How do you fall in Love?

Dec 13, 2008

    1. Definitely a love at first sight for my first doll, but for the other I do some research on DoA and Flickr.

    2. well, for me, it has been Love at first sight.

There were other dolls I liked, and thought about getting... However, when I laid eyes on my boy, it just happened. He was there, inside my mind, name, character and background... his whole "being" just came to my mind, and that was the moment I knew that he needs to be mine. Generally, whenever something makes me have such strong associations, I know this is right for me. If I get more dolls, I will do it similarily, but with him in mind at the same time, if that makes sense... because I want all my dolls to be part of something bigger, they have to be somewhat connected.

    3. I tend to love a sculpt immediately from pictures on the website, but sometimes it's just novelty so I save a picture or two in my computer and set it as my desktop background. If I still love it a week or so later, I know it's a good doll for me. ^^
This isn't always the way it turns out though... For one of the dolls in my wishlist (Crobidoll Yeon-Ho) I didn't even have to give him the trial period in my maybe folder. I knew I wanted him. If I'd had the money at the time I would have bought him in a heartbeat, but I have to wait until after I move into my new apartment and get settled. :/ But it's okay, he's just so perfect for me I know he'll be worth the wait. ^^

    4. I feel very much the same as Taco. It takes a lot for me to fell for a doll, but sometimes it's like lightning. But it has happen that a doll took a long time to grow on me, but it doesn't happen often though.

    5. I'm in the process of searching for my first doll.

For me, falling in love with a doll is based on a few things:
      1. Sculpt - Needs to have a pretty face!
      2. Body - I want a poseable doll with a good shape. A very stiff doll with a pretty face is out.
      3. Company - I want a company known for treating their customers right. New is fine so long as the reviews have been good so far. I can let this slide a little bit if the doll is THAT pretty (I'm looking at you Iplehouse).
      4. Price - I won't lie, a $700 nude doll is a total turn off for me. Thank goodness I haven't liked the ones that cost that much so far. I don't want to spend more than $500 on my first one for the nude.
      5. Skin tone/Face-up - I'm looking to buy a default face up for my first one. I also want to get her a red wig with gold eyes. If the skin tone is off too much, it would made me pause. However, I've yet to see a doll that didn't have a good enough skin tone.

Only after that do I allow myself to fall in love. Mainly because, I fall in love HARD.

    6. I'm new to this, and I don't yet have my doll, but I've decided on several that I want to buy. For me, it just clicks. Now with the first doll I'm getting, I...hadn't quite realized the "click" until I noticed that while I was trying to make a decision, I kept going back to look at him. This is mainly because the dolls I plan to get later are all going to be avatars to developed characters. My first doll has a character that I'm slowly creating, and it won't really be complete until after he's come home.

    7. Like you asked in your opening post...I see a sculpt and just think YES!

It's happened with every single one of my dolls.

There was one instance where there was a doll I was never interested in, but then I received it as a gift and fell in love with it.

    8. Hmm..sometimes..love at first sight..(but that 'love' doesn't last long usually..haha)

For Bluefairy PF Kissing Jimmy...definitely love at first sight..and the love last for loong time..still last btw. xD

For Volks Williams..it is love at the first sight of a sad photostory about him..and because his story touched my heart...

For other Volks..they grow up slowly but surely..xD..like Charlotte..Ran..Luna...Ami Ayase..

For Realpuki RoRo..love at first sight at her pink buns hair...xD

      For..(haha..long huh?)..Puki ChiChi..after seeing her 'bad' finger..

For Littlefee and Yo-SD...they grow up on me..

For Iplehouse and Luts and DoD..they..well..they grow on me after I forced myself to found out what's so cool 'bout them..lol.

That's how I fall in love.

    9. For me, I've had these types of moments ALOT but thats because I just friggin love BJDs
      BUT
There is indeed this one kind of sculpt that I absolutely died for. Thats the Ryu head sculpt from Migidoll and I've seen the ryu type alot and have seen alot of excellent pictures and glamorous designs. I've seen his type in person and fell in love with it more. Problem is that I've always been worried about not being able to find him a good body type....but then migidoll posted up a good one and I'm not as worried.
I mean I love my BBB apollo and he has really grown on me. I think all starter dolls do but I've really wanted the migi for quite some time but being that I'm still nothing more than a poor highschool student and will probably be a poor college student as well, I think the migidoll won't be arriving anytime soon

    10. I am a sucker for a pretty face/mold. XD~!
      ...wow that sounds so shallow....

    11. Not going to sound original, but they have to have a fantasy feeling about them : fantasy features ( like Soom ), props and outfits....not too shoujo manga looking ( I don't love dollfies that much for example...) and have some "personnality " showing through their looks....

    12. I fall in love with particular photos quite often.
I takes research, a lot of thought, and sometimes trial and error to determine if I am in love with the actual doll for sure.
Often I'll see a photo and think "Yes!" but after some time I'll realize it's not quite what I wanted
and yea I will go in circles too. It can actually be kind of frustrating!
Sometimes I wish I could be one of the people that sees it and just knows and is happy with their decision without another thought.
I want my dolls to be perfect for me and I probably over think it sometimes.

    13. This is very interesting. Sometimes the website photos strike awe in me but sometimes I'm not sure and if/when that happens I come here to search for owner photos and try to find as many as possible with custom or original faceups. I believe it helps to see a doll's potential when you can see the face painted many different ways.

    14. Well... it all started from anime -> gacha gacha -> figure collecting -> dolls... Its like going up a ladder.... luckily I was able to get rid of most of the stuff from previous levels... haha

    15. Hmm It took me a week or so of looking to find the right one I'm saving up to buy. I always look at the icon first and see if I'll like it by it's eyes then I open it and look more into detailed like the chin and how manly it is. But I won't like the doll unless the body looks good like the joints. I don't like thinking about having different heads on different bodies from other companies. It seems hard to be able to match the resin.

    16. I knew as soon as I saw him (and ironically, the small icon on Fairyland's site had me going "bet it's a girl" as I clicked it). I don't have him yet, but plan to, Aiden will be a Minifee Luka Silver Bird full package as the outfit is spectacular for his character concept (my '09 NaNo main char). Although I want a DZ Cosmo and I have a Bobobie Elfkin as my first BJD... nothing hit me quite like Aiden. Here's hoping he doesn't sell out before I get the funds. o_o;;

    17. I personally know because when I look at them, my heart melts.:aheartbea I love everything about the doll, the eye shape, mouth shape, nose shape, head shape, ect. You'll know "the one" when you see him/her.:) Good luck finding them!:)

    18. The dolls I'm saving to get are dolls I wanted the second I saw them. I saw DoD Ducan and just couldn't take my eyes off of him; same for the DZ Wing. It's like I just know that I have to have them. There's just something in the face that gets to me somehow. But I'm a romantic and I believe in love at first sight anyway ^^

    19. Usually immediately. The doll just strikes to me as being The Right One for character X in my "To be dollified" character list. There are some that have grown on to me, however, and some, that have seemed like The Right One, but once I see it in real life, or once I have tried the face up on it, I realise, that it most definitely is not the right one for the character :/ Or I find am even better mold for a character (though I have to admit, I'm very reluctant to change a doll's mold, so the difference in likeness to the character has to be strikingly big).

    20. First I visualised things I am looking for in a doll and then did A LOT of reasearch. And when I saw this particular doll, I immidiately thought "bingo". The perfect kind of an unperfect doll. Very detailed and well build for a tiny, so lovably awkward with her wide hips, pouty lips and huge feet.
Even thought I still haven't ordered, I sometimes even have dreams about her...
