How do you fall in Love?

Dec 13, 2008

    1. Same. :) Fairyland and Iplehouse drive meh crazy with their gorgeous/cute sculpts.

    2. It is actually slightly amusing.
I use to be one of those "Oh those dolls are pretty, but they aren't for me" Types, my friends would rattle on about them for hours before finally one day (I was skipping doing my finals projects) and I stumbled across the Crobi Website. Taking one look at Nao B I had this almost gobsmacked realization about the dolls, and instantly I wanted to get him myself.

    3. I looked at all the cheapie websitres first, and found no luck. volks, i didn't like them that much, and when i went to luts, i found the perfect doll for me. >.< :sweat

    4. It takes me a while to think about whether I truly want the doll or not. I wouldn't say "fall in love" rather be infatuated with it for awhile when there's a new release of a doll. I want to calm down and think what I'm looking for in the mold before I jump the gun into buying the doll that I might regret later. In addition, looking at owner pics really help.

There was one doll that I was really interested in by Crobidoll and the photos on their website were great. However, after looking up owner pics, he wasn't for me. Something about how "plastic" the nose looked, turned me off.

    5. A mixture of the two, I'd say, but the ones that tend to come home are the ones that grow on me - that, in fact, I first say I'm not drawn to :sweat. I'm now careful about what I say, even to myself *heh*.

    6. "pretty confused, convoluted and generally run around in circles"

Yup, think that about sums up my approach! i think I get a bit obsessed with a certain face (it's always faces) and look at all sorts of pics, as many owner pics as possible and generally spend months and months dithering to make certain that I absolutely DO want that particular face. Of my True-Loves, Soom Spinel, PW Skiya, DOT E-an and DT Estella, I loved them all for at least a year before I bought them and know I never want to part with them unless I really really need the cash and there is nothing left in the house to sell... but lots of others have come and gone, usually ones I spent less time drooling over photos... I guess love at first sight, sometimes wears off just like in real human relationships?

    7. I know when I fall in love. It's one of those "Holy crap, I want this doll naoplz!" moments. But I know I can't get it now, so it goes on the wishlist. Most of my planned SDs are like that. Some of the MSD sculpts I love I had to warm up to. It took some researching, looking at owner pics, etc, but I really do love the dolls.

    8. As soon as I see them I know. Only three times since this love of dolls have I loved. Years ago, the very first time, was with this gorgeous boy. I can't remember his model...it was something RAIN. I planned his wig, his eyes and decided to call him Atreyu. But I was 16 at the time and couldn't afford him then the ebay seller stopped selling, I lost the link and he was lost to me :(

It didn't happen again until last year. I saw a FREESIA SpiritDoll on ebay, went to the SpiritDoll store so I COULDN"T loose her, then about a month ago bought I her. While looking for clothes on ebay I saw a ARONA DollLove and it happened again. I paid for her a couple days later and they both showed up in the mail 2 days ago. I don't think I'll fall in love again for a while. I'm kinda picky. I like a LOT of dolls, but out of all of them only those three ever really won my heart :) Love at first sight and such.

    9. I think "Godsmacked" my be a good descriptor for me, too, as melodramatic as it sounds. :sweat

I think the first glance I made at Soom Appini was exceptionally extreme. I took one look at her, just knew, and promptly dropped an unhappy f-bomb knowing the pains I was about to go through to get her. Worth it, all of it, when you love a sculpt that much.

    10. I liked Pukifee dolls because of their posing abilities and overall cuddlyness... but it was hard to choose a sculpt. However, Bonnie was the one I liked first and in the end, after lots and lots of thinking and deciding, I chose her. She's underway now. <3

And then I came across Leekeworld's website and I fell in love. Instantly. With their wig model, after some research she appeared to be a Volks SD 4-sisters sculpt, the first BJD ever made... Right now I'm saving up for her! Funny, because before I came across her I thought I'd only ever own tinies, but now I have this feeling of peace about getting a larger doll.

I suppose love can grow or be love at first sight!

