How do you display your dolls?

Oct 2, 2011

    1. After been in boxes for many years, I decide to take my dolls out. I still working on it, I need more space :sweat I need to put another more 8 or 9 dolls, so I will need another bookcase *_*.
I did this bookcase 99.5% UV protected, I installed a UV protection film on the glass of the doors and lights (I'm not sure if regular LED emits any UV, I guest not). That UV film is used in museums and buildings to protect furniture and textiles colors from the sun. That film is not hard to find, you can buy it on Ebay.

    2. I'd really love to see more doll display or storage areas~ I'm planning a space for my dolls--currently they're tucked away in carriers or their boxes when I'm not taking pictures of them, and I'd like to have them out to enjoy how pretty they are on a regular basis--but I don't feel safe just leaving them laying around at random.

    3. Wow, Vevet, that display case is gorgeous!

      My dolls chill out on my bookshelf, away from the sun. I have one of them with me at college, and he hangs out on my desk. It's nice to have someone cheering me on to do homework. ^^;;

    4. Your display is amazing, it looks great ^^.

    5. I have pull out storage under my bed. I've decorated it with some fabric and the pillows I got with my dolly. She looks super cute in there!

    6. I have my dolls in their boxes. But normally I display the in my living room. One I own is on a classic chair the rest must be seated on a bank that is like the chair, classic. I hope the light is not to hard on them!

    7. Omgosh @ vevet

So well done. Very tasteful. Simple. Makes it look very high end!

    8. Most of my kids live on the two top shelves of my bedroom bookcase. Johnny and Chaeri, my special ones, have a house of their very own to themselves that also sits beside my bed. I see them when I go to bed every night and when I wake up in the morning. It's very cool.

    9. How do you display your dolls? I haven't received my girl yet, but I have 3 small jointed dolls that I just bought a little birdcage for. It's normally used as a candle holder but I think it's gonna be adorable. I haven't figured out what I'm gonna do with my girl doll yet when she is not being played with. Should I get her a chair? Should I just have her on a stand. I just don't know yet. What do you do?

    10. I have rooms set up for my dolls in our spare bedroom. Shelving was built in, and separated into bedrooms, a teen hang out, and a bar, and my dolls normally sit in one of those places. My grail doll is a Pharaoh, so he gets his own throne on a marble table for display. The only one that doesn't hang out in the doll room is my Doll Chateau Faramita. Because he's so tiny and weird and out of scale with the others, he sits on the bookshelf in the den, watching everyone who comes and goes (and probably creeping a few people out).

I would recommend leaving your doll sitting while you aren't playing with her, either in a chair or on a shelf. A sitting doll is much less likely to fall or get knocked over, but if you really want her standing, just make sure you get a good, strong heavy-weight stand that supports her well enough. Some people have glass cases, curio cabinets or other displays. Others keep the doll off display in a box or closet to stay safe. Also, make sure she's not in direct sunlight, shady places are better to prevent fast yellowing. And if you have cats, very active dogs, small children, or clumsy people in your house, make sure she's out of the way where she won't get grabbed, knocked over or chewed on.

    11. My vanity has been converted to the official display for the dolls. I have several on stands (the larger Sooms) the msd's in their own small chair, and the SD's and larger on the large velvet Dollmore couch I bought last year. My room is dark in the daytime and the lamplight does face away from them in the evening. The others are sitting on my dresser covered by heavy blankets. Spare heads are in a dark box away from all light until I need them.

    12. I mainly use a pair of bookshelves set up back to back; one is half the height of the other, and the back of the taller one is removed from that level up, so it gives me a broad shelf at that level and open ones the rest of the way up. The dolls "live" in the visible parts of this area, with the largest group taking the broad shelf, and spare parts live on the shelves that, because of room layout, are partially hidden. Each occupied shelf has some amount of furniture on it for the dolls to use; only one is standing, and he's on a stand to keep him stable. The rest have benches, chairs, sofas, and beds to sit on and keep them safe. They're out of the direct line of light from my window, and aren't being hit by the light from the room either. (I plan to change the bulbs out to LEDs in the near future so I don't have to be concerned about that anymore.)

