How do you display your dolls?

Oct 2, 2011

    1. I've never had problems with leaving their clothes on for extended lengths. But I also don't have any dark clothes for them, I think the main problems are dark clothes, especially black. As far as wigs, when I store them or move them I take the wigs off, more to keep them from getting tangled than anything. But I also forgot to remove Davey's brown wig when I moved. She stayed in the box for several months (just for protection) and no problems. Even before I started removing wigs and left hers on for months at a time I never had problems.

As far as displaying, I used to display my dolls in my closet. It was a wide closet (it had width and no depth as opposed to most closets) and I had a dresser in there too which is where they sat on little chairs with a tea table, my room got a lot of sun so when I wasn't home I closed the doors on the closet, but when I got back I'd open them up again. So the closet was more of a nook in that sense. I had plans to remove the doors and put up curtians instead but we moved before I finished the project. Now my closet is much to small to do so. And my room has two walls which are nothing but windows and I don't have adequate blinds to feel comfortable leaving my dolls out. But when I'm home I typically get Alice out and put her on my bed if I'm staying in my room for a while. At night and when I'm at work or not home she stays in her box. I don't like the situation but I can't change the way our house is so... it has to work for now.

    2. I keep my boy sitting out on my dresser shelf with my other dolls. I used to keep him in the box all the time, but it depressed me and I enjoy playing with my dolls constantly. Plus, when I'm really sad and I need a pick me up, I enjoy just admiring his beauty. He's going to yellow regardless of whether I keep him locked up or not. I paid alot of money for him, so I'm going to enjoy every minute I have with him. Despite me feeling that way, he's still kept out of direct sunlight; I live in Florida, so he'd probably get damaged really quick...lol

    3. My dolls mainly sit on the tiered shelving connected to my desk, but as of late my Dollfie Dream has somehow ended up claiming my gaming rocker. :sweat I don't really worry about yellowing as I have blackout curtains that are always drawn--mainly because I live in a dangerous area on the ground floor, but also because I have a lot of red things and resin in my various collections that I don't want fading/yellowing. On top of that I only use LED bulbs, so it really isn't an issue. I guess it makes up for the short amounts of time I do take my dolls outside, as I am in a tropical area where the sun believes that it is welcome to sit directly on top of us.

I don't really worry about staining, either, unless we're talking about my DD--who I only dress in light-colored clothes for this very reason. Max and the other resin kids tend to pick up small stains, but they've always been easily taken care of with the help of a Mr.Clean Magic Eraser. And deeper stains, though I haven't encountered one yet...well, they're easily sanded out.

    4. well since ive moved in with my boyfriend he doesnt really like bright light the lights are off all day and he puts a thin blanket over the window so its just perfect for me to put my dolls up on the shelf.

    5. I usually keep Zarek either in his box when I'm not around or just bring him around the house with me in case I'm suddenly inspired to draw a picture.

    6. I usually don't display them all out in the open because I'm paranoid about sunlight and dust settling, but I have one of those iron chair things from Dollmore and usually I rotate which doll gets to sit in it ^^ the rest stay in my closet most of the time when I'm not playing with them or taking photos.

    7. I usually keep them in their carriers or their boxes. My room is small and it's quite messy, so I rarely have any open surfaces where I can place them without fearing they will drop to the floor or they'll get crushed if something falls on their heads (I have shelves on 3 of my walls and the 4th has a large window) but I wish to expand my room or move to a larger room in my home so I can set up a miniature home for them; I already own some furniture so creating a miniature BJD home where I can photograph them is my dream. :)

    8. They just sit in a little area on my book shelf. Nothing against people who protect them and keep them stored away, but I just seeing them =)

    9. My doll sits on a wooden Volks chair on my dresser~ I recently bought a doll stand for her at Michael's for $2 (hurray for exchanging and discounts!) so I can properly display her at my AA table next month at a local convention~

    10. My tiny has a little bed in his room, which is in the corner of my room. He usually just lays there all the time. But I cart my MSD boy around the house with me, so he usually just ends up sitting wherever I am, then goes beside my pillow at night.

