1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you display your dolls?

Oct 2, 2011

    1. I generally keep them boxed up. Every now and then I'll take out one or two, put them on stands, and set them on my coffee table for a few days to gaze at and enjoy. :)

    2. Mine are sitting on one of my bookshelves. The shelf above them holds all their little props, and the one below boxes with clothes and larger decor items (yes, also fake moss :P). They are pretty well shielded from direct sunlight and/or hard room lights, and I haven't noticed any yellowing yet.
I would love to make more of a display out of them though. It would be perfect to have a (antique) large cabinet in which I could build an actual scene, and close the doors if I want to protect them for some reason (party going on, children visisting, pets running loose etc). Right now I only change their positions lightly and give them something to read or play with.

    3. I have a tv table with no tv that mine stand/sit on. My LE Iplehouse twins are in a uv-resistant doll case as a precaution, my pukipuki goes almost everywhere with me in a padded bag in my purse and lately my Dollmore Lusion had been hanging out at my bed since she's such a pain to get standing (and rather cuddleable at night)

    4. Has anyone ever heard of a blackout drape to go over a glass case? I have a glass case I would like to use, but I would need something to cover it with.

    5. Super Congrats about thinking.. about taking the plunge :sweat

I keep my girls on their stands, bc I can't imagine keeping them under my bed. I paid the extra money to have Volks coat them to help them keep their looks. I'm very careful about keeping the blinds/curtains closed in the room that they are kept. It's one of the front rooms of the house, so it's not like I'm going to have it open for the whole neighborhood to see inside

I had a Volks Sofa, but thought it was too big for my MSD sized family.. & I'm so kicking myself for not keeping it. However I use to have them share the sofa :aheartbea

Bookshelves, bookshelves, bookshelves! Soon I won't have any room left for books...

    7. Ok, so hopefully this hasnt been asked before, but....

I have my dolls displayed on 2 long shelves, then i put up some corner shelves, but now i have too many to fit on all the shelves. I dont want them to look like "cattle" just herded and squeezed into one area, but i have a 2 year old and they have to be out of her reach. They are all lined up on their doll stands, so when i finish one, up he/she goes with the rest. i love how other people on here have them sitting or more integrated into their daily lives. Im tired of them standing all in a row. They are all up high, so taking them down to play with is hard, and id love to do that.

My question is, anybody know of any other way to display your dolls that doesnt involve standing them on doll stands?

    8. There was once a picture I found online of a baker's rack being used to display someone's large BJD collection... it was a very cool idea to me at the time. They had it displayed right there between their kitchen and living room.

    9. I intend to sit my boy Bernie on the top shelf of my bookcase when I get him a body. It's well within my reach and well out of reach of any of my little cousins and the like that traverse through my room.

    10. I sit my girl on a bookcase, we have two of the shelves positioned to be large enough for tall books and folders so she sits there quite comfortably. We only have cats and they ignore her (a miracle in my eyes) so she sometimes sits by the TV, on the coffee table, in my wheelchair. Wherever I feel like putting her really.

    11. I saw someone on here have a glass display case with shelves in it. I thought that would be a very cool way to display my doll and various figures that my fiance and I own.

    12. Each time I figure out a good display for my dolls, they seem to invite in friends & make a crowded party again!
I chose a corner of our bedroom for my doll display as my kids know this is "my space" & they should treat it w/ respect. Plus it had the blank wall space & the fewest sunlight issues! My favorite display "unit" is a computer desk w/ a back shelf which let me put dolls on two levels in one place. The wider table top let me group couples together, & let a few of the dolls sit down to visit, at least to begin with! X0
If your family doesn't mind you "decorating" with dolls, I have seen where some folks have created beautiful scenes w/their dolls in various rooms of their house. With the possibility of friends visiting my teenage son, I figured keeping my dolls out of the public space was a better plan. Plus my DH already has been very kind about the shelves of antique & baby dolls I have about the house!
Here's a photo of the "creeping doll invasion"...

Since I'm not worrying about a toddler, the undershelf space was immediately snagged by some of the dolls! But it would have been a good place to stash accessory tubs if there'd been little ones about. :) And we don't have a dog to worry about, only an old fat cat who's too lazy to bother with the doll corner.

And the ones who've snuck into the living room this winter...

    13. You coule get glass display cases (the modern ones like from Ikea; not the giant china cabinets) and padlock them I suppose.

    14. As Satoru said, Ikea offers good and affordable options to display and secure your dolls. I've myself two VERY playful cats and sometimes they break things by accident, so protecting the BJD was crucial !
I use their common furniture and you have a good choice of glasses for.

I put my centaurs in the biggest, but I've dolls in another one, which is half width, too.

About these two, I have some concerns to make the "interior" pretty though. I need to make it less empty, but lack of ideas. >>"

    15. Oh you could do one of those like wallpaper backgrounds where it looks like they're outside in a field or something ^.^

    16. I have two Ikea Billy Bookcases with half glass doors for display. They are away from direct sunlight and the best part is no dust settling on them!

    17. I just have a small shelf that I display all my dolls with, its not much... but its facing the same way the windows are so the light doesnt hit them which is nice :3

    18. Right now they are all (with the exception of my Dahlia who is too large) seated on my bookshelf. I'd prefer to have them on stands behind glass but I don't have space for the type of unit I'd like to keep them in right now.

    19. a specific corner of my bedroom is the 'doll corner'. it's directly behind my computer chair and by a window, with the dolls all seated on different types of furniture, i.e beds & chairs, or the occasional doll stand or box-converted-into-seat. sometimes i place them in my window, but generally prefer to keep them in the shaded part of the corner (i have one doll who i inadvertently left on a doll stand where she got ~3 hours of direct sunlight every day for ~3 months, and now she has yellowing tanlines!). anyway, the corner, it's arranged in an L-shape with a carpet filling the empty L-space so i can sit on the floor and play with, dress, or photograph them. i keep my doll supplies (clothing, eyes, wigs and practical stuff like putty or scissors) nearby, mostly stored under my computer desk so they are within easy reach at all times.

one day i might take a picture. anyway, the doll corner is only for dolls that i [currently] plan on keeping. whenever i decide to sell a doll or that i am going to sell the doll in future, i usually store them in their box, a doll carrier, or one of those padded pillowcases with zippers that some doll companies give away so that i can minimize any environmental damage like dust or yellowing for the benefit of their next owner. there has been one exception to this and i haven't made a sales thread for her yet because i'm still a bit torn on selling her.

    20. My dolls are displayed on my desk and chest. A curio would be the best!
