How do you carry your dolls?

Jan 26, 2006

    1. it depends how far afield i'm going. i often take my boys shopping and in that case i'll just carry whoever i have with me in my arms because i find carriers (especially for my 70cm boy) too unwieldy for everyday use. If i'm going further then i use my carriers simply because i tend to use pubic transport to get to the city because it's easier than driving.

At a con i have no problems with carrying my dolls around aside from the fact that they get heavy, and i only carry one at once so i have at least one hand to do things with.

    2. I transport them to and from wherever we are going in a case. Once there I like to take them out and carry them in my arms. Of course that is if I am staying inside, like in a convention or with friends ect. The minute I go outside or I go anywhere where they could get damaged IE craft area or if it is overly dirty or something, they go back in the case. I am a little paranoid about my boys and them getting into trouble due to someone else's carelessness.

    3. generally i only use cases for travelling, and usually only if i'm going a relative distance. when i get to where i'm going i tend to just carry my dolls. at the only con I've been to so far i carried my 70cm boy all day and i just had to be careful of really crowded spots. He did make my arms hurt because he was heavy though...i think next time i will take my MSD.

    4. As a person who is SCARED of clowns you have no clue how much I appreciate this. Turning around in a crowded area like artist alley and running into a clown is a bad day at a con for me. Even if it is as small and cute as the puki.

I am much the same, I either carry in a case or on me depending on the doll.

I carry my soom cuprit, only cuz she doesn't fit well into my case, my yuri I will carry, but most are in the case inless I am in a place I can stand and post them. As a collector of mostly SD's and the heavy ones like the Soom Super Gems and larger I have a tendency to like there carry bag!

If I am taking more then two, I have a suitecase that rolls that they go in.

    5. Yesterday/today I was just carrying him out and about. I think people were so busy with their own things that for the most part, no one really seemed to notice him. At least no one stared or said anything, though it's possible that they saw someone traveling with a doll during the holidays and thought he was a present for a little girl or something.

I'd like to get a proper carrying case eventually, it would make transportation a lot easier for things like cons, or for a time when I have two dolls I want to take with me and I know I can't just slap one in each arm and go. I mean, how would I open doors, etc.? But even though it was occasionally crowded, I didn't have much trouble just carrying Vince in my arms through the train station/on the train, to/from the car. I had a waterproof jacket to throw over him if the weather turned wet, but he traveled with very little fuss (he's not too big, which makes it easier).

One time I had him with me on a day out (combining a doll meet and a shopping trip) and he spent part of the day out free, part of the day in a tote bag so he wouldn't draw stares, and part of the day in his box (I didn't want to leave him in the car because it was hot, but I also didn't want to risk any potential spills at the restaurant).

      =^__^=

    6. I've done both a case and just carrying them. For me it depends on the doll in question, what I feel like I'm going to be able to handle best that day and where I'm going.

    7. I usually just carry my BJDs around with me. We don't really have any cases, except for messenger bags, and those don't make good cases at times. Least, not with all my textbooks. >.>;; Cases, whether messenger bag or no, are a good idea, though, if you're going to be doing anything for a long period of time. BJDs don't seem that heavy at first, but after a few hours of carrying them... yeah.

    8. It depends on where I'm at,the crowd flow matters the most.
I won't be that bothered about the strange sights of the public, what I'm bothered is whether these people will knock on my boys?
So most of the time , when I'm walking. the boy is in my bjd bag.Places like restaurants or cinemas then he'll be out :O

    9. Dunno if this is much of a debate. The choice of bag VS carry is really down to personal preference and perceived safety. If I'm taking any of my 60cm SD's I'll use a carry bag, because... my arms OTZ

I'm fine to carry my Zaolls if it's just one. I've taken them with me to conventions and in the city sometimes, when I'm stopping by after a meet. Sure, some people might look at you askance, but the compliments always make up for them tenfold.

