How do you fall in Love?

Dec 13, 2008

    1. I haven't got my first doll yet (hopefully will be ordering in the next few days!) When I first started looking nearly a year ago, I was really drawn to SoulKid Apple and Amy. I was put off by the body sculpt, however, and I am REALLY particular about what I want. I saw a couple of others that I liked, but when I started looking again recently I kept coming back to these two, particularly after seeing owner photos of them. I am definitely in love with them, and hopefully I will love them even more when I eventually get them!

Other dolls I quite like, and begin sneaking into my affections when I see owner photos of them. I always liked Tania best of the Iplehouse dolls, but never seriously considered getting one until I saw an owner photo that just blew me away - she was so gorgeous and I could begin to see the potential for her. Now she may have to go on The List...

    2. For me it's love at first sight. I don't 'warm up' to dolls, if I don't like them the moment I see that thumbnail then the chances of me liking them later on is slim to none.

    3. Myself, 9 times out of 10 I will see a doll that already has been customized and I'm doomed ~ I fall in love rarely but more then I would like because my doll family is expanding a bit bigger then I expected.

I was originally only going to buy one, only one of these very expensive dolls... ever.... lol

I have to try and hold off from buying and see if I can get over the wanting stage and if not, I scrounge ups the funds and buy her :)

    4. For me it actualy takes painting and dressing up a doll to fall in love. A lot of times I see a sculpt on the company page and I think I would really like it. When I get it I end up falling in love with the event head instead. An example of this happening is when I got my Feeple60 Mirwen. I painted up the Juri2012 I got and intended to rehome. I put her on Mirwen's body, dressed her up for photos to tempt new adoptive parents and wham! I have a new girl and her name is Anemone. Now the question is whether or not I'll fall in love with Mirwen after she is painted and dressed....somtimes it just doesn't happen.

    5. The very first doll I wanted for myself was 'love at first sight', but after much consideration and research, I decided that because of the large size and quirks I didn't like in the body design, it wasn't for me.

There are plenty of dolls who I absolutely love the moment I see them; they're striking and beautiful and speak to my core sense of beauty. But that's actually rather low on my list of considerations for dolls I would actually buy. I have a long checklist of requirements for what I want in dolls depending on what I'm prioritizing and what 'set' I want them to be in.

In my final list of dolls I have or want to own (10 total), two of them I'm getting primarily because of price, one I have as a gift, two I'm getting for body/proportions, engineering/posing, and size, and five I want because of how they work as a group more than a super-love of any individual sculpt.

Ahahaha, when I look at it that way, maybe that's a little off. It would be nice if I had at least one doll that made me go top-to-bottom gaga-faced, but actually, there are probably as many dolls out there that fit that description as fingers on my hand XD . And most of those aren't even the right size, since I don't collect large dolls.

    6. The mold I fell in love with (Lishe) was unexpected because of the way the company pics had her at that time. I was looking for a cute mold and Lishe was promoted as a more gothic style at this time. I didn't start looking at owner pictures of her until I got really bored one day and just fell in love with the fact that she could pull off just about anything.

Another sculpt I fell for recently is a dollfie dream Yukino. It took watching a youtube video to just fall for her because she looks a lot better in real life than she does in pictures.

    7. I really need to own a doll to love it. While I do like many dolls, I only really love a doll after I've owned it for a while and played with its look. I switch favorites on my 'going to buy list' so quickly and randomly that it's hard to say how much I 'love' the doll, because chances are that in the next month I'll be 'in love' with a new sculpt and looking for ways to buy it. But that's completely different from how I treat the ones I own. After I see the doll in person, it changes into something so utterly perfect to me in every way that I can't imagine myself with a different doll.

