1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How did you first find out about BJDs?

Apr 25, 2011

    1. I collect blythe dolls as well, and one day on one of the forums up popped dolls I've never heard of so I started researching and scouring the internet - now I'm just saving... it is love.

    2. My current best friend got me hooked on them! c:

    3. Around a year ago I was on the net looking for sylvanians families. I went to a shop and saw pics of Dollfie dream. I like manga and japanimation since I was a child and I wanted a model to draw. As I discovered the doll could make different poses I thought it was a good idea.
After that I have found pictures of others dolls and I felt in love :D
I still collect sylvanians too but my bugdet has dropped :D

    4. Basically, I was really into the lolita fashion and apparently it is said that lolita's typically like BJDs; therefore, there was a thread about it, and once I saw a few pictures I knew I was in trouble. xD I've never worn lolita (although I do admire the fashion) but BJDs are so fun to just have, and you don't have to wear them. :3

    5. A friend tell me about them...like "do you know? there are these beautiful dolls..." So I looked them and the first house of dolls that I met was Dream of Doll and I fall in love with Petsha but I was only fifteen and I can't afford her :(
So know I looked for more houses and discover the Soulkids and chosen Lily.C for my first doll :D

    6. first off, hey Geisha. XD
second, i'm sure i've told you how--i was surfing the internet when i was sick, just after moving here, and i was surfing on dA, and i thought it was an art print. i followed a few links, and wound up on the DOD site. when i found Sha, i was amazed and shocked at how lovely he was...when i realized these were DOLLS, i pretty much flipped out. i'd seen a few at AX a few years in a row, and i thought people just bought them there. i had no idea there was a whole market and community for them.
      suddenly, they were everywhere.

    7. I guess my doll found me and brought me into the hobby, all by herself. :) I was a dealer at a local doll fair and was specialising in my handsculpted miniature food, however I didn't know much about the dolls at all. I just knew that the owners were a big proportion of my customers and it made business sense to sell there. I saw a lot of dolls there, but it was just "oh wow that's pretty, that's cute etc etc", and I didn't think too much about it nor wanted to have a doll at that point.

AND THEN, at the end of the event all of the dealers were packing up their tables while the organisers were drawing the winners for the event lucky draw. And so I heard my name being called, I stumbled towards the stage in a blur and the crowd was going all woahhhhh and before I knew it they had passed me a Customhouse box with a doll (my Gemma! ange ai gaby) all dressed and even had a bear of her own! Turns out I had won the grand prize! I had lots of requests after that asking if i was interested to sell the doll and I must say I was a little tempted but THANKFULLY I didn't, and now I'm here.

and my doll wishlist keeps growing!! :D Gemma needs more friend to share her food with. :)

    8. I actually thought BJDs were creepy until I saw a blueskinned, unpainted, white eyed doll OE Dolomi with a suit and white hair.:D It was at a large doll meet, and most of the people there were a little creeped out by it but I fell in love with it immediately. I was hooked since then, and I've been working with my close friend and aesthetics artist SwivelChair, who formally invited me.:) And that's how it went down. Now I'm on my way to my first doll, and hopefully many more!

    9. I was introduced to BJDs when re-connecting with a friend from middle school. :fangirl:

    10. On a fashion doll forum.

    11. My cusion has dz doll and she had her out dressing her. At first truthfully i dint like the dolls. I started looking at dolls online, i found a doll on luts and fell in love with her.

    12. danny choo.

    13. I have been a doll collector all my life, and I think that I randomly googled doll collecting. Ball Jointed Dolls were one of the things that came up. When I first saw a picture of one, I knew that I needed one in my life.. And that is basically how I found out about them! eheh! :fangirl:

    14. I was searching for a character pic for an online rp that I participate in and came across a really well done photograph. I thought it was a real person and then I read the caption and was like BJD what is that? I have been looking something up about them for about 4 months now.

    15. Well, I have been a user opf Animexx e.V. *German club for japanese culture fans* and also DA. So I had already seen a few BJDs before but never really acknowledge them. It was only last year when I was at Connichi convention hwre I had someone sit next to me with a doll on her lap. I did not speak to that person though, but started to research a little and well, I got hooked ^.^

    16. I blame my friend akasora. She got interested in BJDs somehow, and she showed me the SOOM Euclase when he came out. She knew I was a bird-nerd who likes fantasy-ish things. XD
I looked at him and was like "O___O They make dolls with BIRD PARTS!? Omigosh!!" And so, I started watching the SOOM monthlies go by, looking at the pretty pictures. And then I started researching on my own, thinking of dolls for characters....

...and now I'm getting a SOOM Dune, and own a Minifee Karsh XD

-shakes fist at akasora- It's all youuuur fault!! (Though she probably won't see this post, ha!)

    17. Yup, that basically says it all for me too. Ever since he got his Dollfie Dream Saber, I wanted her. Though I failed to obtain Saber, I brought back two DDs from Japan, and now I own an MDD and got more DDs to come. As well as my very first Resin girl!

    18. I first known of them through my friend when she open up a website to let me see the dolls, then she started to explain about them to me and my friend. When we said that we are sightly interested in the dollfies, she brought her boy to school to show to us, so inthe end both my friend got hook on the dollfies and bought it.

    19. I was Barbie collector and love Japanese dolls like Licca/Jenny, so we bought any issues of the Barbie Bazarre, and one day they introduce the Volks dolls, I don't know when but it was arount 2002.
I totally fall in love, just what I wanted.
After I came to live in Japan and I regulary went to Sumika to dream about the doll, I remember I loves 2 dolls one was Nana and the other a Megu 13, both were full set dark one, probably a designer.
      The SD13 was just gorgeous.

But first I bought a Dollfie +, lol
They were so expensive, I thought impossible.

    20. A typo! :) Instead of typing in "BJP body piercing" I typed in "BJD body piercing" into Google image search. Seriously thee best typo I ever made in my life, now I'm completely hooked!
