1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you motivate yourself to save for your doll?

Apr 10, 2010

    1. I work at a fabric/craft store, and have spent so much money on different fabrics in the last 6 months. I have my own stash now.

So I decided that from now on, every time I feel like going out shopping (which i do mostly because i am easily bored) that I will sit down and sew an outfit for my dolls. This uses up my stash of fabric, keeps me occupied, and even better, I'm starting to sell my clothes here on the marketplace.

The hardest thing for me is that I'm a casual, so I never know when I'm working and have no guaranteed income. Some weeks i might get $150 and others $750. Recently I haven't been getting many shifts, so its hard for me to save.

    2. I don't really have to motivate myself. Ever since I got my first pocket change, saving money was kind of like a hobby of mine. It even was a little pathetic, 'cause I was able to buy a $2000 synthesizer at age 15 and still have about a $1000 left on my savings account. I never spent anything.

Even now, I prefer to see the figure on my bank account go up instead of down and I have a hard time buying things that are unnecessary. So... for me it would be better if I'd loosen up a bit.

    3. I have a kindle so it's hard not to build up my book collection out of my doll funds...So I reread the ones I own and I look for the magical FREE section and get my fix that way. XD;; I actually to save my doll money traded my mom a gift card I got for book money. XD;;

    4. I will use the doll picture as a screensaver to remind myself and motivate myself to save for the doll I want

    5. First I must have character, then I need to find perfect mold. Then starts money saving or I just beg for my husband to buy birthday present (like my first one. I said him that if he buys me doll he don´t have to think of my presents of couple years).

    6. I'm an adult, really cheap, and try to minimize expenses and keep money in my savings account, so it's less trying to save for the doll and more trying to decide how often i want to spend on a doll. I've decided to force myself to meet several conditions before I buy one.

      1. I just finished a semester with a 4.0 GPA.
      2. I finished my "special goals" for the semester (a certain number of hours tutoring, volunteering, and doing independent research.)
      3. There are no other major expenses on the horizon (dental work, furniture, taxes).
      4. I have a lot of ideas for the new doll and it gives me a new area of crafting to explore and doesn't overlap with the old one(s).

...so basically, if I work hard, I let myself play hard! My current doll is female and her character is a renaissance-fantasy themed scholar, so I've been making dresses and robes. My next planned doll is IH Dexter, and he'll be a warrior. I'll get to explore more crafting with leather, chainmail, and epoxy weapons and armor. After that, I'm toying with the idea of trying to find a Nobilitydoll muscular female body so I can do a female warrior with a different style of armor and weapons. I wouldn't want to get another delicate female sculpt, most likely, because I already have one. That's the whole "doesn't overlap with old dolls" thing.

It's, uh, working so far, but I'm new to the hobby.

    7. I put the doll i'm saving for on the desktop and get rid of money in the pocket puttung it on bank account immidiatly

    8. I can't save up, I just can't. When I want a doll and have the money I buy it immediately and if I don't have enough I put it on layaway. I always find a way to get enough money RIGHT NOW to start at least a layaway, saving up just doesn't work for me :sweat

    9. By no means am i saver, i spend money as soon as i get my hands on it....soooooo the solution was never to get my hands on it :3
by that i mean i started doing online work that paid me through paypal and i just i kept all my money online and never transferred it to my bank. that way when i went out to the mall or even grocery shopping i never had the temptation to spend all the money I made because well.. I didnt have it~
I also gave my mom my debit card so i wouldn't be tempted to spend the money in my account either.

    10. I put my -wanted- dolls' photos as wallpaper for my phone. XD
It will remind me to keep saving and don't get distracted... too much...

    11. I'm like Lil Spark - I have to trick myself to save (thank GODDESS for 401 Ks & CD accounts...)
I put dolls on layaway in order to make sure I put aside enough money for them (if I can't just buy them outright). One nice thing about that - w/several companies they start making the dolls when you order/make the down payment for them. Mint on Card orders when you make the downpayment. So instead of waiting months while saving for a doll THEN waiting for it to come - it definitely shortens the waiting time.
Of course I'm close to retiring so I've got a steady income to pay layaways with. If your $$$ is iffy month to month then layaways are NOT for you.

    12. I actually dont have to get motivated to save up for my dolls ~ I earn money online by doing digital arts. I actually find joy in doing them cause it's also my hobby. So it's like doing something that you love but still earning money ^^
So everyday I earn money and when I just decide that I want a doll, I just need to work a little harder to finish the money I need more in my paypal to actually pay for the doll I want :)
