How do you carry your dolls?

Jan 26, 2006

    1. For me...hmmm. I had this issue recently, and decided to not take mine out.

I wanted to take her with the rest of my stuff - I don't have a case that I can use, plus if my parents knew I was taking my $300 doll out with me... well, you get the idea - I wanted to put together some kind of protective thing I could put into my bag, and she would still be safe from whatever was in there.

Well, I had a pretty hectic week, didn't get to make - or find - something, and in the end, she didn't come. Perhaps next week?

So, for me, it'd be a very '007' style of sneaking her out, protected, and hidden until I reach my destination. To me, taking her in my arms would make me stand out more than I'd feel comfortable.

    2. I don't usually take my dolls out unless I'm going to a meet up or to specifically take photos-I'm usually just too busy. I have a couple of doll carriers I use. I prefer to have them covered with face covers on them to protect them from damage.

In Japan, you will usually will not see anyone walking around with a doll in their arms. The streets and trains are simply too busy and crowded. Everyone I saw when I went there used carriers and that was only at Tenshi No Sato and the Volks event I went to.

    3. If I'm going to be doing a lot of walking, I'll generally put my doll in a bag, and depending it's usually a big gym bag or a yoga bag (depending on how much stuff I brought with me). If it's short trips, he'll stay in my arms, but I switch, cause he is heeeeeavy. I do that sort of thing in the car too. Say I'm going out to a park where I'll be doing a bunch of walking, while in the car he stays in his bag, and I just take him out when I get there, or when I find a good photo spot. However if I'm just going to my mom's, or the ride is to someplace I don't do a lot of walking, I'll sit him in my passenger seat (or the backseat if I have a human passenger). I also put him in a seat belt, cause I've been known to break kinda hard, and I'd hate to go see my boy flying into the dash or something. My family thinks it's hilarious I do that, but I usually put a seat belt on anything that sits in my car to keep it from crashing around. xD

    4. For me it depends on where I'm going, how many dolls I'm bringing with me, and which dolls they are. If it's a situation where I'm going to be walking a lot and want my doll out (think meetup at a park, going to a con etc), I'll carry one in my arms -- but that's one and only one...maybe two if they're both msds, but that's my limit. They can get very heavy after awhile. If I'm in a meetup situation where I want to take several dolls, I use a plastic crate -- they can sit up in the crate with pillows packed around them and be safe. I can carry it myself for the distance necessary to make it from the car to the meetup point. If I'm taking one doll to a meetup, but it's one that's fussy -- dark tan, BW, wig that tangles easily, etc. I'll often just use one of the doll boxes that are hanging around in the closet. I would like to invest in an actual doll bag at some point, but haven't brought myself to shell out the cash for one.

I also have a big rolling suitcase, but I almost never use it -- it's so big and clunky. It's only worth it if I'm bringing *lots* of dolls, and I tend not to like to do that (it just gets to be too many to look after).

    5. I usually carry it with a doll carrier, and just put on with face caps... I personally think it's safer that way because it avoids sunlight/physical contact from other people. Usually doll carrier comes with a belt to protect from dolls falling, but I think it depends....
If it is inside a doll event, I'll just carry him around.

    6. I think the best way to carry your doll is in a bag or cradled in your arms. Otherwise they can get heavy (not that it's a problem. I will proudly deal with the pain when I carry my friend's doll around.) To me it's like carrying around a little person. They kind of are. If you stay close to a doll long enough and give them enough love they begin to gain a soul.

    7. I've noticed a lot of people like to bring their dolls to conventions.I myself discovered the magic of bjds at an anime convention, and I'm planning on bringing my doll to the next convention I attend on at least one day.

I was wondering-what is the most comfortable method of holding your doll when walking around with them at a convention?

    8. For one or two dolls, I usually just carry one of them in one arm and have one in tote bag that
I carry with me. When I take most of if not all my dolls, I have them strapped down in a baby stroller.

Could've sworn there was another thread on this.

    9. I checked, but couldn't find one. Perhaps I'm mistaken?

    10. I leave mine at the doll tables C: I'm a bit worried if I hold them that someone might accidentally knock me or I might trip. I'm pretty accident-prone ^^'

    11. I carry mine, usually in one arm. I'm tall and have long arms, so it's hard for me to carry MSDs XD I feel like they get lost in my arms. But SDs are really comfy to carry.

    12. You don't need to apologize for asking any question. There is no such thing as a stupid question here. BJDs are very complicated dolls compared to other dolls, and it's amazing how many different ones there are. There's something new to learn about each one. I haven't been involved in BJDs for very long, and I'm always learning. I appreciate all the friendly help from the experienced BJDers. Welcome to the family and have lots of fun!

    13. I carry them in a carrier/tote/purse unless I'm attending a bjd panel or visiting in a meet-up. :)

    14. Just carrying them in your arm. My MSD, was a little odd to hold in my arm at first but once I figured it out it wasn't to bad. Now I have to figure out how to hold my SD lol. And my tiny when I get her. I am thinking of investing in a stroller since I do plan on enlarging my collection, and getting one of the 90cm boys whom I might not be able to carry around. But if you just have a doll or two, in your arms might be the best and safest way, I think. In a bag not designed to protect dollies you run the risk of bumping and smushing between people, least I think so.

I've seen some pictures and people who cart their collection around in a little wagon. Seems like a great way to draw some attention to your dollies XD

    15. I'm fairly petite so it's perfectly comfortable to carry my MSD boy around with him cradled in my arms. My friend made him and me matching outfits that are hard to miss so I'm not worried about getting bumped into. :)

    16. I usually only carry one or two with me out to places like this so all I have to do is carry them in my arms. However, when I want to carry them all somewhere, I have a small suitcase I can carry them in. It's big enough to hold them all, and people are usually pretty considerate not to bump into it.

    17. I have a carrying case for them when I go to or from the convention, but at the convention I carry them sitting in the crook of my arm.

    18. hmmmmm depends on how many I am bringing, I carry my SD's in my arms and the MSD's on down to the Puki sized dollies in a tote bag with a sturdy handle and bottom! I also add some of the pillows from the original boxes just in case! I never want my "kids" to get busted on me!

    19. I've not been to a convention yet, but I have taken my boy Asher to the Essen Spiel (a huge games/comics fair in Germany) I had him in a carrier to & from the halls & while I was working but I just had him in my arms walking round the fair. I'm quite short & he's a big guy, but it was quite comfortable & easy to avoid getting him bumped.
It was funny some of the looks I got!
But he was a big hit in the comics halls.
