How do you keep your dolls?

Dec 27, 2006

    1. My dolls have a shelf 'house'. The shelves aren't high enough for them to stand but I'm not fussed because I prefer them sitting down in chairs anyway.

    2. My doll will live on top of a bookcase. I tried to make a sort of bed for her...but it turned into a pillow, so I made her a little pillow to match and lay her head on. XD (There is no blanket as of yet).
      I bought a small rug to go onto the bookcase as flooring and she has a little bag with her stuff in it waiting for her to arrive.

    3. In their boxes. I'm too paranoid something bad will happen to them if I leave them out unsupervised. :|

    4. I have four on the dining room table. Three have chairs and one is lying down. I also have two heads and a faceplate there too. It's pretty dark over there, so that's good for them. The other two (Aiden and Oliver) are on the doll sofa that is next to my human sofa. I might move it later, but I like it there. The only problem is that it is close to the windows, so I worry about opening them and leaving those two in the light for so long. I am working on bookshelf bedrooms for my Yo-SDs, but as they are multiplying faster than I expected, it could be awhile before everyone has a space to live in.

    5. I have one of those box shelf things, it has 12 boxes in it I think, and they're about 30cm by 30cm. My dolls are currently occupying 2 of the boxes. I have this feeling they're going to take over though :3

    6. With me always, ahah. The only doll I currently have, I made a canopy bed the exact size just for him to sleep in. :sweat
      I always take him with me everywhere too, because you never know when there's a photo opportunity.

      A new doll I'm going to buy soon will probably be the same situation, except I'll probably make him more of a cat-themed bed ((since it's a cat theme character)), and I'll probably end up taking him everywhere with me as well.

      While I'm doing things, like watching television or drawing, I have a few doll chairs too that I just let him sit there and watch what I'm doing. xD I feel bad if I just let him stay in a dark room being lonely...:sweat

    7. Wow... I'm probably a horrible dolly owner then. My lot hang out on my bookshelf while I'm at Uni, and once I left Maika on a windowsill while I was getting around to doing his face-up and blushing... there was a ton of sunlight too, but I figured I wouldn't mind if he yellowed (XD) Thus the dolls pretty much live where ever I'm not able to physically occupy (I hate sitting on them). I think they work best on the shelf- it keeps them out of trouble, but still together (which I like).

    8. How do you keep your dolls? Well, as a collector I was always plagued with this problem for many years. I had them in spare bedrooms, on shelves, kept in closets etc. We all know how it goes when your a collector.
      I finally got tired of having my beautiful dolls in hiding or not having a permanent home. So, I fixed the problem.
      I added a doll gallery on to the house.
      Now my kids have a home of their own. My friends and family like to view my collection when they come to the house. I have a room to enjoy and a place to call my own haven.
      Adding a doll gallery was the best thing I ever did!

    9. holy crap that's really impressive, Manscan!

      I need to do some re-arranging, but eventually my girls are going to have a shelf in my room for themselves. That's really all I can give them since I live in an apartment with roommates and a cat. Once I get my own place, I'm hoping to either have them in my studio/work room if I'm lucky enough to have one, or displayed in my living room. I spent a lot of money on my girls, no way I'm going to keep them in a closet! xD

    10. That is a LOT of glass. and a LOT of dolls! ;;;;

      I generally keep my doll in his box. But I am commissioning a few artist friends for simple, basic, small display cases, just because I'd like to be able to see my doll even if I'm not playing with him. They're out of plexiglass with a stained wood base. 8I;; It's not much, but it keeps the dust off and fits in my budget until I live on my own :)

    11. Manscar, your "doll gallery" is fabulous, something I've dreamed of. I keep my dolls in my "office" as I work at home, or in their boxes, but your pictures have really inspired me to turn my office into a gallery around my computer desk.

    12. Tinazgarza that is a wonderful idea! There is nothing like surrounding yourself with things you love. As much as we all pay for our dolls it it really important that they are out for the world to see and us to appreciate.

    13. I keep mine in a glass curio cabnet.

    14. I got this big translucent plastic boxes w/ covers. I keep all of my dolls in there and the sun doesn't reach 'em where I place the box. Sometimes, when I try to sew clothing for them, they will be left on top of the box or on my working table. Sunlight doesn't reach those places and they are stable so it is safe to leave them there.

      @Manscan:
      WOW @.@

    15. Oh my Manscan, that is quite impressive.

      Right now the dolls that I do have (no BJDs currently, just Pullips) are on a tall bookcase, that I wanted to convert into a doll house of sorts, but it's really not big enough. Once we buy a house I want to get a glass front cabinet that they can be displayed properly and behind the glass to remain safe and dust free.

      Hopefully by then I will another BJD again, and maybe more than one.

    16. Woah...hardcore Manscan! That is so cool! XD

      I'll look at your pictures and dream. <)

    17. Mine are sitting on the end of a shelf (kinda), I think they're fairly safe from the cats because there isn't any jumping room. If there isn't any room for the paws to go then they usually won't go there... Or they'll try anyway and you'll hear a huge crash as everything goes everywhere.

      Anyway, I plain don't have any room to put mine anywhere else :P I'd love to get some furniture for them but I'm focusing on buying the dolls I want first, and as mentioned I'd have nowhere to put it. I do want to eventually make some strong clear plastic (lighter than glass) cases for my dolls and other collections to keep them dust free, but that won't be happening anytime soon.

    18. Mine sits in a chair that's near the foot of my bed. There's really nowhere else to put his little chair.

    19. I put my tiny away in his box and my other two I stuff them together in my closet... and also I keep them naked and bald...hahah. :sweat I'm so paranoid of yellowing, dust, wig stains and clothing staining/creasing... but geez after I look at them, it's really unpleasant seeing them naked and bald and stuffed into a closet.. poor things. T.T I'm gonna get them some clothes...I'm a terrible owner. D;

    20. My sweet dear mother built them a Doll house that takes up most of an upstairs bedroom. But at first i had a bunk bed (bed on top, couch/futon on bottom) and they had a little 'apartment' on the outstretched futon.
