How do you feel about fantasy hair colors?

Apr 25, 2013

    1. I prefer natural hair tones for the most part, with the exception of silver/grey/white hair on non-elderly dolls. I just think natural colors fit better with the kind of dark, muted palettes I like for my dolls.

    2. My dolls all have natural hair colors. I wouldn't mind a fantasy hair color on any of my dolls, but I just have never tried it. Every time I see Kelly Osborne with her pastel lilac hair, I think I'd like to try that for one of my dolls.

    3. I prefer natural hair colours, but I have a soft spot for pastel hair. As long as the wig doesn't look cheap, I think it can be really beautiful.

    4. I think fantasy hair colors can look great! I prefer pink on my Komatsu, but Aine is going to be mostly cosplaying some video game characters who have natural hair colors so her hair will remain natural for the most part.

    5. Most of my doll have very natural hair colours, but I have this one doll, that before he even got home, screamed for bright blue hair. It just really goes with the personality that I envisioned for the doll, a bit crazy, loves to party, very fun. He has a very odd personality, and his hair needed to reflect that.

    6. I don't have a single doll currently with a natural hair style:XD: not because I don't like the style but because most of my dolls are fantasy themed dolls so their hair color typically follows suit! However, that makes it a pain in the neck sometimes when you're trying to find a very specific wig design for your doll! I will have my very first non-fantasy doll but they'll still have some wild colors mixed in with the natural hair color lol

    7. I love fantasy colours for wigs. Though to my chagrin the style is very important when looking at wigs for dolls. Espescially if the fantasy wig has a fringe.

I tend to lean to white coloured wigs myself. But have an ombre blue, pink and purple too.

    8. For me, it depends on the doll. Some of my dolls have natural hair colors, and others don't. Then again, the ones that don't tend to be more fantasy-type characters.

It just depends on the doll and the style, I guess.

    9. I love both! I have a mix of both in my collection as well. I tend to choose what I feel the character calls for, but I also like trying a bunch of different colors and styles and eventually one just sticks.

    10. I'm a little impartial. I have dolls with both.

    11. I personally love them! Gives them si much character depending on the sculpt Nd face up.

    12. I love fantasy colours! Particularly in pastel and light fairytale type colours. I really like natural hair as well though.

    13. I prefer natural hair colors but I think it depends on the doll. I have a meadow dolls Kyrra, who is a fairy doll (with horns) so fantasy colors look great on her

    14. I just go for what looks cool or fitting. I dye my own hair in different shades of purple and red, so why not give some colour to the dolls, too.

    15. I like all hair colors :XD: different doll styles, characters and concepts I've had suited different looks. I have noticed I go through phases where I switch out wigs so more dolls have natural or fantasy at one time.

    16. I love both but I do lean more towards fantasy colors

    17. Depends. I only have a dollfie right now, and I don't really have any really natural looking hair colors for her. To be honest, I probably won't ever get her any natural looking ones because she looks cute with her more fantasy style hairs. If I were to get a more realistic doll, I would probably go the more natural route though.

    18. I actually enjoy both fantasy and normal hair colors it just depends on the character :)

    19. I like them just fine, and have a few with wild hair colors. Ultimately, it's about what's right for their character.

    20. Zilvriia would shrivel up like a raisin and waste away if she didn’t get fantasy hair colours (it’s a Thing in her storyline that dyeing her very long, white hair was her only method of self expression for a while. She, Aura, Tacet, Lex, Val and Cole all “canonically” dye their hair for Reasons.

i tend toward a lot of fantasy hair colours, both cause I just like them better, and because most of my characters aren’t human. Vidania’s natural hair colour is dark purple, and half the auratus family has a natural hair colour that’s way more saturated red than you can usually get naturally. There also becomes a point where green hair looks as natural on the green doll as brown hair looks on the human doll, versus a human shade of red would look less natural on her.

I’ve also noticed when I do human hair colours, they tend to be uncommon (like black, reds, and really light blonde) I only have 1 character with any kind of medium brown hair, and another with really deep brown hair.

The way I choose to present (crucially, the very red hair) is a big part of who I am, so I think I make characters to match—I know I’m why Valentine has aggressively red hair, for instance.