    8. For me it is a slow process, for a ling time I was into Minifee's convinced they were perfect for me. For a long time Fairyland was my favorite company. Soon though it got to the point where I was just over them, no matter what sculpt I brought home from Fairyalnd I was never happy. At this time my sister was into Doll Chateau and I thought they were creepy and weird. I was in the "I'm never owning a Doll Chateau" Camp. Until one day I had exhausted all the other MSD threads on DoA and clicked on Doll Chateau out of sheer bordem and WHAM!!!! A little boy with sleepy eyes and a pissed off expression stole my heart in an instant I was writigng stories, creating a character and planning out outfits for my new doll. It had happened I was in the "I love Doll Chateau" Camp and all because of a funny little DC Kid Colin, his name is Crow and eventhough I haven't ordered him yet, I can't imagine my doll collection without him. :)

    9. Deeeepends for me xD; Most of the time it's love at first sight. As in, I see a face and know I just HAVE to have it (the Crobidoll Yujin, f.e. it took me a single look at his face to almost have a heart attack from how perfect he looked) on the other hand there were dolls I hated on first sight (and since I mentioned Crobidolls, the immediate example would be their Yeon-ho which I downright loathed at first) but gradually fell in love with afterwards.

    10. I think I only fell in love with a doll once, when I first saw Crobidoll Nia. I just knew it. Something inside me screamed 'this is MY doll...it will become my doll!!' XD
Now that doesn't mean I don't love the rest of my dolls, but it's not something as strong. It's mostly a 'must.have.now' feeling when I see their faces for the first time :P
      I also had some of those incidents where you dislike a doll to the core (I really didn't see why people liked Dollfie Dreams) and suddenly I saw THE one for me and was desperate to get one home XD;;

    11. I look at a lot of pictures of so many dolls on here everyday. I also look like a lot of new releases. And pretty often I think "omg want!". But most times I forget about those dolls pretty fast again. But then there are these dolls that I really want. I look at more owner pics of the doll to see what can be done with it, look at it again and again, invent my own look for the sculpt in my mind, think about it all the time and so on. I just really am in love, I feel it. And then I will get the doll :)

    12. For me it defiantly varies. For the doll I'm currently waiting on(island doll aggie), it was defiantly a slow process for me. I actually was going to get another doll from that same company, but before I placed my order on her I decided to look at the other sculpts one last time, and that's when I first noticed that aggie had a facial expression I thought might fit my character better. I poked around looking for owner pictures, only to find one other person in this whole form had her, which ironically made her more appealing to me because I like being different, and not knowing what she looked like for certain in person added a fun element of surprise. And then Junkyspot went and put her up in their xmas sale, so I pretty much couldn't justify NOT getting her :XD:

As for the dolls I have on my wish list, they're certainly a more "love at first sight" type of affair. Then again I've yet to order them, so who's to say the same thing that happen with aggie won't happen again :XD:

    13. First I start thinking about my characters and then I search through my favorite companies to see if any sculpts look like them. Sometimes they have the same eye and hair color as how I want them to look and it gets me thinking about what I could do with that. Only one of my dolls was a love at first sight have to have it now doll :XD: Once I have my eye on something I just can't change my mind :)

    14. Usually I see a doll and if my mouth drops open or I think to myself "how GORGEOUS is that doll," I know I've fallen in love with that doll :)

    15. I see a sculpt and then it haunts me. I see them in every other doll and even if I can't remember the name I look for it and keep it in my database so that one day, hopefully, I can buy it.

    16. for me it was immediate, as soon as I saw her I "fell in love" with her face and knew that I had to have her
that was after a while of researching lots of dolls looking for the perfect one though
and owner photos just made me want her more

    17. If I can't sleep for a fortnight I am in love. :)

    18. I have very strong images of the characters I want dolls for in my head, so I haven't really fallen in love with any dolls who didn't immediately click with those images. There's one doll I'd like to just have, with no particular character attached, but while I like her I don't love her the way I love the two dolls I'm saving up for.

    19. For most dolls I fall for them immediately. But some I look at, then think a bit, then keep revisiting their images online, and slowly, a love affair develops. But I find, my attention often seem to linger at the dolls that i keep revisiting.

    20. I fell in love instantly lol. He was just so perfect to me. I just had to have him. If I hadn't seen him I would have never gotten into the hobby. I was going to give up on buying a doll until his scuplt was released on the website. After that I knew he was the one I had to buy.