    11. I think I fall in love with dolls the same way I'll fall in love in real life -- over time. I have had 3 dolls. One was sold because I didn't "love" her from the start, and I lost interest in her very quickly after she arrived. My second, it wasn't love at first sight. I was actually set on a different sculpt, and she just sort of grew on me. Now I know she'll always be my favorite, and she's definitely not leaving anytime soon. 3rd was similar to the first, but I was sure I loved the sculpt. And I do, to look at, but I'm discovering she's not for me. She was a "love-at-first-sight" doll, which isn't how I work. I'm hoping I can fall back in love with her, but we'll see.

    12. Usually it's when I see a pretty doll and go "oooh" and then later I haven't forgotten about them. XD;; If I haven't forgotten, I go back and look some more and track down more pics/info. Sometimes I lose interest after inspecting it a bit more because I realize it's not as awesome as I thought, but if I keep liking it more every time I look at it, then I know that's the one I want.

I don't just choose by face, it has to have a great overall style, joint structure, etc. A pretty face alone isn't worth the price. So for me it's like shopping for a neat tool or gadget where you have to look into all the features.

    13. I can usually tell which sculpts I want as soon as I see the first pictures, although I tend to look at owner pictures before buying to make sure they are perfect. I'm very easy going though and it's not hard for me to fall in love with any sculpt. I have to admit though, I'm a total sucker for anything that has a cute face. xP

    14. I have an easy complicated way of falling in, recognizing in sculpts since the moment I see them (Mostly One Piece manga and anime series and more rarely own creation) characters that I want to have and that I finally get.

Saving aside, it has happened to me usually in a sudden as love at first sight. Only a few times it took longer to decide, mainly because I used to have sculpts from only one company and rushing into another shape, another one, was a hard step for me to take. That changed as soon as I also took it.

I have never needed seeing owners' pictures of sculpts to make up my mind. In fact I try to avoid it because I think that is a personal point of view of the mold. I have always checked out as many photos as possible from the companies, but only from them. To be honest, there is an exception, an sculpt I saw in person before I got it, but it did not fit me until I saw it with a different make up at the company.

    15. I usually just see and go YES and then sniff around for pictures. But honestly, Mischief and Mayhem were both sort of impulse buys. I'd been waffling about on the idea of a Yder or and El. and the el head came up on Ebay. So I bought it. mayhem was supposed to be a littlefee leah. or a Dikadoll abby. But then I saw a carl head for sale and looked it up and just went ahead and bought it. And I adore her! she's so beautiful.

    16. For me when I see the stock photo that I really like, I try to search for owners' photo to see how they look in person! Sometimes it's the opposite, I see owners amazing photos of their dolls, which makes me look up the website to see the stock photos! It takes me a long while before I actually decide to get a doll, must see tons and tons of pictures, ask my hubby what he thinks, then I like to sleep on it. Usually takes me weeks before I actually hit the "submit order" button! :sweat

    17. When I see a nice sculpt I usually go "Wooooooo, love!"
      Then I forget about it.
After I some time I realise that I actually liked that doll.
Searching like crazy (I never remember the name >.>)
      Creating the character.
Forgetting about doll, living with the character.
Accidentally bumping into some owner pics of that sculpt --> "Oh, that's XY!" ---> Falling in love.
      Comforting my crying bank account.

Pretty sad, isn't it? But trust me, this is quite "shortened" version xD

    18. I'm rather picky about sculpts, but when I do see something I adore, I can't stop thinking about it.
Even when price tags make me twitch, I can't help but still want them! When you truly fall in love with a doll, there's not a lot that can turn you against them!

    19. Depends...
With woosoo i fell in love immediatly. Love at first sight. And i still feel that way.
For Zaoll luv, it took more Time. I didnt like her in the beginning. But i dont know why it changed...
and sometimes, i see a doll on a site that seems Nice, but looking at owners pictures i realize its not that nice. Or the other way arround :3

    20. I have to see a few pictures of some of them first before I fully decide if I've fallen for the doll in question, but some I fall for the moment I lay eyes on them.
