How do you pronounce "Leeke" and other company/sculpt names?

Jan 28, 2007

    1. I say 'loots' with the long u sound... it's how it would be pronounced in japanese but I don't know if it's the same in korean

    2. aahaha.. what a cool thread xD

      luts in korean is 루 - roo/loo (oo as in e.g. book, cool) 츠 - che, so I'm thinking loots is the more correct one out of the two (guts or loots, which would you want? lol). I keep pronouncing it as lutz though around english-speakers because i used to do figure skating and we practised flip jumps, loop jumps, Lutz jumps, cherries.. etc xD
      Iplehouse is 이플하우스, which is closer to ipplehouse than eyeplehouse. Eeplehouse?
      Soom is 숨, with the oo pronounced quickly like in book and foot
      Leekeworld - 리키월드 - sounds very much like 'leaky-world' xDD
      Minifee - 미니폐 - korean doesn't have the f phonetic so it sounds like minipye (e as in pet) so.. i dunno how this would translate xD it's funny, cuz Feeple is spelled 피플, which is indistinguishable from 'people'. ^^
      Narin is 나린 na- rin and narae is 나래 na - re (e as in red) so perhaps na-ray
      Unoa is ユノア in katakana - yunoa - so you-no-aa

      for sculpt names:
      Ducan is 듀칸 - dyoo-can (a as in car without r and not as long) english-speakers tend to say dyookin.
      Lishe is a bit weird - 리쉬 -is ri-shwee so.. leash?
      Cian is 키안 - kee-an.. i've never heard this pronunciation of cian before so maybe the company saw the name somewhere and thought it was that? I have a friend called Ciano and we call him Sharno =/
      Yder is 이더 ee-der or yee-der
      Ys 이스 sounds like iss or yiss.
      oh.. and I've heard Milch pronounced with ch like chop and i get a little annoyed.. Milch is German for milk so it would be a German ch at the back of your throat (unless it's also a word in a different language. hmm xD). The korean name uses a 'h' sound to denote the ch.

      and i can't remember any more.. there were lots of weird names though xDD

      i must say that really, it doesn't really matter how we say them as long as we can be understood.. right? ^^;;

      sorry for the long list.. anyone who's read this far gets a hug, a cookie and a bemused look from me.

    3. i'm italian and i tend to just read it as it was my own language ^^''
      so luts like loots and iplehouse like ipple but without a p (don't know how to explain this XD)
      edit-maybe more like eeplehouse
      lati as lah-tee
      for bobobie i tend to say bobobye

      actually in korean 'u' and 'oo' are read the same (i know cause my favourite korean singer surname is moon)

      unoa and migidoll i think are japanese, i pronouce them like japanese (wich isn't too far from italian)
      but i don't know how to explain it

      minifee - minifeh
      feeple - like people but starting with an f
      narae - nah-rah-eh
      crobi ... i will made up a japanese sound to explain this: kurobi
      (for me its easier to use japanese sound istead of english)
      yder - ee-deh-r (you probably don't know how we pronounce the r XD but that's hard to write)
      leeke - leh-eh-keh
      for HZ i just pronounce the letters in my language XD
      i think your supposed to read it as the full name but since i can't read character

    4. I just went to my first ever meet last weekend and discovered something interesting. Since I have only read and never heard pronounced ALL doll names, companies, etc, I found I was pronouncing names differently from some people.
      Like Luts Is it pronounced like it rhymes with "huts" or "Flutes".
      How about Lishe? Does it rhyme with "fish", "leash", or, after looking at the names of some other Luts dolls, is it pronounced like "Lie-she" or "Lee-she"?
      Is there a pronunciation guide somewhere*_*?

    5. Personally I pronounce Leeke as "leek" (Miku anyone?) but I have heard it pronounced as Leeke (lee-kay) etc.

    6. Well, the katakana version of Leeke is "rike" (lee-kay) from the Japanese Leeke site. LUTS, however, always uses roman characters, so it's harder to tell . . . although poking around on the Japanese LUTS site I found out that it's an acronym for Loyalty, Utility, Trust, Service. You learn something new every day ^_^.

