How Did You Decide Size?

Jun 23, 2011

    1. at the time of my first doll (we're talking 2006/7) i only knew two companies, DOD and Luts. That seems really silly now...cause there is soo much more choice! but because of money constraints i got a DOC MSD. He was my first grail as i didnt know anything else. But i never decided i would go for that size, it was just the size he came in. And i ended up with my luts grail doll as he was all i knew too
But i have to say i am really drawn to the SD size, lots of people say that is too big for them, and i agree, they are unwieldy sometimes, but i just relate to them much more as i like to sew
The sculpt really dictates the size of that character for me!

    2. I basically have simply tried a doll in each size. I have come to the conclusion that I like tiny or SD or larger size. I just can not get comfortable with MSD size for some reason.

    3. My first doll was an SD, and although she is beautiful I felt a little overwhelmed and sort of not sure what to do with her. Then I got an MSD and it was deffinitly feeling better but something was a little off. Then I got a YOSD and I felt really good with this size. Now I have 3 YoSD's and just recently I have started to feel like a small MSD could be okay?! Maybe I'll go back to SD again, who knows~

    4. I tend to like more mature-looking figures when it comes to bjds, so I usually go for the bigger, 1/3-size dolls. That's not to say that I won't collect a wide range of dolls that vary in height within that category. ;)

    5. When I first started looking I really had planned to buy an SD but I fall in love with Dikadoll Murong and he's 72cm. Once I got into 70+-size I couldn't stop. Now I have five 70+and one SD.

    6. Of all the dolls and doll pages, the FL LTF DES was the one I kept coming back to. Her stock photos sold me, and I had some print outs of those photos hanging up in my room for a while before ordering. I had no opinion on or reason for her being an elf except that she was cute. My doll plans for the future involve a dragon, though. ><

    7. I wanted a doll which was mature-looking, but still not too "human" (as in big eyes etc), that was a bit bigger than "regular" dolls. So Yo-SD and smaller was out of the question. The choice was between MSD and SD, and I thought that SD was a bit TOO big... So I tried MSD, and it felt just right! ^-^ now I want a Yo-SD or two too, as little siblings/children for my doll/s <3

    8. I am also one of those who is more likely to buy via whether I like a sculpt rather than on size. I used to think I would not get tiny dolls, yet I am finding myself so in love with so many of them, plus the price point makes me more likely to get them.

    9. Since several friends of mine own characters they'd RPed with mine, I try to stick around similar sizes so we can do photo shoots. I like SD, even if they are large. Most are still fairly light and great for cuddling, even if they are an armful. I want to try sewing for them, and the size will be easier to work with. I have a couple 1/6th dolls that I like too. :) And the MSD size is nice for easy toting and cuddles when you need arm space. I like almost all of them except the REALLY big ones that are harder to lug around and cuddle because they're so big.

    10. Actually I prefer boys in SD13 size or larger in general. I began from 70cm dolls but now I prefer SD13 or GR size because they are cute. I find it's not so easy to make the dolls in the same height as you expect. Sometimes I change their bodies in the same skin color to make them match with each other.

    11. I personally decided on collecting MSD size after thinking it over for a very long time. When I was 100% sure I wanted to join the hobby I took my boyfriend to the nearest doll convention and we discussed all the dolls there. He and I live together and I wanted him to feel comfortable with me bringing dolls into the house. I've heard about roomies and OSs being uncomfortable with dolls and I didn't want to be like that. We walked around and hashed out what would be considered a comfortable size and what wouldn't. The 60cm ones were just too big for our apartment and they remind my boyfriend of little hobbits or changelings. We agreed that anything big enough to kill us should it magically come to life was too big and a little creepy. This idea also limits my collection numbers because the smaller ones could work together.

I wanted to collect the really tiny mature dolls that are 16inches tall or less, but I just am not falling in love with how they look. I found fairyland and fell deeply in love with their posing and body structure. SO, that's the dolls I'm going to start with. My first is on her way in the mail. I like Msd because it's big enough to be accurate and detailed but small enough that I don't feel like I am buying replacement children.

sorry if this sounds really weird. I'm just really weird.

Also that anime Rozen maiden makes me pretty afraid of the SD size. Just like WHAT IF it enslaved me and drained the literal life out of me while it fought for control of the universe?! O_o *freaks out internally*

I respect people who own the bigger sizes. I just too weird to have one

    12. I still have yet to buy a doll, but I've always been attracted to the minis. I feel like 45cm is a nice size, I'm not sure if I'd know what to do with a doll bigger than that haha.

    13. First doll that got my attention was one of Heisejinyao 62cm boy dolls, and i was not really thinking that much about how big they are. While doing some researches on the dolls i might like later on, it came to me that probably i should go for 70cm, cause of the sculpts, and when my first doll came i was somehow suprised that they are really so big... Maybe someday i would find some small doll that i would love to buy, who knows.

    14. I've never been too worried about the sizes- I first look at the face and body then price. Indeed the bigger the more expensive it gets, but if I really love it I would just buy it. Maybe it's because I've just started my hobby... However, I ended up collecting smaller sized dolls first which I didn't buy myself - less than 30 cm, I don't know how. The first doll I actually paid for myself is SD, currently on layaway. I hope my family approves of my hobby, though. ^^;

    15. I started off last year collecting Lati's because they were the first BJDs I've seen and thought they were so cute. As the year progressed however, I started to think Lati's were to one dimensional and constricted. There's so much more you can do with bigger dolls. I ended up buying a Littlefee and now have a Volks S13 Kun on layaway secondhand. I think majority of it was the styling aspect. There are cute ways to dress a lati but the bigger dolls have more variety.

    16. It was weirdly complicated. I liked MSD size the most, but all the clothes, wigs, sculpts, etc were far superior in SD size, which I kept around 65-70cm. I try to keep to one size so I don't have to have multiple clothes and wigs, but I'm going to dive straight into smaller dolls as soon as they start selling more mature looking sculpts in the 45-52cm range. Holding off....

    17. I like SD size because the dolls have more mature look but I do find MSD more manageable (easier to move around and hold) didint know I would feel that way until I got my first MSD  as I started with SD sized dolls.
At the moment Im looking at 50cm size ones such as IOS, only problem I guess it to find clothing for such in between size.. Im all in for some mature looking MSDs

    18. At first I was getting SD sized because I like more mature dolls and back in 2004, there were no Tinies and no mature Minis and no dolls taller than 60cm... so it was not difficult to pick a size!

NOW, I just go by sculpts I just can't live without. I have almost all sizes, from micro-mini to 75cm. I am trying not to get any dolls BIGGER than that... I have Iplehouse EIDs and they are as big as I want to handle!

    19. I love SDs. Mainly because they feel more lifelike to me. More like "companions" really. But lately, I have come to realize that MSDs and YoSDs take less room, and they give a more "realistic" feel to my doll family..so some of those have started to show up here. But SDs will always be my favorite. :)

    20. At the moment, SD sized really don't interest me. The larger dolls just aren't to my tastes, no matter how nice I think the sculpt is (looking at you, Doll Chateau). I'll probably never go past the MSD (42-48cm) range, just because that's the size I prefer. C:
