Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. How did you first get into Dolls?

Sep 7, 2009

    1. My aunt is very creative; from sewing, drawing, painting, sculpting, and collecting Barbies. She worked at Borders (the book store) and discovered Haute Doll magazine. She knew I'd be intrigued. And of course, my whole family knew I'd immediately want one :) . It was an issue full of bjds, and there was an article about Arcadia Dolls. I went on their website and quickly became obsessed. I waited 2 years to see if I still wanted one, then half a year to decide which one I wanted. I got my first, a Bobobie Espree, a few months after my 12th birthday.

    2. I got my doll last August from my daughter who lives in England. She is so very in to BJDs! She has several body parts and a few whole dolls. hmmm actually she has more than a few hehe. She hasnt let me rest since she started on with them and all I could think of is what else that money could be used for but then I got mine. She is lovely. I have to boast. She is just so lovely. I'm learning to sew because my darling Emma needs clothing. I'm going to get hubby in to it too because I want him to help me make furniture *smile*. He's not going to like it but he will do it.
Some day I'd like to get a big sister or brother for her but I have to say those elf dolls have really caught my eye too. We'll see just how far this lunacy will take me <grin>

    3. I was at a convention walking past the artist alley and suddenly stopped when I saw a bjd for the first time! It was a luts doll dressed as Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club! :D (my favorite anime!!! <3) I just fangirled and continued to walk on. A few weeks later I found the owner of the doll on deviantart, and asked her about bjd's. (I was clueless on even what they were called) She described them and told me to go on den of angels to learn more. The next couple months I researched and finally bought my kid delf bory! :)

    4. The second time I went to a Danish con in 2006 some had their bjds excebitet and it was love at first sight.
in july 2007 I had enough money to buy my first.

    5. I dont like dolls in general only bjds and living dead dolls =) I Was watching Rozen Maiden and I like them and thats when it all started :)

    6. I was on DeviantArt browsing through popular photos, and happened across a photo of a BJD. ^^ I did some research on their profile, looked around on their favorite photos, which led me to more information about/photos of BJDs, and after a bit of looking around on the internet for info, I was hooked. x3 That was in... early-mid '08? And I bought Freya on Halloween of '09. I'm not sure exactly when she arrived, (Darn parents, wrapping her up as a Christmas present and not even telling me so I was worried!) but I first met her December 29th of '09.

    7. I've been collecting Blythes and Pullips since 2006.. and then Dals and Taeyangs, the cheaper dolls. I have loved playing with Barbies as a kid, and other assortment of toys and dolls. It wasn't in my interest to actually 'collect' them until Blythes, Pullips and Dals came along. Of course I never thought I would get into BJDs.. mainly because I've never been comfortable about their sizes. But I've recently fallen in love with Yo-SDs, and am getting some in the process. So I'm shelving some of the older dolls in favour of them because I don't have much space in my uni apartment. :)

    8. It started by stumbling into Marina-B's deviantart page, and I saw her lovely dolls. I'm not too sure if they were classified as BJDs, but at that moment, I simply fell in love with dolls.
Very shortly after, I think it was on the 'newest deviantations' page or something of the sort, I came across a photo. And since I had seen the other doll's previously, it really caught my attention.
Then I started asking them what they were, where to find them, ect. ect.

When I showed the picture to a friend of mine, she already knew about them, so then we did from research together, and she redirected me to DoA.

It's been about a year and a half since then, and I'm really close to having enough for my first doll!

    9. witch convention did they buy from! Im going to sac-anime this year !maybe ill find one there!

    10. i first got into them at age 7...i saw one on in a book i read...i cant remember its name but it gave a sight to find them on...even tho i only got one and it was a cheapie...(one of the 27cm plastic things from volks) i instantly fell in love and named her mai when she arrived...i only recently lost her in a house fire...and it feels like i lost a family member...im 16 now so i had her a while and i carried her literally everywhere! but im still saving up and looking for another! so it wont be long!