    7. A woman in my region who has Korean says loooots is correct.

      Ann in CT

    8. Allright, here are mine. XD I had phonetics at university, but of course I can't get the special characters here... :S

      Luts- Loots, only with a shorter 'oo' sound. As in books.
      Iplehouse- Eeplehouse. Like nipple without N. ^^
      Soom- Like suum
      Cian- see-an
      Lishe- Lee-she
      Bobobie- bo-bo-bee
      Crobidoll- croh-bi (short vowel pronunciation)-doll
      Yder- Aider, with a deep A.
      Unoa- YUU-no-a (short a in the end)
      Migidoll- Mi (short vowel)-dji-doll
      Homme- omme. As in french. More like a really deep O. Ooohmm.
      Ducan- Duy-CAHN. I would also pronounce this as in French, with a y in the u-sound
      Leekeworld- lee-kee-world. Leaky world? Ha.
      Latidoll- lah-tee-doll
      Feeple- fee-pel. As people.
      Petsha- Pet (e as in nEver) - shah
      Twingkey- twing-kee
      Puki- poo-kih (eeww. that sounds nasty.)
      Bambicrony-Like bambi and crony put together (DUH XD) BAM-be-CRO-ny
      Soah- Sou-a
      Sooah- Suu-a
      Beryl - BE-ryhl (pronounced just like in English)
      Volks - Folks (German)
      Narin- naa-rihn
      Narae- na-ra-eh

    9. How ironic that I find this after my friend and I were having a discussion over Bobobie! Well here goes! :)

      Luts-Loots ie:pirate loots :P
      Iplehouse- Eyeplehouse
      Soom-Suum ie: Uber? It's pronounced with a long 'oo'
      Lishe-Leash :B
      Bobobie-Bo-Bobbie :P
      Crobidoll- Crow-be :B
      Leekeworld- Leak-world
      Feeple- people with an F :B
      Puki-poo-key
      Beryl- I always think of Queen Beryl from Sailor Moon...so that's how I say it :B
      Volks- like Volkswagon :)
      Narae-Na-ray

    10. Dang, this thread has opened my eyes... ears, on how to pronounce most companies. I got at least 95% of them wrong apparently XD

    11. Oooh... Very useful!!! Thank you!! =)

    12. I recently went to my first doll meet and noticed some differences in the way things are pronounced between the people there

      i pronounce Luts, as its been said above to ryme with huts.
      the Fee in so many of the fairyland dolls i pronounce like the fee's you give to paypal
      I pronounce Lishe to rhyme with fishy
      soom rymes with zoom
      i once pronounced migidoll las Miji-doll but have changed to Mi-GEE-doll (with a g as in geezer)
      my Ninodoll mini anna i pronounce (AH-nah) because i have several friends who pronounce it that way
      when dealing with soah and sooah i tend to pronounce them relatively the same, drawing out the o in sooah longer. but it really sounds the same.

    13. I say "luts" like nuts, buts, ruts, etc. XD and I say iplehouse like ... idk... like it would rhyme with cripple house I guess XD Sorry that sounds so bad!!! D:

    14. I used to question whether or not I was pronouncing the company names and different molds right. But after I took a semester in elementary Korean, I can look up the Korean names on the Korean websites and say them right. I really enjoyed that class and I'm glad it's helping me continue to learn in this hobby. :]

    15. When I was at the DragonCon panel, someone was talking to me about their doll and I totally heard her pronounce Iplehouse as "Apple-house"!

      Also, I can't seem to pronounce Bobobie right. I keep leaving off the last "b" because it just sounds so weird to me, and I end up wanting to call it "Bobobo" or "Boobah" or something stupid like that. :sweat

    16. The correct way to pronounce yder is ee-dur

      i pronounce Luts as loots

      here are the list of the dolls i have/waiting and how i pronounce their name

      Lati Yellow Byurl - just....byurl.....bee-url but say it fast! mean "star" in Korean
      Lati Yellow Lumi - Loo-mee
      DIM Happy Jullis - Joo-lis
      Littlefee Bisou - Bee-soul (i think im wrong on this one haha)
      Littlfee Ante - An-teh (i will probably wrong for this one too xD)
      CH Ange Ai Uri - Yoo-ri
      CH Ange Ai Gaby - Ga-bee

      lol

    17. I has one. . . How would you say Ys?
      I say it like "eyes", for no reason whatsoever. Lol.
      My friend was like, I say it "Y-S" as in, just saying the letters.
      Which is obviously wrong, as it is a name. XD

      So would it be like saying it with an 'e' or a 'u', or what? o Ao

    18. LOL I've had people correct me from time to time as well. Although I really have no idea how to say what.

      Soom-doom-soom
      Luts-nuts-luts
      iplehouse-eye-pple(as in apple) iplehouse
      Yder-yayder-yder XD
      Leekeworld-leek world-leekeworld
      sabik-sah bick-sabik
      meh~ I think of any others right now. @o@;

    19. Your explanations are hilarious.:lol: But exactly how I pronounce them. Also:
      Yder = EE-der, sometimes YEE-der
      Lishe = leash
      Ys = EE-s
      Feeple = people, with an f
      Crobidoll = CROW-bee doll
      Sabik = Sah-BEEK
      Narae = Nah-RAH-ay
      Ducan = Doo-KAN
      That's just my way of saying 'em...I'm sure I've got mistakes. :lol:
      Hmm...what else....:)