    11. I'm a closet gal, I'll admit it. But you can see all of the dolls if you open the door, a lot of them have places to sit, it's really a very nice closet.... for.... a closet..... *cough* Anyway, I plan on moving into my basement soon, so hopefully I'll be able to convert a large built-in cabinet down there into a doll space, again, with solid doors to keep light out (not that there will be much of it down there...) and plenty of space inside to create their 'rooms'. Display for me is showing off your doll without playing with it, but I want my dolls to be as comfortable as possible, so I'm hoping I'll be able to find enough furniture and props to create proper rooms for them all. ^ - ^

      Hey, I can dream.

    12. My doll rolls around in bed with me @_@ is that bad..... XD;;;;; she also rolls around on my desk too or on the couch eh mostly i bring her where i go or she is placd on my bed hiding in plushies from the sun.

    13. I have a very small bedroom and it's the only place I can display my dolls, because I'm a grown adult and unfortunately my dolls look very realistic and freak my visitors out (LOL)...

Anyway, the way my room is set up: there are two doorways

Walk into the doorway on the left and there is a doorway to my bathroom, then a doorway to my closet. Hang a right around my queen size bed and there is a huge window with no room for anything between the window and the foot of my bed. Hang another right and there is a dresser in the corner, then a window and then a jewelry armoir in that corner, then the other doorway that leads out of my bedroom.

So, not a whole lot of options. I was thinking about shelving units and using a doll stand. I have Dollmore's HaYarn Cho and LUTS' Zuzu Delf Toya. I plan to have a male Killian at some point.

so if you were to do a shelving unit, how would you display your doll on it? Anything to kind of make the dolls "pop"? Props?

    14. I'd decorate a bookcase (or just a shelf or two of one, depending on how many dolls), to look like an open-sided doll house.

    15. The "master" bedroom is small, but my husband let me have my dolls in our room.
I have an old TV cabinet a friend gave me.
My MSD dolls, their furniture, their clothes etc. are all inside.
Freaks my husband out when he opens the doors and someone is sitting up on a bed or in a chair.
My dream is to eventually have a doll house in a doll room with all their things.
Anyway, if I didn't have my cabinet I would use bookshelves for a house and make rooms for them.

    16. I have an odd cube shelf on my wall that I've had for years and started putting my BJDs on as their display unless I take them down to play with them. There's only one window in my room and it's covered with a thick black curtain that's stabled to the wall so absolutely no sunlight gets in, I did that long before I first started collecting so I didn't have to change too much

    17. I'm waiting on my first dolls and have not bought my display yet, but they'll be displayed in a large bookcase with a glass door on it. They will not be out of sight, but I will have dark curtains over the windows to limit exposure to UV light and the display will be in a room that only has one window. Don't know what will change when we move, but I'll still take precautions concerning sunlight. I'll never not display them, though. I would feel terrible leaving any of my cherished possessions stuffed into some dark area somewhere, especially since I feel there are other ways of dealing with the issue.

    18. I plan to store mine on a high shelf next to my window. But before you faint, here's why. That corner doesn't actually get any sunlight thanks to how the sun rises and sets in my area. It's perpetually in shadow. ^^ When I get more dolls I will have them on display in my closet if I can remember to close the doors during the day. The only place I can put their "set" or room if you'd like to call it, is in the corner on the other side of the window on a large chest. But that area gets a lot of sunlight, so they can't stay there.

    19. I keep my dolls on their boxes because I'm to afraid of yellowing and I don't really like exposing them in my flat...But when I want to have them with me I sat them near my computer in a really cool position, so they can relax XD

    20. My boys stay inside a book shelf I have. Though there isn't enough room for both of them AND their favorite things on one shelf. I'll need to rearrange my stuff, since I really like using that shelf for them and their things. I also have a separate drawer for dolly maintenance and their clothes.

The shelf is perfect because it's enclosed, easily accessible, and perfect for dollies to hang out in without being in any direct light. OuO
