1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you decide when to buy a new doll?

Feb 17, 2018

    1. I have to go back and stare at the doll I want multiple times before I decide if I’m gonna buy it

    2. It's always a matter of money to me. If I have the money for a new doll, I buy it. But if not, I simply don't.

    3. For me I plan most of the dolls I want in advance, and then one day for whatever reason I just NEED to purchase them XD then it's a scramble for the money to get them. When that happens I'm pretty impatient!

    4. Whenever I see a sculpt that I like :)

    5. Depends on money and the sculpt. If I know it's a limited edition, then I try my hardest to get it, but sometimes I just have to remind myself it's not as i.important as other things

    6. I wish I had a little more self control when it comes to buying dolls. If I see one that I cannot get enough off & fits perfectly for my character/plans then I'll wait on it for maybe a day or two calculate the price and how much it'll be left in my bank. If it's to much for my poor bank account to handle but i still really want it I'd do a layaway if its not to much then there goes my money.:sigh

    7. I decide when to buy a new doll when it's a.) my birthday, b.) Christmas, or c.) When I actually have the money saved for it if it's not sold out by the time I go to buy it.

    8. I guess it's a matter of instinct plus weighing pros and cons. The more ideas a sculpt gives me for a character, or the more it is like a character I have in mind, the harder it is to resist.

    9. When I have the money

    10. I have a few dolls on my wishlist and when I come across them second hand it's usually hard to resist! But I do have a super secret savings account for just such occasion! Lol

    11. Typically it takes two-four paychecks before being able to buy a SD doll (well, something in the $500 range). And since that's 1-2 months, it typically gives me enough time to make sure I want it.

The problem comes from special promotions and special sales. Like right now there is a special on April Story's website where you can get $640 with shipping. Ugh. I could use a 0% interest promotion. But, these things are where I struggle. lol.

    12. OMG that sale! You get 2 dolls and another kid doll free right? That is crazy tempting, I feel your pain!

    13. When a doll jumps out, grabs me by the throat, and says. "BUY ME!"

    14. 1. I see a sculpt I absolutely can't live without!
      2. I have the money and don't have other pressing needs.
      3. I don't have a ton of dolls on layaway already.
      4. I have the space and time for it.

Pretty much the first one rules everything. I have too many dolls, but keep buying because of 1.

    15. I'm always trying not to! I love my dolls and feel complete with them. However, every once in awhile... I see a doll I can't resist and doesn't remind me of a doll I already have. If I have the funds, I will definitely consider it.

    16. Right now I'm in the same boat as you, OP... I'm trying to force myself to wait until the dolls I've ordered get here, but it's hard. ;A;

My current rule is NO MORE DOLLS unless they meet all of the following criteria:
      1) They're being sold second hand/in stock at an American dealer (shorter wait time)
      2) They're one of the dolls on my wishlist
      3) Their cost lies within the limits of my "treat yoself" bank account

That may seem like a dangerous condition but all of my wishlist dolls are dolls that I have never actually seen for sale outside of the company itself... Some of them not even that. @_@

    17. Those are goodcrules to implement

    18. At least price and what brand the doll is doesn't really matter to me. To me if i want a doll i will get it, it's just a matter of when and how. The first thing I look for in a doll is how much the sculpt matches the character I have in mind for it. And once I find what I'm looking for I have my heart set on.

    19. i would ask for a new doll for my birthday or any other day you get presents, or if you have the money you need, just buy one when you have EVERYTHING figured out (the name, the style, the story, the exact doll, size, sculpt, etc) and try not to get too many dolls in one year. i would get two in one year at the most.

    20. Since pretty much all the dolls I like are Limited I get it when it's available and when I have the funds. However I am picky and like dolls from a handful of artists so it's not too bad.
