1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you deal with people who think BJDs are for kids

Dec 7, 2011

    1. I don't have a BJD yet, but I know if they thought they were childish I tell them how much work and detail goes into the doll. Tell them why I personally enjoy them. And about the whole vain thing...most people know me not to be vain, but I'd be proud and happy just to have one. I know some people think it's weird but it's something I enjoy. I won't let others ruin it for me. Just brush it off and move on.

    2. I've had this happen to me, and still get this occasionally from my friends and family. One thing I can tell you for sure is there are some people who don't get this hobby, and never will, and if you think your friend is one of them then don't expect her to understand it. It's a total waste of time.
It is very offending though what your friend is saying, and it seems that she's quite assured that her view is the correct one and nothing else is as correct. You should clearly tell her that things she say aren't true at all.
I believe BJDs are not for kids. They happen to be expensive (relative to each other or some, just in general), delicate, have potential market-value and the possibility to become significantly valuable at a personal level. Ask her if she would ever buy a pricy BJD for her kids if she had a kid/kids. She'll probably say, NO, why would I buy my children expensive toys like that? When there are so many kids' toys that are more functional and cheaper? Well, then BJDs aren't just kids' toys anymore. They are meant to be handled with care in order to sustain their beauty and value, and they shouldn't have been if they were kids' toys.
Whenever I get tackled by someone with the same issue, I just say "Thank you for your opinion," and just keep on with my business. Because that is my business, and I won't change my mind or get "righted" by others who are just narrow-minded. They aren't bad people, they're just very insensitive and stubborn. As long as I'm not pouring all my funds onto my hobby that I'll eventually crack my house in half, I think they should just let me enjoy my hobby. That's an adult thing to do.

I hope you resolve your conflict with her. If she's who otherwise is a very good friend, don't fight over an opinion on your hobby. It's your hobby, not your life. Just let her know how you feel about the matter, and don't let her push you around. Good luck!
