How do you feel about fantasy hair colors?

Apr 25, 2013

    1. I like both. It depends on the character of the doll and the clothing it is wearing. Some of the colors of the fantasy wigs are gorgeous and are fun to play with photograph. In either case ... real or fantasy ... it need to be a good quality wig. If the wig looks cheap, it ruins the whole look of the doll.

    2. I was playing with my BJD's last night and I realized that so far either they all have flaming orange/red hair or they have multicolored fantasy hair. There's definitely a major trend going on around here with that. They're going to be a colorful bunch when I am done, lol....

    3. I love both. Some of my dolls really rock natural hair while others only look right with wild colors. Since I mainly sew my own wigs from faux fur scraps, wild color palettes are often more readily available.

    4. I love both, I think that when my dolls arrive they will have some shades of blue and green hair eventually :)

    5. Generally I keep my dolls in natural colors, but the one exception is PINK! Pink is totally my favorite hair color ever, so I have quite a few pink wigs ^^

    6. I agree it really depends on the doll, I have a mix of natural colors and fantasy, my doll shelf has red heads, black hair, turquiose, indigo, and I'm currently trying to hunt down a dark purple one!

    7. Generally I tend to go for the natural hair colors, but I absolutely adore white and silvery gray hair without the character being really old.

    8. Mine are mostly natural, but I've got a few fun colors tossed in.

    9. I like both. My dolls have a default hair (which means that I never change the hair once I find the perfect one) and 2 of them have a fantasy color.

    10. I like both fantasy and natural hair colours but it depends on the doll what color I prefer for them. Currently, only one of my dolls has an unnatural - silver - hair color.

    11. I really love the /idea/ of crazy colors... and I have found them often to be a pain in the neck to obtain. XD I am working on getting dark purple high lights in my one boy Damian's blond hair and another character has teal hair... (I'll have to pre-order from For My Doll and meh...) I'm still trying not to spend $50 to get her the wig I know will work from overseas. x.x But I love the variety and crazy colors when I see them. :)

    12. For me it all depends on the character! I love fancy hair colors, but my characters tend to have more natural hair. I do have some characters with extremely blood red hair I want to shell, though...

    13. I have some natural colors but I have made so many wild colored fake fur wigs for my guys that I began to look for the more natural hair wigs in fantasy colors. So now I have a wide range to choose from and depending on what the theme of the day is it's a color riot or calm normalcy.:D

    14. I definitely like fantasy colored wigs but I tend to have some OCD twinges about color that (to me) make fantasy colors kind of limiting. For example, everything about the doll must compliment the wig color and not clash. One of my dolls has a wig color that looks different depending on the lighting and it drives me crazy finding the right shades (for her clothes) that look good in every situation! My two dolls with fantasy colored wigs happen to be my favorites, though, and I have at least one more planned. It's a challenge for me and sometimes frustrating, but worth it.

    15. I much prefer fantasy hair colours, I like to style my dolls in a fashion that I wouldn't style myself in.
My MSD girl Frost has pure white hair, and my incoming Pukifee will have pastel pink and pastel purple.

    16. I love them. My first doll I hope to make a time traveler. The cosmic rays and temporal crap out in the wormholes irradiate her hair, making her bald. It's really a cheap ploy to let her wear any wig she likes and any style she likes. When I have my doll wish list I hope to make a photo comic of them in space and time.

oops rambling. sorry. I think any doll can actually wear any style of wig. The notion that "this type of wig didn't look good on her/him" makes little sense to me. You may not like the personal style and it may not match the fashion your doll is wearing, but that doesn't mean it looks bad on your sculpt. Sometimes when I see people walking out of their doll comfort zones you get the most amazing photos. I think fantasy wigs are a great gateway drug (so to speak) for branching out into weirder and out of the ordinary looks for your dolls.

    17. Add me to the "it depends on the character" list. Most of my dolls have natural hair colors, and of course Chaeri has 49850395103498 wigs, and most of her wigs are natural colors...but the ones she wears most often are various shades of pink. Not that she doesn't look beautiful in natural color wigs, but pink is her chosen color. And it looks amazing with her violet eyes.

    18. I love fantasy colours, because I've been dyeing my own hair colours like pink, blue, and green all my adult life. My 1/4 size bjd currently has a teal and brown wig that I love. I do find myself in the habit of putting all my dolls in natural ginger/red wigs though. I suspect it's because that was my natural colour as a child, but now my hair has darkened to a very dark red-brown and I miss the ginger.

    19. I like both! It really depends on the doll and it's style, I think. I also think that I like fantasy hair colors because I was never allowed to dye my hair like Sailor Neptune and part of me is still really mad about that. XD

    20. When I started in the hobby I wanted crazy hair colors of all sorts, over time I eventually realized like 80% of my dolls look a million times better with a semi-natural hair color, still some fantasy colors just fit perfectly like Evalin and her blue/pink split hair. :3
