How do you carry your dolls?

Jan 26, 2006

    1. I bought a black, SD Dollmore carrier a couple months ago for my lads to transport them around to historical dances, re-enacting encampments, and for future photo opps! :)

    2. I'm not going to Goga, not enough $$, but I will be at Yapoi-con with three of my boys. I'll do the bulk of my purchasing without them and then carry one around for awhile and switch off over the weekend. Though I will probably pack all three down from my room to raid Junkyspot:D:lol:

    3. I haven't taken any of mine to a con yet, but I'm heading to Anime Iowa and Anime Nebraskon this fall. My girlfriend and I are just taking a couple to AI, and all of them to Nkon for the BJD panel we're hosting. They'll only be out for the panel at Nkon in all liklihood, but we plan on carrying the two we're bringing to AI in our arms for part of the day, and in their carriers the rest. They probably won't be out very much at all on Saturday, as that's the busiest time.

Of course, they still need carriers. :sweat

    4. I won't be going to Goga, and I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to DragonCon or not. If I do, I'll take probably 2 or 3 with me. I'll take them to any meets that happen, of course, and probably will carry one around the dealers room looking for fun accessories, but I probably would leave them in the room the rest of the time. Of course I don't do a whole lot more than that except concerts! If I was carrying one I'd just carry him in my arms, probably, but maybe have a purse large enough to stick him in if necessary. I'd probably just take minis, Dev is so heavy compared to them!

I'd probably carry one in my arms and two in a carrier, going to a meet.

    5. I bought a Dollzone carrier bag so they will be in there and take turns being outside of that. That way I can carry other stuff in the carrier too. But I really need to get the cat hair off my receiving blanket stash. Our cat has been sleeping in the baby blanket drawer, apparently. :doh Right now my BBB Long is wrapped in one of the ones that came from the hospital. I want to use the John Lennon one too (it's my favorite... from my first son).

    6. I loved the wagon, that was so MAGNIFICENT!!!! I will carrying my boy in my hands during GGD. Then he will be in the suitcase when I fly. Yo will be in Purse, so I can take picture whenever I want to

    7. When I take dolls to cons, I usually pack a bunch in my big rolling suitcase, unpack them in the room, and then take turns carrying just one or two around in my arms. I found out the hard way not to overload myself--SD sized dolls get heavy after awhile.

    8. Last time I went to a con, I had just bought this giant messenger bag because my old one had a hole. So, I carried her in my arms, and then put her in there when in the dealers room or when someone stopped us to take pictures of us. But I never really do cosplays with props, so I can carry her at the same time easily. I think if I had my keyblade though, and needed to juggle my bag and her, I'd want to keep her away unless we were at a meetup. I just like holding onto her because then I know she's safe, and didn't fall out, I usually carry alot of stuff, including pocky and ramune and art stuff. We're also going to get an Artist Table, so we might store our group's dolls there while we walk around. x3

    9. I have a souldoll carrier, which is really nice, and of course they will travel in that. But I want them more visible at Gogadoll, and I'm only going for Saturday, so I need to carry them around somehow. I've used a pocky bag before, and other bags too.

If you only have an MSD and need an inexpensive but nice padded bag, I picked up a soft trumpet bag on ebay for less than 20 dollars. It's padded, has a nice shoulder strap and a pocket on the outside. It's perfect for MSD size dolls.

    10. ...OMG. One of the ones with the little 'Imagine' print on it?? Crap, now I want to go dig through what baby stuff I still have to see if I can find my daughter's! I LOVED that thing! I had so much stuff from that collection...

      ...okay, off-topic reminiscence over.

I'm not going to Goga (despite wishing I could). For the cons I DO go to, though, I have one of the long skinny SD-sized Dollmore bags that hauls some of my boys around, though I don't take them just randomly around a convention with me. I carry them when I know I have a doll thinger to go with me. For my local convention, though, I put most of them in my roll-y scrapbooking tote and just wheeled 'em along behind me.

(This will not apply to Otakon, since the roll-y scrapbooking tote is not so good for plane rides. Dollmore bag it is.)

    11. A rolling dog carrier would work too at a convention, I suppose.

You know those little rolling dog carriers that have a mesh screen on the front? Well...I have this fantasy of putting a BJD into one of those, and then when someone bends down to look into it at the little doggie...they will see a tiny human face looking at them.

    12. hehe... Actually I have the one in the blue/green tones with the little jungle animals. I think it's called "Musical Parade" or the "Real Love" receiving blanket? I have a couple other items with the same motif. Unfortunately the bib died. But I think I still have the sleeper and the hat along with a onesie and the receiving blanket.

Scrapbooking rolling thingie... now there's an idea. Although I think my 70cm is way too long for that. I do have several sizes of rolling suitcase/pilot case. Those seem to be helpful for when I have a work day at the art gallery. And they fit many other projects in there as well.

I think though for Goga I will try my DZ carrier and see how that goes. If it was a con where I actually planned to stay at the hotel or have a place to set things down I may be inclined to bring their boxes and carry them around individually.

    13. I'll be bringing my two 60cm boys to GoGadoll, but I'll do with them I do any other con and simply carry one around in the crook of my arm, which leaves my other arm entirely free to do as I need to. It's really the easiest way to go for when I'm not carrying one the other will be safely tucked away up in my hotel room, until I buy him something proper to wear, and then I'll switch them out and it'll be the second one's turn to be carried about :)

If I was unable to rent a hotel room then I would just simply choose one doll and carry him around. I see no reason to bring more than I could carry or would have to be constantly switching out. It would be distracting, stressful over watching them all to make sure nothing happened and just not worth all that hassle for the sake of just showing off. The only reason I'd consider bringing one of my minis is for the BJD Spa being held at night as I need help restringing him, and I probably wouldn't bother carrying him around the con at all.

    14. What I'm hoping to do for InnoSera (but first, the Crossroads Doll and Teddy Show) is get a used baby stroller from Goodwill or something. I'll put my 2 dolls in there and push them around so my arms will be free (will be easier to shop and they won't get tired).

    15. I think I just thought of another thing to use. I have a yoga mat with a mesh bag (I've used it once I think ^.^;) and a doll might fit in there. The length should be fine but I'm not sure about the width size. This would be good for carrying it around and still being able to see it, for when you're walking around cons. I'm definitely going to be trying out a bunch of ideas when my dolls finally get here.

    16. I cheat. We have a room at the hotel the convention is being held in, so I can get away with carrying them in my arms, then nipping back upstairs when I get tired. I have a small rolling suitcase or duffle bag that I use for meet-ups and the like, however.

    17. I'll take him in his carrier, but once I am up and about, right in my arms. ^_^

    18. i plan on using a baby stroller and making it look AWESOME but im not going to ggd

    19. Usually at cons I have them in their case and maybe one out in my arms. If I'm just going to the con and there's no meet-up that day, they stay in the hotel room because I just can't carry them. (I now have 5 dolls @_@) I'm probably going to have to try and get some sort of wagon or something for them now. Heh.

    20. I hold Huntyre (my Chiwoo) close to me with his legs straddling my sides, my arm under his butt.

My Ducan Leiland I hold with both arms folded, his legs dangling over my arms sitting.

The rest of my dolls I prop up in my arm like they're relaxing. It's just those two that get super special treatment. :aheartbea