The one SD has a separate place, a chair on a different shelf, because the system was set up with MSD and smaller in mind, but that shelf, too, is out of the line of sunlight.

    13. I have chairs and stands but not enough space for my lot, a shelf a bookcase and a cabinet in the living-room takes most of them (but is a bit overcrowded in places), with the teeniest ones (Banji's and Pukis) either in the rooms set up on my bedside table or in front of the books on the bookcases in the sewing room depending which is closest when I need to put them down.

The Lusion Daish has her own child-sized chair in a corner of the living-room by the doll-shelves

    14. The first image is a view from my door. I have my dolls displayed on my desk. From the left I have a miniature blue dresser that I bought from a craft store. I think it's supposed to be a desk organizer. I use it to store my rements. I paid $9 for it. The little table and chairs I bought on Etsy and dished out more money for that then anything else. Next to that is a jewelry case that looks like a little closet/curio cabinet. I use that to store other BJD stuff. I bought this marked down at T.J.Max for $40. Normally these types of jewelry cases go for $60 to $80. To the right of that are hollow books. I use those to store BJD clothes/shoes/accessories. The black metal chair was $10 from Michael's. It's meant for your garden so you can place a pot on it. Under that is a small plush red/white chair that I bought from Joann's. It's actually supposed to be a pin cushion but it's a great chair and the cushion even lifts up which gives me more storage :D And finally the wooden chair is an American Doll chair I think. I put a hollow book under it to give it more height. That only cost me $25 on ebay including shipping. I really like my set up and have made improvements to my room to keep as much light out as possible buy investing in roman shades on ebay to go over my horizontal blinds. I like having my dolls on display instead of keeping them in a closet.

    15. XYumekoX--Nice room and nice set-up for your dolls!

Mine just sprawl around where there is space. I need to get some shelves put in someday! *_*

    16. MSDs or smaller are really easy to have them sit anywhere. They can go on my bookshelf or desk. Its the big ones that need a little more help. I think at this point with the big dolls I'll be making/buying a dollie couch for them to lounge on (especially as the Iplehouse dolls have trouble sitting). My JID Colin (again Iplehouse) can't sit well either so I have him on a doll stand. Stands are pretty cheap and can be found at any craft store, furniture I've noticed is expensive unless you hunt down something at a Toys R US.

    17. I have a really nice clear stand that I bought for a floppy doll I had, but as sturdy as that was, I wouldn't trust my doll to it on top of my desk. A chair has four legs and I'm most comfortable with that and I like my dolls to look as natural and comfortable as can be. You can find really cheap miniature furniture at Michael's or Joann's. Miniature furniture is in now. So I have found garden stuff that looks like furniture. Desk organizers that pass for furniture. I even found a pin cushion for my yosd that looked just like a plush chair. Just keep your eye out for it and you will find it. The only furniture I have bought that was meant for dolls was my leopard print American Girl doll chair and a table and chairs set I bought on Etsy. After that, everything else was stuff made for another purpose that also worked as doll furniture and because it wasn't meant to be doll furniture it was half the cost or less!

    18. I have a coffee table converted into something like an "apartment" that's set up in a corner of my living room (away from direct sunlight). The basic layout was stacked with empty puzzle boxes. The "Furniture" are bits and pieces that I've found in second-hand stores and garage sales and they range anywhere from jewellery boxes to coasters. But if you keep your eyes out, there are a lot of things that can be pressed into service. I have Christmas tree ornaments that have become cushions and hug-pillows. A larger tree ornament turned into a snow globe. I'm also in the process of building a couch that also doubles as a storage unit from a plastic planter. This is what the place looks like so far:

      Hope this helps!

    19. My Tiny Lati White SP so far stays in his crib (so he doesn't get lost of knocked over) while my Nobility Royce sits on my Futon :) I know I should keep him boxed up but I feel comforted having him around

    20. I've been wondering if it's ok to have them sitting if not playing with them. I was concerned about stretching the elastic. I have my sitting :)
