1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. I do wash my hands before handling them, just to remove any excess oils and moisturizers that might damage them faster, but I don't put on gloves before handling them. (And it's not for lack of gloves; I'm a cosplayer and my main character wears white gloves, so I have literally piles of them around.) I DO wear gloves throughout my cleaning/blushing process, but generally vinyl instead of cotton in that case, so I can change out quickly as they get dirty. Since I do my own aesthetics, I guess I'm just not that worried about damage to them.

    2. No gloves, but i regularly wash them to remove oil (that is on our hands)

    3. I don't feel the need to wear any protection on my hands, but I like my hands to be clean. So if your hands feel dirty or oily you can just give them a quick wash!

    4. No, I do NOT use gloves or anything else like that. I just make sure that my hands are clean and if I've recently used hand sanitizer, that the sanitizer is completely dry. However, I have stopped wearing fingernail polish since having an experience where I got nail polish on Ryuichi's faceup and the magic eraser took off a patch of his faceup. :sweat So no more nail polish on my fingers for me, toes only! ;)

But more important to my mind, what's the point of having BJDs if you can't/won't play with them? If I wanted expensive artwork, I'd buy a nice picture or statue from some up-and-coming artist, not an expensive doll that's made to be loved and played with. Just because they're expensive doesn't mean that you handle them with gloves or put them in a glass case to be dusted once a year. How boring would that be? :(

Sure I'm careful to not put them someplace dirty or where they can fall and break, but I play with my resinoyds, and they go places with me like grocery shopping, to the fabric stores or anime conventions. I love and spoil them, so to me the idea of them only being handled with gloves or sitting in cases to be admired is absurd. But then again, to each their own. *goes to read what others have said*

    5. Gloves. Ha ha ha
do you wear gloves when you hold a baby ?

Surley a child is more precious than any doll!

    6. I sometimes wear gloves, tho that's usually when I do stuff like faceups or drawing tattoos on a doll. Otherwise I just clean my hands.

    7. I ALWAYS wash my hands before touching my dolls, as I am a moisture cream freak so always have greasy hands from that! If it's a hot day and I feel like my hands are sweating a bit, I keep a clean cloth nearby to wipe my hands on occasionally too.

    8. When handling other dolls, I like to wear white gloves because, well, they're other peoples' dolls, and I don't want them to be off with me for making their dolls mucky. When my first doll arrives, I'm planning on not doing that however, and just washing my hands before I play with them.

    9. No, not when I'm handling my doll, but I make sure I washed my hands before !
I do wear gloves when I do the face-up though lol

    10. I always wash my hands before I handle any of my dolls, but a few have full body blushing or tattoos. Those dolls get handled with white cotton archival gloves most of the time. Also, I usually wear gloves when I handle other people's dolls just to be on the safe side.

    11. I only wear gloves if we're playing outside and it's cold, and then mostly it's my fingerless "camera gloves".

Generally, I prefer to handle my dolls with my bare hands, although I do take off my rings and bracelets if they have the potential to scratch. I mostly always wash my hands before I handle my dolls, but I'm a little obsessed with hand-washing at the best of times, so that's not something specific to doll handling for me.

    12. Sounds likeI'm like most people, I just give my hands a wash before picking them up. I hate doing anything with gloves on, although I am going to get some latex ones before I remove a face-up with isopropal alcohol again. They last one destroyed my nails!

    13. Honestly, part of me doesn't care if my dolls get a little dirty. They belong to me and I love them and I take care of them, but I'm also going to play with them, which for me just means dressing them up and posing them and carrying them around with me sometimes. I try to take Mr. Clean Magic Erasers with me when I go out with my dolls, so I can clean off any dirty marks I can actually see, and every once in a while I'll give them a Magic Eraser 'bath' (wipe down) but I'm not going to wear GLOVES while handling my own things. If someone wanted me to wear gloves before handling their doll, I would either do it or not handle the doll. But for my dolls, I don't care.

Once, I took a vintage OT doll of my mother's to a doll museum to get her apprasied, even though I had no intent of selling her. She was worth almost $400, but what amused me was that the people working there who appraised her kind of had this panicked look when they saw me handling her with my bare (clean, but bare) hands, and they insisted that I take her home wrapped in tissue paper in a bag. I unwrapped her once we got in the car. Sure, she's damn near pristine for her age and the fact that my mom loved her to bits, but now it's my turn to love her to bits, and it's not like I'm going to destroy her by handling her without gloves. Like, the damage that the oil from my skin might do to the plastic is so minimal, and the fact that I'm never going to sell her, I just don't care. I'm going to love her and take care of her just like my BJDs, and that's how I feel about them too.

    14. Haha that question ;D
I only use gloves when doing faceups :P

    15. This is a bit repetitive, but I just wash up before handling my dollies, and I try to avoid touching the faceup as well as any blushed areas. Touching and dressing the dolls is part of the enjoyment, and it's much easier to feel and dress the doll without gloves.

To me gloves would only be necessary during faceup and blushing application, when it's still somewhat wet and could smudge or smear.

    16. At first I was paranoid about it that I tried to handle them with gloves but I never get my proper grip on them that many times I almost drop them.

I just forget about it and make sure my hands are clean to handle them. I only handle my own dolls, and never other people's because I don't trust myself.

    17. I've made it a habit of washing my hands before touching my doll. Other than that, I use gloves when patterning for them, as the chalk and graphite gets everywhere D:

    18. While working on my first face-up ever, I was completely against using gloves. I hate working with gloved hands, they're just so uncomfortable and always get in the way, whether I'm painting, cooking/baking or anything! But I soon learned that I would need gloves for this particular job, as my hands just naturally sweat too much for no apparent reason sometimes... (especially while working on something as delicate and precise as a BJD's face-up :P)

As for handling them in general, the idea pops up in my head often yes, but I'm too lazy to do that every time I want to play with my doll and it's just a useless hassle, don't see how it will damage the doll or it's face-up if it's sealed properly :)

    19. I wear gloves all day (nurse). They are pretty second nature. I don't wear them to play with my toys. However, if it involves painting or raw chicken the gloves are back on. ;)

    20. I only use gloves when doing faceups and such, otherwise no. I wash my hands all the time anyway, after eating, smoking, petting the dog, etc, I don't think its necessary for daily handling.
