How Do You Display Your Dolls?

Sep 23, 2017

    1. thank you!

    2. I keep some sitting on shelves and some on doll furniture (I have a couple 1/4-1/3 sized couches and chairs), plus a few in doll stands in random places in my room lol. My ideal setup would have glass cabinets to keep them safe and avoid dust, and I would also looove to make dioramas but I don't have the space or time right now :...( but someday, that's my goal! Glass cabinets and dioramas!

    3. Currently, they’re all on a low shelf next to my tv - the one on the edge lost his stand to the SDM. I fear him breaking the least bc he’s an obitsu body so replacement parts aren’t that pricey. Still, I’ll probably track him down a replacement stand or chair soon enough. Other problem would be if an earthquake happens that’s big enough to shake them all off and well, I imagine that’ll just be one of many problems should that happen. When I move later this year I’ll have to rethink how I want them displayed - I may seek out something with a glass front to help with dust.

    4. Currently mine are still in their boxes because I have cats, and as much as I love the darlings I don't trust them around my expensive babies. Ideally I'd a diorama or three, but I'm more likely to end up with shelving and stands before that.

    5. I have only have 2 sd sized dolls, and everyday where they're displayed changes. I like having them sit or stand where I can see them while I do hobbies or chores as my little motivators, and theyre usually posed relaxing or doing an activity like reading/knitting/folding origami. Theyll be on the couch, bed, shelf, etc. (=

One day I'd like to invest in a fancy doll couch for a designated place for them to chill when I'm too busy to move them around. I made a cardboard doll bed once, but it was flimsy and looked kinda mediocre haha.

    6. I have a bookcase in my closet and my dolls all sit there. It's great because I can close the sliding door if I have the curtains open, and open the door when I don't!

    7. I have a wood cabinet with glass panels in the doors. It sits low, below a window so that it is not facing the light source keeping them out of direct light. There is probably only enough room for about 10-12 yosd or 1/8 size dolls if I don’t want to crowd them. If my collection outgrows it I will buy a couple small curios to put the 1/8 tinies on the wall and keep the yosd in the cabinet.

    8. Make dioramas ) but there is not many place, so some of them are still in boxes (

    9. Having a dedicated doll room is an unaffordable fantasy in San Francisco, so we have dolls in multiple places around the apartment. We started out keeping them on stands on the bedroom dresser, and over the years they overflowed into the living room. We've got some out where we can poke at them.

And some in Billy bookcases, with an option to put more in there in the future.

The DearSDs in the front of the cabinet aren't in stands, but I put a little brass rod handrail across the front of that cabinet so they can't fall out if we open the doors.

    10. Those cabinets are amazing! Are they Ikea or something similar?

    11. They are IKEA Billy bookcases with the top extension and glass door added. I sewed panels to cover the glass where we have other items stored and found some old mid-century knobs for the doors. We have old Victorian plaster walls so the entire thing is bolted to a 2x4 that is anchored into the studs.

    12. So my dolls went from sitting on my desk, to the closet, and now they're sitting on a dresser. I think I like having them on the dresser but something tells me I should put them back in the closet. I wouldn't like another accident to happen.

    13. I was always afraid of yellowing, so I left them in their boxes until then. But I realized that I am not taking advantage of this and I am looking to set up a diorama display, at least for the small ones.

    14. I took over an extra bedroom in our house since our kids have all moved out. The bedroom is north facing, has a small window and I put up curtains to filter any sunlight that happens to make its way to the window. My husband had built bookcases into the walls years ago for my son who used to use that room. This set-up keeps them away from sun and our cats.

    15. I have a wonderful ginormous glass cabinet that's mirrored in the back with soft built in lights (that I don't actually use) that someone from my doll club sold to me for really cheap when she was moving. I learned pretty quickly when I was just collecting fashion dolls that my cat can open doors and he likes to drag dolls off by the hair so I can't leave them out.

    16. Some of my dolls are in drawers, but the rest are in their boxes. I used to have a diorama, but it was too inconvenient because it was not big enough for everyone. I like having them tucked away, however, because it keeps them protected from my pets and the sun.

    17. Mine are currently stacked in their boxes by my sewing table. When I move to my new place, I would like to buy a cabinet/selves to display them in. They'll either in the bedroom or living space, depending on which gets the least amount of light.

    18. With the exception of my 2 SDs who currently take turns out of the carry case my Resinsoul Mi came with, all of my dolls are pretty much wherever they happened to be set last though I am hoping to get shelves up in my bedroom so that they can have proper displays which really should be easy as the majority of my collection are tinies.

I recently went to Ikea to get a Billy bookcase for my dolls since I had seen a lot of nice set ups with it, but they were sold out of the color I needed. The closest Ikea to me is a 5hr drive so I wasn't leaving empty handed lol! I settled for this Brimnes cabinet, and honestly I really love it! The glass shelves allow the lighting to pass through so I didn't need to light each shelf. I didn't bother lighting the bottom since its just plushies. The only downside is the cross bars on the doors kind of limit the viewing when closed but it isn't a deal breaker for me. This cabinet is also a little cheaper than the Billy one, so I thought I would post this here as another option for anyone who was interested in Ikea display furniture! <3

    20. My current setup is two white bookcases from Target. I’d prefer some of the options IKEA has, but the closest is 4 hours from here, so no.. :sweat

They are in my bedroom I share with my fiancé. We have blackout curtains in here anyways because we’re both night owls that sleep during daytime hours.

Excuse the mess on the left one’s lower shelves. Still trying to sort things out after a bunch of sales.