    11. About 2-3 years ago I was out at my friends house and she had pictures of Ducan on her wall and pasted all over her LJ so i asked about them and she sent me the link and we sat there in her room looking at DoD.. i swore then and there i was going to get one... well time flew by i forgot they existed until i went to an anime convention last fall and saw a few girls carrying them around i was like OH YA! still forgot to start saving until a fiend of mine sent me a link and i was like 8D BJD! ane she and i got to talking and now im actually saving for my first doll LOL

    12. I had a high school friend who got into them. She was buying one - or more than one, I don't recall - and used to show me the websites and the dolls she was going to get. At the time, I was maybe 15-16 (23 now) and from a poor family... I had pretty much resigned myself to never getting one of these beautiful, beautiful dolls, but I was entranced. I got irritated and jealous when she kept showing me expensive dolls that she could afford and I couldn't (she did it in a rude way - she knew it upset me that I would "never" be able to afford the dolls, but kept showing them to me and rubbing my face in how she could buy one or two right then). I'm really glad now that her behavior didn't turn me off of dolls altogether, but I still loved them.

Well, it did take until my last semester of my first degree, but I got my first doll - and my second, third, and fourth! XD

    13. *points at DoA user ZeKarmiSama* She made me do it.

Really though, I joined an Assassin's Creed fan website in late 2007 that she was on under the username Kaxxen, and she would have polls and pictures of dolls while she tried to find which one she wanted. I got curious, asked her some questions, and then the collection has grown and shrunk and grown again ever since.

    14. I was looking for pictures of the Rozen Maiden anime when I found a picture of a little BJD dressed as Suiseiseki. I wanted to find out more about it, and I look more and more information until I finished on the website of DIM. From that moment I was very excited, I tried to buy my first doll, and a month ago finally got it

    15. I remember finding out what they were back in highschool, and vaguely in the back of my head thinking they were cool. And I remember seeing some at anime cons and thinking they were really pretty. I think it was when I discovered my friend owned one that really spurred me to really really wanting one. Before I was of the mind that 'Those are nice, might be cool to have one!' But once I got to see one up close and stuff... I knew I just had to have one.

The prices were what put me off for a long time. I could afford one... but like... I didn't want to spend that much money at once! But finally I caved in and bought one about a week and a half ago.

I can't wait til he comes to me~~

    16. Of all things for a pragmatic 58 year old to do, I go and fall for a pretty face. Browsing handmade items on Etsy.com, I wandered across a pic of a BJd in a cute outfit, and boing - two weeks later I find myself welcoming my MSD Nabiyah, Glisse. I've also welcomed a stream of incoming little packages - going to the mailbox is fun! Of course, I try not to think about the outgoing PayPal charges too much...

    17. All right my story starts out at a Con, all my life I've been a writer, I'd been looking for something new to make my characters. At the Con I walked around and saw people selling clothing for these dolls. I thought they were amazing and I asked my boyfriend what they were. He told me what he knew about BJD's (which wasn't much) and I was lucky that they had a meeting for them that night. I went to the meeting took notes, then went online that night to look them up. Lucky me again I found out there was a local group, and now I'm saving up. I'm not sure which doll I'm getting, but I'm starting my savings now so when I find her I'll be able to buy her with any more waiting.

    18. I grew up without television, radio, much of any toys.
As an adult I saw what I later found out was a ball jointed doll and fell in love.

I have searched and searched for the one I wanted for years and finally one has come home to stay for me.

    19. In a convention of anime in Barcelona I saw a little Suiseiseki pullip doll,I fell in love inmediatly and I started to collect pullip, dal and taeyang. Then,in pullip foros, I saw photos of BJD too, I invetigated about them. Investigating,a Odelia(DIM Happy) corssed in my sight and I had to buy her,she is really sweet!!Now,I collect BJD. This is my history :XD:

    20. Hmm my memory is a little fuzzy. But I'm pretty sure I came across the DoD website while I was browsing the web about 2 years ago, but before I knew what BJDs were, but instantly fell in love with Ducan (who is now my dream doll), he was the first BJD I ever saw. And then slowly I started seeing them on youtube, deviantart, even magazines. So I started learning more about them, and one say I suddenly came across the DoD website AGAIN about 1 year ago and decided it was fate x3 I looked up more doll companies, watched doll videos on youtube, and finally joined DoA. Since then I have ordered my first doll, Soom Monzo, and now I'm saving up for my dream Ducan and also Sha.
