol. 70cm however is my limit- (due to space and transporting them to meets). In the last 2 years I did purchase 3 msd's and found they are really awesome! (hybrid unoa's & a l-bi).

    20. I decided to start out with a MSD-sized doll. The size seems like the perfect starting point for someone like me who is new to the hobby, but I won't stick exclusively to MSD dolls. I have an SD head on the way.
