1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. How did you first get into Dolls?

Sep 7, 2009

    1. I've always been into dolls, since I was a kid... I started collecting Barbies when I was 10, but I wanted something more... personal. When I came across some BJD photos on Deviantart, I fell in love...:D

    2. I grew up with two older sisters who loved dolls, and I loved what they loved. They made all their own clothes and their dolls' clothes too, and they taught me how to sew. Many years later I started making clothes for 16" fashion type dolls. Fun, but these dolls don't invite bonding (at least they don't invite me). Not too long ago I saw pictures of some bjds on a dollart website and was completely floored. My first will arrive soon.

    3. I must say that my being interested in bjd's is a little odd for me, I was a tomboy growing up (erm, still :p) and apart from Strawberry Shortcake and Rainbow Brite (which I still own) I was not into dolls at all. Dolls were much too girly for me and I still think some are, but I hesitate to include bjd's in the same category, they're much too special.
I first came across bjd's on the net while looking for a doll for my niece, though thought them too pricey, albeit very beautiful. Then a couple months back I found myself once again eying them and fell in love with Lati's green coco and ronnie and I'm currently waiting for my first, which is a coco. And oddly I am very much looking forward to dressing her up...even though I never really liked dolls...weird :? But like I said, these are so much more than just dolls.

    4. I've always been into dolls since I was a kid. First were barbies, then cloth dolls, action figure dolls and now finally, Ball Joint Dolls. But it hasn't been until the past three years that I've really starting looking at Ball Joint Dolls, dreaming about them and wishing I won the lotto so I could purchase them. It was just luck that saw me with some extra cash courtesy of my father and I went ahead and bought my first and I haven't been disappointed at all. Although I doubt I will ever be brave enough to try to do my own face-ups, I do hope to start sewing clothes and making jewellery for them.

    5. Well I started off being pullip obsessed ; )

Some of my pullip friends started loving bjd`s and at first I didn`t like them at all... (I know I know.) I loved PukiPuki`s only. I started loving Charles Creature Cabinet and I really wanted to get Bubu Odoroki or Alice Cherry Blossom. I checked Charles Creature Cabinet a lot to see if Bubu would come back in stock. One day I was really lucky and I found out a surprise edition of Bubu had been released! I put him on layaway right away :)`
That`s how I found out about bjd`s, and I hope to get another one in the near future (hopefully a Lati Yellow!) :aheartbea

    6. While I tried to hide it, I've always had a fascination with dolls. I would go to local "flea" markets and spend my time looking at "Precious Moments" dolls often.

However, I knew nothing of BJDs until I happened upon Saaya-chan's photos on Deviantart. I was amazed at their beauty and how much emotion their faces can convey. After that, I started researching BJDs (mainly to see why they cost so much) and my fascination and amazement only grew. But it was mainly the creative aspect, and the sheer amount of possibilities of customization these dolls offer that did it for me.

    7. I love photography
I'm used to go on some website where people showed their pics
and one day I saw a picture (very beautiful) of a Unoa Lusis...
I never heard about bjd before, so I searched on internet about the Unoa and I discovered the BJD universe..
Its take me one year to buy my first one..

    8. Deviantart xD I found a picture of a Pullip Zuora and thought she was supercute.. and after collecting pullips i was looking for BJDs :3

    9. Once upon a time when I lived in California, I happened to see one at Fanime con I had no idea what it was but it was so beautiful, she was in a huge hurry and I didn't get a chance to ask her what it was (to this day I have no idea which doll it was).

Years later, I discovered Heise's art (HZ) and her dolls on DA and consequently I found Cosplay of Lahoo and Shall on behindinfinity's gallery (He had a direct link to Dream of Doll). I was curios and wanted to know more. Poking around I found Den of Angels (Mind you I didn't register here until December just before I ordered my doll). After half a year of research and looking over the different sites (Yes by the time I had my first doll I was well versed in how to restring and care for him and yes the first thing I did after I got him was take him apart clean him and restring him).

I spent that time finding the one for me it took about five months looking at different dolls and during that time I started to sell my Collection (old school games and the like) to make the money for one. In December (2008) I found Ducan, something about his promo pictures called to me. After ordering him I didn't look back, now I have five dolls, two floating heads.

    10. I saw dolls around online and at conventions but not real close up. It wasnt until I went to Japan and saw a display that I fell in love with one as it was one of my favourite characters from an anime.

    11. Every year, my uncle would bring me a porclin doll as a gift and I had a ton of Barbies because I was at that age. I still have all of my nicer dolls my uncle gave me (not much to say for the barbies though haha) Around...2? maybe 2 years ago, I saw BJD's for the first time at a convention. I was interested in them but I was with friends and they wanted to go somewhere else than stare at dolls. There was another booth with BJD's that I was able to get a closer look at.

I never knew exactly what the dolls I saw at the convention were until I saw similiar dolls peeping up on deviantART and got curious.

BAM one year later and my boy is home waiting for some cloths hahaha.

    12. A friend on dA mentioned bjds in a journal, so I looked it up and found the Rozen Maiden manga, read that, then I wanted my own :3

    13. For me,
a friend had one from a convention, and i loved her :D she handed me a bjd magazine and thats all it took!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    14. I looked in the Aniway (a anime amagazine in the Netherlands) and there was a article about Bjd. After I readed I got on the internet and the first site I was on was DOD . I looked around and saw Shall, She was so beautifull. After that i learnt more and more.. and began obsessed

    15. I collected ooak polymer sculpts of females and wanted something articulated.
When I bout my first SD I couldn't believe her size I was used to 10 inch sculpts

    16. I got into BJDs becausze a friend of mine has them and recently had started sending me to some sites for them, including here.

And now, Im addicted and working on getting my first doll. :D

    17. I blame my best friend for it entirely. She had had her first doll for a while before ordering the second one, and I had some mild interest at the time, but it wasn't until she called me over to see the box opening of her second doll that my brain decided "I need one." I now have two and already have my next two planned out :sweat

    18. I saw dolls on a french blog and I found them so beautiful !! so I searched for site about bjd and maybe 8 months later I bought my first bjd

    19. I blame my friend... he mentioned that he had a friend that were into dolls (he didn't mention what type of dolls they were), showed me a few photos and I definitely didn't like them. Even now, I'm absolutely POSITIVE that they weren't BJDs in those photos. Then his friend moved down to where we lived and moved in with him. I have to say that it was a relief when I saw the dolls in person, even if I was mildly creeped out. His friend, now my housemate, rescued my opinion on BJDs by introducing me to a few doll sites. I fell in love with them ever since...

    20. I honestly don't remember how I found them, I only know I somehow found the website of DOD and from there learned that they were very expensive, but beautiful dolls. My take is that that was around four years ago. I forgot about them, but recognized them at conventions and such. I relived my interest in the summer holidays of 2009. My mind's foggy about it.

I'm seriously glad my sister loves them as well, as it might as well have been that the thought of getting one never would have entered my mind if it wasn't for her.
