How Did You Decide Size?

Jun 23, 2011

    1. I may be the odd one out here - I already had a blog (and a bunch of photo props) based around an OT doll who's about 6.5" tall. So I chose a Pukifee because the size fit with what I'd already created. The bigger dolls are gorgeous and I love the two MSDs I have, but my heart belongs to the tinies.

    2. I started out with SD because that seemed closest to larger porcelain dolls I already had...

But over ten years on, I have accumulated BJD's ranging from tiny little RealPuki up to 80cm Lusion. I mostly buy them on the basis of how much I like the look of them, rather than the size.

    3. For me, it's always SD girl or men!

    4. When I was choosing my first BJD, I thought it should be MSD, not so big, not so small... Ended up buying an SD just because she was cute) Since then I've been mostly buying SDs so that they match each other. But I am kind of interested in trying various sizes, so now I have two MSD girls, one tiny and one 70cm tall guy. 70cm turned out to be too huge for me, I'm almost sure he is the only one that big I would ever have (although size will never be the reason to sell him - that's 5th Motif Venitu and he's too gorgeous to be sold! <3 ).
I like MSD size the most, I think. It's handy and cute but not so toddler-looking as most of the YoSDs are. But still - for me size mostly depends on the dolls I already have. MSD and SD shown together look too weird, I think.~

    5. I feel I definitely have a size limit. SD dolls are too big for me! My friend got an MSD for Christmas one year and I almost felt like she was too big! But now I see how small she is.
Seeing my friend's doll first made me decide I wanted something similar.

    6. I'm a fairly small person myself, and at first I really wanted YOSD size, because they were the least expensive. But they were all childlike, and as much as I loved them, I wanted to create actual characters so I went with MSD because they have older-looking sculpts.

    7. MSD is my favorite size because I'm small, but I have a YOSD and an SD as well.

    8. 60cm and 44cm both sounded terrifyingly huge to me. I'd seen box openings and they were So Big. That, plus pricing, plus space concerns (dorm room; I had to leave my Yo-size at home as it was) drew me to tiny sizes, and I love them. :D MSD and SD size just seem really intimidating.

    9. By the looks. And most of the dolls I want are SD size but i wanna get some MSDs too~

    10. I prefer MSD size, it's easier for me, but I also like SD size. Everything depends of the doll's personality and age.

    11. I was lucky that I lived in a city with regular doll meet ups, so I went to one to really get to know what BJD's were like in person at an event where I could handle one with the permission of various owners. up to that point I had only seen them in pictures or on display at a convention. The people there were really nice and I got to hold a whole bunch of different sizes and types of dolls! This was how I figured out I preferred SD size, as they had the perfect weight range and height that I felt the most attracted towards. I have since added and MSD and Yo-SD to my small pack, but those were because the characters were those sizes and the molds just screamed at me! Overall though my favorite size is SD despite how much of a raging bugger it is to get furniture and accessories for them! Ahahaha!

    12. The first doll I truly feel in love with was an SD, but in the middle of saving up for her I ended up falling in love with my MSD boy on the secondhand market. Now I've got another MSD on the way and I couldn't be happier! I'd definitely consider getting different sizes.

    13. I'm drawn to MSD sized dolls and smaller. Their size is most convenient for me because of the space they take up, the overall cost, and I just enjoy smaller dolls.

    14. I just get dolls based on the sculpt and not size, though I think larger dolls are fun to carry around, though Mini and up is a personal preference. I just want one Lati Yellow because they're adorable <3

    15. I really like the bigger sized dolls, and after handling a large doll at my first meet up I decided I really liked them. However, the SD size range is inconvenient for me to move and store (since I'm moving soon), so the MSD is really my preferred range. However, I do own two tinies who were my first and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

    16. I like dolls that are 60cm+. I honestly want it to be big as possible so I can sew for them. I think MSD would be too hard to sew. SD would be a good size to sew for them and not spend a ridiculous amount on fabric as if I am sewing for myself. Though buying that $100 Kimono for my SD does sound ridiculous sometimes... :yawn

    17. My collection is comprised of different sizes, with my smallest being my Iplehouse PET cat and my biggest being I.O.S. Infernale Classic 80, but SD17 or 72cm+ is still my preferred size.

Ever since I learned about the hobby, I instinctively knew what size I wanted my dolls to have. :)

    18. I knew I wanted one that was bigger than a barbie, but at the time was a little intimidated by the idea of an SD sized doll. And I didn't want a doll that looked like a young kid. So I started looking at 40-50 cm tall dolls.
From there it was just a matter of finding a sculpt I liked within my price range, I chose a Resinsoul Mei as my first doll, and am expecting to buy a larger Resinsoul boy in a few months.

    19. I usually have a character in mind before finding a matching doll so the size is already in my head. I plan on getting more guys and the characters in my head already have different sizes (if they are gay, I prefer to make the dominant one taller because of a personal preference or at least same size) so I will look out for these specific size differences but if I fall in love with a specific mold I would rather prefer having the right mold than size. Also you can fix a few things with shoes and more muscular dolls usually appear shorter than "skinny" dolls.

    20. Right now since I'm living in a college dorm that is the dictator of size for my first doll that's coming. He's a 1/6 doll coming from Resinsoul.