I have noticed that old ladies always think dolls are pretty :I

    10. At a con, most definitely I carry Chae-ri around in the crook of my arm. In the mundane world, however, I definitely carry her wrapped in her silk travel sleeve and tucked in my bag.

    11. I would use a carry case. Perhaps it's because I'm not comfortable when people stare at me, so I'd like to keep the 'weird' factor as small as I can.

    12. Ivy sits in my Transformers messenger bag if I have to take her out of the house. Don't think I'd be too bothered carrying her around in my arms, but I have a five-year-old to herd so it's just impractical.

    13. I don't particularly feel comfortable carrying around my MSD girl around in public, especially with a lot of people around. So I bring her in the carrying bag. I'm still pretty new with BJDs but at the moment I just like to keep her in my bag safely until after I've had her for a while. And I'm not really ready either to show her off to the public. XD; I'm still getting used to her and knowing more about BJDs so yeah~. But even so, I think I'd still have her in my bag, that way she's in something when I need to put her down.

    14. I think I would use a bag for most traveling--it just seems more practical. If I'm walking around in public, I don't really want to call attention to myself. People would certainly ask questions, which leads to people asking to touch/hold the doll... They wouldn't know how to handle the doll properly; they could drop it for all I know.

...And on that note, being a klutz, I would probably drop my doll two seconds after walking out of the door. :sweat So, the bag it is then.

    15. I use a carrying case for my dolls.

    16. It depends...

Typically, I'll put them in my blue courier bag if I want to take one out for some reason... but not always. Harumatsu (my first Shiwoo-), for instance, travels with me, and I tend to carry him in-hand through airports and such. It's just easier for security checks that way, and when boarding the plane. (I refuse to put him in a checked bag or in the over-head bins due to the risk of damage, so he ends up being my carry-on "personal item". Much to the amusement of a few cabin crew members over the years.)

    17. I don't have a proper case, just a bag I can stuff pillows in, which would only be useful if I were bringing more than one doll. I usually carry my boy in the crook of my arm. It can get tiring after a while but not too bad ^^ In stores, he often rides in the child seat, on top of my purse. Now, after Christmas when I have two dolls, I can see that bag getting some use, especially to and from meets ^^;

    18. It is very instructive to read all these messages, as I friend of mine wanted me to carry my doll along to a knitting afternoon, so that she could have a look at her.
I'll go and have a look for a comfy bag to take her with me!

    19. Well, I have a really nice Hello Kitty Yoga bag I got a couple years ago. However, Hazel usually gets carried. And I bring along Junkyspot cards to share with people too! I like to take pictures of her everywhere, and if she's being carried it's a lot easier to get them. And I don't mind the attention!

    20. If I am taking one or two dolls to a meet I just carry them in my arms. If I am carrying one doll around a convention all day I carry him in my arms. If I am packing many dolls for a meet or for traveling for some reason or if I am taking my kids and their dolls as well as my own dolls to a meet I put my dolls in the carrying case. If I am going to a work meet or taking the dolls plus supplies to work on them or many other things that I have to carry and don't have some one (usually poor hubby) to help me carry stuff then the dolls go into a carry bag for safety. The fact is I hate packing the dolls into the carrying bag. It is inconvenient and takes up a good bit more space than just a doll in my lap or sitting in an unused child's carseat if the kids aren't with us. I don't typically just cart a doll along with me for no reason because I do have kids and it is too much for me to handle kids plus dolls, my kids are still too young and taking them out is like arranging an army assault (ok well it isn't that bad but you get the idea). If I grab a doll to go somewhere with me and it isn't to a meet up chances are it was because I was having a bad day which means I want to be holding the doll. I don't feel better holding a giant DZ carrying case and having to go through the whole process of packing up the doll just to take it along to my parents' house is more trouble than it is worth for me. If I am just going out to the store or something there is no point in my mind to taking a doll if it will be in a carrier the whole time. I don't take dolls out with me very often unless I have a specific reason to (meet ups or conventions) and when I do 9 times out of 10 I would say I take the doll in arms.
