1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you display your dolls?

Oct 2, 2011

    1. Mine are in glass cabinets all around my dining room. Some visitors can hardly eat as they're so freaked out by all the eyes upon them.

    2. Everyone chills out on the headboard of my bed. =v= As soon as I get the chance though, I'm going to make some shelves. It's a little troublesome to whack my head on little feet when I'm lying down!

    3. I currently keep all my dolls stored away for light/space reasons. But eventually, I do plan on having a display case for them. It will be made of UV-treated glass (to reduce UV damage to the dolls), and kept in a room that doesn't get direct sunlight. I might also keep it covered some of the time (for example, during times when everyone in the house is out working). I definitely plan on making displays with props (mostly furniture, but I also have plans for some stained-glass windows and other architectural features).

To picture ageing coloured resin, it helps to know that red pigment is the fastest to fade out, and that resin itself turns yellow. So, for example, I would predict that purple resin would green as it ages (the red pigment fading, leaving behind only blue, and the resin yellowing. Blue+yellow=green).

    4. I never display them. I made a bed for them beside my bed with a blanket so the most of the time he's sleeping. I would like to treat my doll more in a friendly way. Sometimes I imagine if I were him. It would be tiring to stand up for such a long time. It makes me uncomfortable. Sitting down is fine. I know I'm weird...

    5. I don't. Mine stay in the boxes or bags when I don't have them out. Why, you might ask? I don't want to risk them getting yellowed (number one) I don't want to risk anything happening to them (I own dogs, a cat, rats, and a cockatoo and something would go wrong. I can just see it), and number 3: my mother doesn't know exactly how many dolls I own and I don't want to enlighten her at this point.

    6. I only own one doll at this point, so space is not an issue. However, if yellowing wasn't a problem, I'd keep him to look at on my computer desk all day if I could. This is where I am a good portion of the day. The only problem is I like to open the blinds to look out the window during the daytime. He would be basking in sunlight all day long x_x; I want to see him once in awhile, so storing him away in a box isn't an option ether. So he lives in my bedroom, where the blinds are drawn all the time. It's the best I can do for now without making the house dark all the time.

    7. I have mine in doll chars on top of my dresser. My curtains are closed almost all of the time, so now yellowing!

    8. I currently only have one doll, and she sits in a little chair on my desk. In the near future, I'll be getting a bigger desk to accommodate my two computers, but also for my doll, and the new one I'm saving up for, and future dolls. Since I pretty much live my life on my computer (online schooling) it's nice to have my doll there with me. She keeps me company and I don't feel so alone in my room

    9. I have one doll and he usually hangs out in various places in my room. One time I had him looking like he was being squeezed between my books. Another time I had him poking out from beneath my bed like it was some kind of secret hang out spot. Although most of the time he just sits around. I only put him in such weird places to allow some creative means to his character. Any other time he sleeps in his box.

    10. I found a little park bench at a thrift store and they mostly sit (sometimes stand) on it on top of a bookcase next to a window. I don't "hide" them away, I spent money on them I'm going to have them out so I can look at and play with them whenever. I've recently got my Mom into the hobby so looking at them helps her...she's looking into getting one herself. Here's a pic (please excuse the off topic dolls) [IMG]

    11. one day i will buy a huge glass display cabinet for all my dollfies and anime figures, or any other related items(which there is many), prob separate cabinets so i can even store all their clothes in there.

    12. I am slowly shifting everything around in my house so I can bring in a major step in the process going on... To properly house my sprawling collecting. I bought a huge china cabinet [thrift store find] that I plan on painting and turning into a set/home for them. Right now it is sitting on my porch. It has a bowed glass center section. Yikes. I need inspiration, before my neighbors begin a protest. I am one of those people who has to be constantly reminded that dreaming it, and getting it half done, is not doing it. ;) ~ This is a fun thread to look in on. Inspiration! {I am in my "one day" years...funny I should write this just after Sousuke expressed a similar plan.

    13. At home, I used to keep them on top of a book case but my cat knocked one down before, so now they stay inside the book case, protected behind glass. I'd like for them to have their own display set up at some point though. At school, I keep them boxed up in my closet so that if my roommate has anyone over, the dolls are safely away. When they're in my boyfriend's room, who has no roommate, I keep them on his desk usually. He doesn't mind them, luckily.

    14. Mine are out on display sitting on a cabinet. I move them around a bit so they sit on table tops as well.

    15. I was wondering if anyone displays their dolls in anything besides the traditional doll house/room boxes? I know not everyone has the space or inclination for special doll displays, but if you do (or plan to) I'd love to see what you've created!

    16. I am dying to come back to this thread to find out that someone has a *starfighter cockpit* for their doll. :D

Maybe I should make one, except my doll is on order and not here yet and I don't trust myself to do measurements right, even if it's only cardboard. Heh.

    17. I have some hands i have cast that hang on the wall and hold dolls... a few painting i made that has a shelf/stand/chair for a specific doll to stand in front of, and i was working on a painting which has a steampunk plane that the front half will jut out and have a seat for the doll to sit on and the back half of the plane is painted on the canvas. Sorry for no pics, they are incorporated with off topic hand made dolls or in storage. Part of my senior thesis was incorporating the dolls i made into other traditional forms of art..... came up with a lot of interesting things.

    18. I don't have a room box or doll house, but would like to make one some day (room box that is). So, in the mean time I have this cupboard to store my Lati Yellow's clothes (I only have 1 doll right now, more on the way), and display her safely from the curious hands of my kids.

It was a jewelry box that I modified to suit my needs. The lid had a mirror and a ring holder which I took out and replaced with the accessories holder and a plain tray. The cupboard had a necklace carousel in front of a mirror. I took out the carousel and covered over the mirror, then I added the wood divider and shelving. And of course everything is all matchy-matchy! Dolly and hanging clothes on the right, blankets, shoes, undies on the left.

    19. Waldo, that is ADORABLE! Personally I just put benches on my wide dresser where my dolls hang out together when they aren't at my boyfriends house on the shelves built into his room :)

    20. Waldo, this is AWESOME! I really love this...and might have to search my local stores to find a jewelry box on sale to create my own display like this. Thank you for sharing.

I would love to do a display, but I have no room other than displaying them. But, now with getting a nude basic cupid pukipuki doll, being his size, I'd like to create something. If I do, I will definitely share with everyone.
