Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How did you first get into Dolls?

Sep 7, 2009

    1. I first became interested in ABJDs when a friend of mine was given a BJD from someone who hadn't been able to bond with her. Seeing how beautifully that doll was crafted made me very interested in the BJD community, but it stayed in the back of my mind for a few years until I came across DoA quite recently. Seeing all the lovely dolls on this site has made me absolutely fall in love with them!

I first became interested in dolls in general from a very young age. When I was about 5, my dad came back from a week-long business trip with a present for me: a gorgeous porcelain doll in a blue Victorian dress. I loved her so much that she still lives on my dresser, over a decade later!

    2. My first brush with BJDs would have to be close to a decade ago quite on accident. I was interested in the crushed shell dolls dressed like geisha's you so often see displayed in a glass cube. I had an interest in the Japanese culture and my aunt (by marriage) is from there.

I remember looking for them online and stumbling across volks at the time but I forgot about it for years till i saw them in a doll magazine. However I only recently convinced myself it was okay to buy one

    3. I started out doing pixel dolls. That hobby led to looking at actual dolls I could hold and that in turn introduced me to the world of ball joint and fashion dolls. While saving to buy my first doll, I spent a lot of time making the characters via The Sims (2 & 3). It was, I think, a natural progression for me to go from pixel to ball joint dolls.

    4. Ohaycon 9, my first anime convention xD I had been walking around in the Artist Alley when I noticed them. I thought, "Omg, how beautiful!" and dragged my Dad over to the table to see them.

      Artist: Hey there!
Me: Hiya! Er... May I please see your doll?
Artist: Sure! :) Just be careful with her!

I fel in love, and being stupid, forgot to ask what they were xD So I googled pics of previous Ohayocons, and my lucky butt found a pic of the artist's dolls, underneath saying BJD and I'm all like, MUST SEE.

So now I'm saving up for my 2nd doll/First SD/First Boy only a year later, lol xD

    5. In my opinion, meeting BJDs is a beautiful mistake^^
I remember that looking for some information online…and I paid attention to LUTS website accidentally...
Then, I brought my dolls home after long time waiting^^

    6. I don't really remember what got me started on Super Dollfies specifically, but my daughter or I, not sure which, found the Dollmore site , so that's where my first dolls came from; it expanded from there. At one time I had 11 , at present I only have 8. The Sds and mini I have now I've had about 2&1/2 years, except Angell Studio Cain, him I got last spring.

    7. Started at an anime convention. :)

That's when I first saw these BJDs and fell in love with them (my friend at the time saw them at the same time I did and was utterly creeped and disgusted by them, heh), but I didn't feel an urge to have my own until a couple years later. They were pretty, but I didn't think I had any use for them. And then I made friends with somebody who owned a Luts El and got to see how a BJD was like up close. The hook-line-n-sinker moment was when I learned something unique about these dolls...

"What?! They're customizable? I can make my doll look like any character I have in mind?"

And here I am now. 14 dolls and counting. :thumbup

    8. I learned about BJDs around five years ago. I was still heavily into JRock at the time, and one of the random JRock sites I stumbled upon on the web had an SD13 customized to look like Mana. I fell in love with it instantly, and at the time I thought the Mana SD was a porcelain doll. I did some research, eventually found the Volks site (and fell in love with some of their LEs)...but didn't get one until 2008.

    9. I founded BJDs about four-five yrs ago randomly on the net and fell in love instantly. I finally ordered by first one this new years after years of begging my parents to get me one for every birhtday and Christmas that has past! c:
my aunt loved them enough to convince my dad to get me one this year~
he's still iffy bout the idea that we bought one, but I'm sure he"ll change his mind as soon as my dear boy comes home <3

    10. My first contact with BJDs was in 2006.
There was an article in a magazine for Anime and Manga and I totally fell in love with these beautiful dolls.
But there were no german dealer for BJDs and I totally forgot them.

Last year in september I discovered them again.
I found the old magazin lying somewhere under my bed I read it again.
But this time I decided to want a BJD for christmas and I found a dealer in germany...

