It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How did you first get into Dolls?

Sep 7, 2009

    1. I had seen pictures of ball-jointed dolls fairly frequently when I was drawing more often and posting/commenting quite a bit on DeviantArt. However, I wound up wanting and purchasing one mostly because I lived with a roommate who owned several. Staring at her dolls rekindled my love for Peakswoods Yeru. While I was browsing doll company websites I spotted the Rosette Doll website (which at the time had just launched) and immediately-oh-my-goodness-could-not-stop-myself from buying a fullset Violet. That is how it all started.

    2. I saw pics of BJDs on this one DA account. At first I thought they were meh. Then when I looked through them a couple of times I thought to myself NEED TO GET ONE NEED TO GET ONE.

    3. I have a good friend who collects Blythes and make clothes for them. Then she got a Lati. Then everything just went downhilll from there. ^^

    4. I've always loved dolls. Especially ones you could dress up. Been a child at heart about dolls.
I can't remember really how I first discovered BJDs. But...I do remember it was about...4 years ago, so I've known about them for a bit, but I've sort of went back and forth with obsessing over them. It wasn't until recently has it gotten " worse." A friend of mine liked them too, so I had someone in common that loved these dolls. I've watched many people on DA with the beautiful dolls, hunted down videos of them on YouTube and collected sites that sold them. At first when I found them I was a bit disappointed by the price, thinking I will never get to have one. Now that I know more about them and even more in love with them, I'm determined to get one of my own. So. First off I attempted to ask my parents for one...But of course. They said no way. It was to expensive and that if I wanted it, be better to save up for my own. So that's what I'm doing and I'm searching for a job for the summer or any money making job. I haven't got one, but I really soon hope to own one of these beautiful things. My friend has 3 of them, so I get play with them sometimes. And according to her, she's getting me one for my birthday. (Which, is really quite exciting!!) But it's a hujoo, less expensive than the resin BJDs. But I still hope to save up for one soon!
Not much of a story, but I thought I share. Love reading all the others though. ^^

    5. Ohhhh jeeze. xD
I first found out about them a looong time ago. I think I sort of forgot about them for a while after I discovered them, but then was reminded of their existance on dA, and then fell in love with them.:aheartbea

    6. I saw pictures of them on deviantart but i didn't really pay them mind. Then i saw Dollfie Dream on Danny Choo. I liked the way they looked and i got more interested. I reasearched and ended up here. I think I fell in love with the D.O.I Luke and then E.I.D Evan and it just went on from there.

    7. Basically I was searching through Deviantart and saw a whole bunch of different looking dolls that I just had to learn about so I ended up researching them and falling in love with them!

    8. I've been customizing dolls for years, but for some reason, I never got into bjd's. Then one day, I was talking to a good friend of mine, who has like 5 bjd's and he started showing me the ones he had. So I did a Google search and started checking them out. At the time, I was looking at making another custom doll and I came across a bjd that I totally fell in love with. So I contacted a seller to find out more about the doll and ended up ordering her like 3 days later. She'll be here next week.

    9. My older sister gave me her huge tub of Barbies when I was little (easily over 100 of them). My aunt travels the world, and would always bring me back a doll from the country she would visit. Those were the two main things, I think. Besides my collection of Bratz dolls from when I was a little older. (I have at least 50 of them.) Haha. It's escalated from there.

As for BJD's, I first saw them scattered throughout DeviantArt and fell in love. I never was able to afford one until I got a job a few years later. (:

    10. I was researching for materials for my school assignment (a manga-anime dictionary xDD) when I was a junior (I have just graduated now ^^) and I searched pictures of "Gothic Lolita" in google...

I opened a picture, then through many sites somehow I landed on a forum (not DOA) where someone posted the shop photos of Homme Kirill. My first reaction was "OMGG WHAT THE HELL IS THAT??? DO THINGS AS BEAUTIFUL AS THAT EXIST???"

Then I saw that the pictures had DOD link on it and I typed 'em in..... and :D :D :D with DOD xDD
Then from DOD forum I heard of DOA then here I am :)

    11. I first learned about them from the manga Rozen Maiden. I was looking at the RM merchandise on eBay and saw a few of the Pullip dolls...... and then I saw Volks Suiseiseki, and her price tag. I soon learned about other companies likes Luts, Fairyland, Latidoll, Etc. And I've been loving them since.
But to this day I belive the doll I want most is Suiseiseki because she is so special to me. :)

    12. I remember a long time ago I saw pictures of bjds but never really got into them. I just thought they were super pretty. But just a few weeks ago, I stumbled on my friend's profile pictures on facebook and looked through them and saw her bjd and I just knew I wanted one. Then I started researching and now I'm trying to find an affordable doll with a sculpt I know I won't regret getting. I can't wait to find the perfect one and buy him. xD

    13. Actually, I don't know how I came in contact with BJD's, but the first BJD's I saw were Volks Dolls ^^ And I was absolutely scared of the high prices =D

    14. I first saw them on deviantart I think, but didn't realise what they were.

But I blame one of my friends for my current obsession. She was showing me hers, and I knew I wanted one...

    15. My friend, who is also a memeber here. She kept buggin me about it cause I was like 'Whut? You mean barbies.' I didnt have any idea how cool they were until I looked at them a bit. She even went so far as to drag me to a con. >.< Now I am infatuated.

    16. I've collected dolls since I was a little kid, starting with a fairly extensive collection of Madame Alexander Dolls that were my mother's when she was a child and a TON (4 2x2' cube boxes) of clothing for the 6 smaller dolls and 2 boxes the same size for an 18" doll). My grandmother made most of the clothing, and she also made clothing for MY dolls. I collected hand-made cloth dolls (mostly from a single artist in TN- I have 8 of hers) for a while, but I really wanted something that was a little more poseable. A friend of mine used BJDs to mock up costume designs for historical costuming and I first saw them in her photos. The price was very off-putting at the time (and still is somewhat, to be honest- I covet MSDs and tinies the most, especially the REALLY tinies!) but I have come back to the idea a few times. Recently saw ANOTHER friend's BJD in person and.. um... yeah.

Now I'm deciding what to order. :P I have several characters in mind, but I think I'm going to end up ordering the basic body + heads from whatever and then doing wigs and Naming and everything after that once I get a better feel for the individual dolls' personalities.

    17. When I was fourteen, I had a friend online who had a doll or two. She would send me her photostories and I always found them so beautiful and wanted one (or more ;D ) of my own, very badly.

Seven years later, here I am, still dollless, but finally actually saving towards one.

    18. I was browsing around the internet, and for some reason came across several pictures of BDJ dolls and was instantly wowed. But the prices were too steep for me at that time... so I had to just content myself with seeing pictures of dolls... until recently XD

    19. My friends friend had posted some pictures of her BJD on her livejournal, and then that friend eventually got a SOOM Godo and I thought he was awesome, so I went to SOOM and looked at all the dolls, that eventually led me to other sites (Luts in particular) and that was that. I bought my first boy (Yuuri a CP El) and I was in love.

    20. Saw a person with a 1/3 scale boy at an anime con back around 2001 and was amazed. I was making character dolls the hard way with 1/6 scale fashion dolls and knew I'd like it much better if I could make them with that sized dolls.
