How Did You Decide Size?

Jun 23, 2011

    1. My first doll was SD size, so i really love this size. 70cm is too big for me and unter the SD size is to small ^^... SD its really handsome :3

    2. Trial and error I guess lol, my first doll was an MSD but I realized the size wasn't really for me, so I sold her to buy an SD. SD definitely works a lot better for me, so I expect all my future "serious" character dolls will be SD as well. I love the presence and weight of them.

    3. In all honesty? I didn't xD
I saw an opportunity and grabbed it. Didn't have much room ($$) to choose, or I mean, I could, but it would take then another couple years probably.
All I knew is that the looks of more adult dolls always enchanted me. Found this SD lady for cheap, grabbed it.

Of course I didn't expect the weight, the huge awkwardness on holding her for the first time, "HOW DO I POSE THIS?", but after some time I grew quite comfortable with her, and I think I wouldn't go for smaller dolls at this point (I do have some non bjd of smaller scales).

    4. My first doll was a mini from over 10 years ago ^^; That was a result of a lot of factors, though. I was a highschool student, so that was all I could afford with my part time job money, and I loved that size back then and only had minis.

As I get older, I realize that most of the mini clothing options are very juvenile and I don't quite like that anymore. I like my dolls to look fashionable as adults (or teenagers, or young adults...what have you) so I started to buy 60cm dolls as soon as I could afford it. I didn't like how awkward their size was before but I kind of got used to it. It's also a pain to bring them places, so they never leave the house like my minis did.

Now my collection consist of only 60 cm. I do have a couple wishlist of Volks MSDs like Mako/Dai, F-39, and F-21 though.

      Tl;dr it all boils down to clothing style and the overall look I want the dolls to be ^^;

    5. The characters for my story were all meant for msd size so that's why, but my stories and taste have changed over the years and I'll be selling off my collection and moving up to bigger and more mature size dolls for a new storyline.

    6. The smaller the better, for me. I have very limited space. I just saw a very cute 1/12th scale beaut that is tempting me...

    7. I feel like when I started it was either SD or MSD. Now that I'm returning to the hobby there seems to be so many more options as far as Tinies go. Although I love my MSD I think yosd is where it's at

    8. MSD is the size I prefer because they are in my price range and they are the perfect size for me to carry around:)

    9. I bought all sizes except for 1/6 dolls and 1/3(and bigger) girls. But I guess I will broke my rule somedays in the future.

    10. When I bought my first doll, I didn't even think about size. I just knew that I liked that particular sculpt. As for my next few dolls, I wanted something that would be about the same size as my first one. So that's how I ended up with a bunch of ~70 cm dolls.

    11. migidoll had the sculpts that I wanted, so I based it off that :D

    12. I only collect SD sizes because I prefer mature dolls and all the sculpts that appealed me so far are in SD sizes. With regard to doll height, I am weary of 65cm+ dolls because it is harder to find clothes for them and they tend to lean to the more muscular side, which is not my aesthetics.

    13. Actually, I prefer Yosd size, but there are some SD dolls who interesting me (I just havn't some yet, so for the moment I prefer Yosd).
But the size is abolutely not a criter to choose a doll, or just the last one (and more to know if I need to make some place in my room).
I think the size doesn't matter as long you love your doll.

    14. SD was my favorite size at first, then I had MSD and yoSD size.
Even if I love my dolls whatever their size, I actually prefer 45-50 cm dolls (Iplehouse FID, RaccoonDolls, Souldoll Vito).

    15. I like collecting small things - rocks, trinkets, toys, you name it. So when I started the hobby, I was looking for 1/6 scale mature dolls. To my surprise... Not many existed. So of course, the logical conclusion was to go one step up to MSD. It's a good size for me! Though I like having the mature tinies as travel partners.

    16. It was a bit of trial and error, but alsoI feel like my tastes have changed over the years.
When I entered the hobby I was just finishing high school, so I didn't have a lot of money or space, and I was happy with the more youthful aesthetic most MSD sized dolls have, so I bought MSDs and I was perfectly happy.

Currently I'm not feeling as into my MSD crew -- I feel like I bonded much better with my larger dolls - all 65cm+.
I like the size and weight of them, and I like being able to easily find mature adult male dolls in semi realistic proportions. I have a little more space and money of my own to spend on larger, more expensive dolls.

    17. I am sort of frustrated with doll size myself. My first doll was a minifee and I have been struggling with her body size ever since. Most of the MSD clothes I bought will not fit her and shoe size is just a nightmare. It has more to do with Fairyland rather than the size though. I guess it has to do with what kind of face or age you are more interested in. I am prone to baby faces and that's why I have more YOSD dolls. But after all, I think MSD is a good size to start because you can go both ways with a MSD doll. There are the mature adult sculpt, teen sculpt and baby sculpt like Rosenlied, all available in MSD size.

    18. I just really like how sd sized dolls looked in peoples youtube videos.

    19. I'm starting out with small dolls and I think that's most likely how it'll stay! I knew when I started researching BJD that I'd want a doll under 30cms because I don't really have space and feel like I would neglect a doll any bigger than that just because of the hassle of the size (I say this from my experience collecting other things). My first doll I have on layaway right now is a Merrydollround Dango and dolls around her size and with her mature proportions are my favourite so far and are most likely going to be the dolls that I continue to buy in the future!

    20. I started out with small dolls and as my collection grew and I had more time and money to spend on the hobby, I started gravitating towards bigger dolls. I always felt like the bigger dolls fit the characters I tend to design more. I still have a lot of wee little dolls, but I definitely gravitate towards larger sizes.