Now I have my first doll and waiting for second.
And I definitely can say that I'll never regret my decission to buy one of these gorgeous dolls :D

    11. For me, I started out being a mlp collector (still am)...I chanced upon dolls while browsing the forum I always patron dedicated to my little ponies and yep they had a subforum dedicated to all kinds of doll and that's where I first got attracted by them..jun planning dolls specifically XD Now I'm waiting for my first and probably last bjd to add to my collection =p

    12. My friend evilly showed me a link from Dream Of Doll and I immediately fell in love with dolls. In the past, I never really have a thing for dolls, especially those with BIG heads and HUGE COLOSSAL EYES. *shudders*
But the first time I saw those DOTs from DOD, I told myself I had to get one. Initially, I fell in love with Camine, but I never really got him... :( ($$ was a problem and still is...)
So instead, I settled myself with DOC Homme Ivan and never regretted my decision since ^^

Oh and that "evil" friend of mine, that introduced BJDs to me, has a DOC Homme Kirill ^^

    13. Evil Interwebs. Evil, EVIL interwebs, I tell you.
That's what i get for killing time browsing: a hyper-expensive new hobby. But my heart's all aflutter and life is running around inside of me like a squirrel so, who can put a price on happy? :cheer

    14. Actually I saw a picture of a BJD doll in an avatar picture on some forum. The doll's model (Ducan) was said on the avatar and I just googled it. And ended up on DOD's website :sweat I forgot the whole thing later though.
Later I read an article about BJD's and found them again. And that was when I also decided to buy one, after doing some research. I'm very glad I happened to read that article :D

    15. My first contact with BJDs, but at that time I didn’t know what they were, was in 2007 when my daughters brought me a magazine from the Paris Japan Expo. There was an article in it with beautiful dolls made by an artist. I’d never seen such dolls in France and never heard about them, so I only kept the magazine for the beautiful pictures and forgot the dolls.
But last year, while my daughters were organizing their visit to the 2009 Japan Expo, I remembered the magazine and the dolls and finally I decided to join them to go there. My main goal was to discover the manga universe and the famous cosplays they told me about. But my secret goal was to find some of these beautiful dolls seen in the magazine and learn more about them. That was the case, I saw many gorgeous dolls but none for sale. They were owned by private fans that were there to share their passion and show their beauties.
That was beginning of June 2009, and the real starting point of my story with BJDs…I totally fell in love with these dolls. :D
I spent hours and days on my computer in order to learn more and more, but I was afraid of what I read about customs taxes, shipping problems…until I found a retailer in France…
Then I spent days again in order to find which one would become my first BJD and finally ordered my doll beginning of July.
Now I have two dolls at home, and still some projects…
I've also brought my eldest daughter in this adventure. She received her first BJD for Christmas.
A fabulous adventure which will not end for soon! :)

    16. I found them on the internet...I can't remember where. Maybe it was on a site that had something to do with manga ...but ANYWAY I totally fell in love with them. <3
I wanted one so bad for so long...and now I'm getting one!! *YEEEY*
      >///w///<

ALSO, it was amazing because dolls were never really my cup of tea. But these dolls just enchanted me with thier
      beauty<3

    17. That would all be thanks to WeirdReality, one of my in-real-life college friends. :) She decided that she loved dolls and showed them to me quite a bit and while I always thought they were neat, I never really got into them...then we went to a meetup together and I got to hold a Dollzone Megi and it was love at first sight...then I was officially addicted. I did end up buying myself a Megi but sold him shortly after...apparently I didn't love him as well as I thought I did. But as of right now, I own 5 dolls and have one more on the way. Oh dollies. You are so addictive.

    18. haha yep, my younger sister did the same to me... I was like 'ooh jup their cute and all'...(and expensive!!!) and she was pondering about getting one and saving up for 2 years. last year she finally got her Lillian (Soul Doll Winy) and I just love her :) I just now got my tracking nr. in for my first doll, an RS Mei!

bye bye hard earned money hihi :sweat

    19. I was spending another late night on the computer, talking to my best friend (Ashael) over AIM. She randomly brought up these dolls that her online friend had and said she wanted one too. I was then sent a link that brought me to the dreamofdoll website.

      Instant love.

Two years later and here I am today. :) Albeit with less spending money, but these dolls are definitely worth it.

    20. I had an interest in BJD's when I was in my 1st..well technically 2nd year in high school. My friend came up to me one day and showed me DoA's lovely dolls and I just became so drawn to the dolls. I never bought one though, and eventually I forgot about them. But 5 years later (as of recently) I decided to look through my favorites in Deviantart and saw pictures of BJD's. I fell in love with them again. I truley hope to own one, one of these days. hopefully I could if college doesn't suck me dry first. XD ahahaha but yep that's how I got interested.
