How do you display your dolls?

Oct 2, 2011

    1. All five of mine are out. Three are standing, and two are sitting on a large doll couch. In my opinion, there is no point in owning dolls that I can't see. However, if I acquired one of my grail dolls, I would at least take better care with wig and clothes placement to further prevent staining.

    2. I have a doll couch that sits on one of my tables and I have them sitting there for anyone to see. ^^

    3. Thanks, everyone, for explaining the various ways to display (or not) with the dolls.

I intend to display them FOR SURE. I'm going to go with shelves. I just concerned about them falling off the shelves, esp if they're standing up. Obviously, going to get a doll stand for my HaYarn cho, my zuzu delf toya may also be standing, and my Killian may be standing, not sure, but the reason is because if even one of them are sitting it might take up too much space....that's how small my stupid shelves have to be. just so worried about them falling off. Cuz the shelf won't be that big. There just won't be enough room on the wall. So many windows = limited wall space. Plus I only really get to have half the room. The other half belongs to my fiance, who displays his comic books and media.

I'm not concerned with sunlight because...well.. I'm a vampire. I began working midnight shift jobs at age 17 right out of high school and so my bedroom is painted a very dark plum with light proof blinds and curtains. IT's always dark in there, lol. My problem is lack of wall space. Where ever I put the shelves, the shelves won't stick out very far. The shelves also will be a bit high up, cuz I don't want anyone to run into them lol

Definitely going to need some doll stands. Perhaps even securing the doll stands to the shelves. I may put HaYarn Cho in a sitting position with zuzu delf toya sitting on her lap, and Killian standing. Thoughts??

Hmm...would a photo of the wall space I'll be working with help? Maybe you guys can link me to some shelves with doors that would fit on the wall space in question.

    4. I built a big couch that sits on a card table in the corner of my room. ^_^ I could probably fit 6 SDs on it. I also decorated that corner of the room for them too. :3

Here are where my dolls are now, which is not actually their proper place. The couch actually goes inside of the TV cabinet they are on top of. I got it off Craigslist and refinished it. The TV section fits my shorter SDs standing, the couch (thrift store find) fits in it, it has a carpet sample, and closes up to allow very minimal light in (along with the blinds being closed in the room 90% of the time) I have a stand I occasionally use, but I prefer to keep them in the more secure sitting position.

    6. This is something I've never considered O_O
I may get them a glass case, I'd hate to have it in a box all the time to keep the dust off!

    7. mine just sits on my bookshelf. he doesnt face direct sunlight so its fine for me.. i like to display him, whats the point of having a beautiful doll if you dont display them? he looks very at home on my shelf. :)

Kind of out of date photo, as we now have a Volks MDD Rena in the middle, and some outfits have changed. But, this is how our girls are normally arranged. I'd like to get a small curtain to put in front of their shelf or something, sometime. Their boxes are all in our bedroom closet as we have no attic being in an apartment at the time. All their clothes and wigs are in the chests they're sitting on, and then some more on lower shelves. But, some days my ladies some out and sit on my desk with me for the day--like right now, actually! :)

    9. My girls sit on my book shelf! And I agree.. I didn't spend all that money to have them stored in boxes. Though, I do limit the sunlight in my room.

    10. It varies. If I'm going to be up working in the bonus attic room where my dolls are kept, they'll typically be out, sitting or standing on the dresser, so I can see and enjoy them. This room has antique non-tinted windows on one wall and several skylights, though, so if it's extremely sunny out... or in... then I'll either move them to a shady bookshelf or put them on their bed and cover them up. They get moved around a lot, but I don't feel weird leaving them 'put away' in their bed for several days in a row, either.

As for staining, yes... I worry about it, but only if there's a possibility it might not come off. Usually all it takes are a few swipes with a magic eraser to get rid of it. But if I have some clothes I am pretty sure will stain, I wash and soak them repeatedly until it's no longer an issue. Yes, mom and sister are no longer surprised to find miniature pants in the washer... ;)

    11. It depends on how I want them displayed and what's available to stand them with.

Sometimes they'll be standing on my desk. Other times they'll be sitting on a recliner. Of course, when somebody wants to sit on the recliner, I move them.

I have more dolls than stands, so there's either always somebody sitting on the recliner or some hugging for stability while standing going on.

    12. I typically just move them around to different parts of my apartment. I may have one on the bookshelf near the front door, another on my nightstand, and another hangin out in the dining room. I just move them around on a whim.

    13. I don't really *actually* display my dolls much. I used to have a room with four windows facing my bookshelf with dolls in it, so all of my dolls were constantly behind two heavy curtains in the bookshelf. In my bedroom in my new house there are only two windows and they don't face my doll shelf. I still keep them behind the thick curtain though, but now I get to set the dolls around the room whenever I'm home and feel like seeing them. I'm considering taking down the curtain or replacing it with a sheer curtain once I cover the windows better.

    14. Most of mine are in the living-room:

Except the teenie-tinies (Puki and Banji's) who tend to eb wherever they uend up aorudn the house but have a temporary base in a set of rooms on my bedside unit (until their castle is built):

    15. mine is on my computer tower even though she has her own room oTL

    16. I would keep my future doll sitting on my dresser or on a display case. (:

    17. I've moved 5 times since I started living with ABJD! I like to keep my dolls in sight, to be interacted with, and keep the creative spark flickering. Where I live now, the big dolls (2 SD and 1 MSD) sit on a bookshelf in the living room an are occasionally posed "doing something" around the apartment. The minis, are stowed for now, because my boyfriend isn't a doll person and I don't want one of them getting lost behind a chair by accident or something. The puki-puki is in her box on the bookshelf (love those boxes). Hopefully soon we'll have the bedroom redesigned and I'll have the big girls seating by my vanity table, but for now I like them out in the living room area where I can play with them, and other people can too, when they visit.

    18. Oh my goodness I love the setup in your living room! And that desk and chair is gorgeous!

Personally, I have a little space on the chest of drawers in my bedroom opposite my bed. I have a 1930s doll chair which I bought in a local antique store that Matilda sits (lounges) in and the rest are in doll stands near her until I can actually work out a space where I can display them properly.

I'm not concerned about sunlight because (after being burgled last year while we were home asleep in the next room) we have roller shutters installed which are kept closed 95% of the time so there's almost no chance of exposure.

    19. Wow! Love the way you have them displayed!

    20. Updating this. I have one doll sitting in my closet that needs to be moved, another on top of my dresser covered by clothes that need to be put away, and a third sprawled on the bottom shelf of a wire shelf-stand. It's pretty pitiful.
